American Specialty Health is truly a wonderful company to work for, if you are looking for a mission-driven company. The company is honest and really puts customers first. Unlike many other companies I've worked for, where profit is the first and foremost, this company values patients and keeping healthcare costs low for everyone. As a specialty health company, we encourage patients to seek alternative treatment methods as opposed to sometimes useless pharmaceutical solutions that are pushed out just for profit (and not necessarily the longterm solution).

Also, the company has a fitness line of business that attracts people of all age groups to exercise for their physical, mental, and emotional health.

If you're looking for a job that will really make a difference to protect the lives of others, this company is a gem.

Salary-wise, the management team has been really great at adjusting salary and keeping salary competitive to market salaries. The teams at ASH are wonderful, I can't speak highly enough about the culture. I think it's because everyone shares the same passion for healthcare so it's easy to get along with people of similar minds.

Career growth - the career paths are clearly laid out for you from the beginning. There are different paths you can grow toward, no matter what position you take. 

Remote work - a lot of positions at the company are remote, and they provide all the equipment you will need. This is great for those who want to avoid commuting and save on some gas!

Overall, the company is wonderful to work for, leadership team is responsive, and they do care about your overall wellness as an employee and a person. If you want to work in healthcare, this is a great company for you!

The company is great in a sense that they have these extra incentives to keep people's morale up such as the pedometer and getting money after taking several steps and encourages employees to live a healthier lifestyle. However, when it comes to work itself, it was always busy, which I loved, but it also meant your bosses will throw more on your plate without giving you a raise. 

Micromanagement at its best, most of the managers love to hover over you as if you're a child and is incapable of doing your job, even if you've been there for 13 years. You'll be treated like a child from management as well as HR and even payroll. I've worked over 25 years in the corporate world and this place is the only place that makes you clock in and out like a monkey. If you are a few minutes late, you have to stay that extra few minutes, otherwise they won't pay you for the full 8 hours. 

There is no overtime, yet we have these useless meetings to take us away from our work. The company's quarterly meeting is a joke and is a waste of half of your day. They are not upfront with you with the earnings and everything is very broad. The company's picnic and christmas parties are very stingy, so even the extra perks aren't so great. 

Your pay raises never surpasses more than a $1, regardless of how hard you work. The pay is low to begin with, you can work at another company, doing the same thing and get paid 1/3 more. 

You will be worked to the bone here, which is great, your day goes by faster. But it also means you're working hard for low pay, decent benefits, bad management, and no advances in your career or pay. There is no growth potential at this company whatsoever. 

The employees are great, they all are busy, hardworkers, but it's because they can all relate to what you're feeling because you work together.

Initially working with ASH was fun & rewarding. There were a lot of designers that started working with ASH when I started, so friendships were easy to form, and management over the two design teams were thriving. The company does a lot of fun events, such as 5K runs, and themed health fairs. I enjoyed the balance of work, and loved that they have a gym onsite, as well as promote health with discounted medical/dental with fit-bit exercise. The best part of the job was my coworkers and getting to be around some pretty talented individuals. The hardest part was the unrealistic timelines that were given, and the lack of communication in delivering expectations. However, the last 8 months I worked there, we lost a great manager to another company, there was a leadership/peer conflict that ended up leaving the company, and multiple designers/managers left due to unfair pay, zero management support, and lack of integrity/transparency from the higher ups. Overall I still believe in the vision of the overall company, but I would not recommend anyone to work for the department I worked in. The reflection of how a team is doing good or bad is ALWAYS a direct reflection of leadership stemming from the top down. The micromanaging, manipulation, and lack of integrity that created a constant hostile work environment, is something that sadly even the HR department hasn't been able to figure out resolve. I soon learned that they didn't see my value as a partaker within the team, and ultimately found myself switching to another company that extended an offer immediately after my interview. I wish them the best and hopefully this review sheds light to finding resolve to the issues that have been happening, as well as giving an honest review of what a candidate to this department can expect.

Typically, there are so many different scenarios it is really difficult to become an expert service agent. Furthermore, the information changes rapidly however, communication of these changes are lacking. Training used to be long enough to allow one time to get the hang of job however, due to the shorter training, many of the agents are placed on the floor ill-equipped for the job. There is a lot of confusion because the influx of responsibilities placed on the supervisors doesn't allow them time to meet w/ coach or develop agents. Often times if an agent doesn't understand something, they will spread this missed information to the next agent. This often times complicates issues and can cause issues to compound. There is often gaps in communication between departments which leads to misunderstandings; call center agents often have a hard time working with the claims agents because they understand things differently. There are process which are redundant and do not make since. Things which should be handled by one department are transferred to another department in error sometimes due to lack of understanding, ignorance, laziness, or just because. Lastly, for the amount of knowledge needed to perform the job, the distance most agents travel to get to work, the compensation is poor.

