The only reason I am still with the company is because I love my clients and I actually understand that they need the help. I have been there for almost 2 years and it is the worst company I have ever worked for. When I got hired it sounded like a really good job and that they would be understanding that I'm a single mom and have health issues myself. Since I got hired upper management and office personnel go through constant turnover. Nobody communicates with each other therefore the employee will get numerous calls and unidentifiable texts asking the same questions that you have already answered. If you are sick all they care about is if you can make up your clients. There is no difference whether you put 200% or do absolutely nothing for your client. There is no reward/incentive, there is no recognition and they'll take anybody off the streets to go into the elderly's home which disgusts me. I myself have been working with the elderly since I was 13 and I am now 42
 I will say I am one of those that puts in my 200% and the majority of my clients tell me I better not leave haha and have