I started the job with no idea what I would be doing. I asked certain questions to get a better understanding during my interview and I still had no idea what I would be actually doing until 2weeks into the job. There is a non stop inbound (sometimes outbound) calls from doctors and patients all over America asking about insurances policies and claims. Breaks are scheduled for you and can be pushed back for business needs so it’s not ideal for someone who might need to run an errand during lunch. Shifts are not as flexible as they make it seem. People who have been there the longest get the first pick of shifts and if you are new you are left to chose from whatever shifts no one wanted. It is Monday-Friday but there are sometimes when mandatory overtime will come up on the weekends and they follow the same system as the shifts to see who will have to work the overtime. They are also open on holidays and you HAVE to work 1 or 2 each quarter. And once again people there the longest can choose to be off on Christmas and work Labor Day while a new person will be the one stuck working Christmas. Also you have to start working before you clock in. You have to login to the computer set up your programs and check/respond to emails before clocking in because the second you clock in you have to be available on the phone. Because of the high volume of calls there is no time to set up your computer before you clock in. It is not a work life balance job, it is a do everything for us and we don’t care about your needs at all type of job. 

This is not a company that you will want to work for, period. Even the tenure employees complain about the low paying salaries and how management couldn't care less about who stays and who goes. 

The workload has substantially decreased this year and there's not opportunity for overtime. You will NOT move up in this company at any reasonable rate of time. What you can expect is a low paying salary while being expected to continue to perform at a level higher than said pay grade. 

The only benefit to working for this company are the holidays that they grant you. You get holidays like President's day and Memorial day. 

Management is not personable. Don't expect to speak to your supervisors one on one as EVERYTHING is communicated through email. Don't expect any friendly banter with coworkers as this will not happen either. 

Be prepared when it comes to parking at this location. Your car will get hit and the parking lot and the lack of cameras and security will leave you with more questions than answers. 

The unfortunate part of this company is that they have potential to be much more than the junk they are putting forth now. They have the ability to pay their employees well and could make everyone feel vital. Instead you're left feeling like you're going no where, stuck inside of a company who just never quite caught on to how to successfully care for their employees. What a shame.

When I applied for this job, I applied for a full time position. They sent me an offer for a full time position, and then after I accepted, they contacted me to let me know that they made a mistake and that they only had seasonal positions available. "It's the exact same, but without benefits." I said okay, since being paid was better than not being paid. 

Two weeks out of training, they pulled the entire seasonal team off the queues and into a call to let us know that all of our positions were being terminated, effective in three days. We had the opportunity to transition to a different seasonal position in the company, which would have two weeks of training, but there was no guarantee that we'd be kept in that role either. We were also told that we weren't allowed to apply for full-time positions until January, and could not guarantee that folks who had since earned a pay raise would keep or lose that raise. 

They gave us 5 hours to make this decision. 

The whole meeting, HR management was smiling and presenting this like it was a minor inconvenience at worst and an exciting opportunity at best. It was extremely disrespectful. 

ASH does not care for their employees—especially seasonal workers. They went above and beyond to make that clear. If you can hold on and find a job elsewhere, it's worth waiting to find someone who will actually keep you employed. 

I started working for ASH before COVID-19 and the interview process was with HR and Associate Manager within department I was applying for. Background check took two weeks after interview. After COVID-19 started 90+% of employees moved to work from home and company has decided most employees will continue to be work from home, with only 4 or 5% returning to office to make their jobs easier. I started with an entry-level job in California and remained at minimum wage for almost 6 years, with merit raises of 50 cents annually, but with minimum wage going up and surpassing the merit raise amount, making it so I was never more than minimum wage for very long, despite the amount of responsibility increase and cross-training over the years. Depending on the standards of the job you're working production totals/standards can be quite high and difficult to consistently maintain sometimes, leading to high pressure to meet standards. However team members and supervisors are nice, willing to help you when you need them, and always got your back. The culture of the workplace in office and working at home is great, however if you want to earn more than minimum wage you'll need to look for work elsewhere.

Although the job seemed ok in the beginning a lot of the supervisors and team leads did not know a lot of answers to important questions. My role was a customer service rep. For fitness benefits for members through their health plan.Answered inbound calls.Very slow call center, not many permanent employees and that says a lot.They only hire a lot of people up until the new year when members renew their health insurance but it gets slow immediately after that and they start letting people go. What I didn't like is that when they let us go we were not told until the next day but our badges we deactivated before exiting the premises.We had to locate a security guard to let us out the gate since our badges didn't work. I felt this was very unprofessional and I would never recommend this job to anyone if your looking for security within a job. If something quick for money this job works for a little bit and is easy if you pay attention in the training.

A typical day at this job consists of clocking in, going on queue & waiting for a customer to call in for assistance. The calls are automatic so you don’t get time to answer it just comes in. Just hold your breath that the other person on the line isn’t an irate customer because you can’t disconnect the call… they pay you a measly $15/hr to be the public’s punching bag. Let’s not forget the calls are recorded and graded & QA nitpicks about the smallest stuff. They also will post job openings in other departments and if you apply they find stupid ways to keep you in the department you’re currently in. They only promote people that brown nose management. Not to mention your supervisor will never take a call or go on queue and the only time your supervisor contacts you is to go over your metrics or a call. In my training class there were at least 20 people, when we got out of training only about 5 or 6 people made it on the phones. Stay as far away as you can from this company. They do not value their employees. The least they could do is offer decent health insurance to cover the intense therapy you’ll need after dealing with their abusive customers.
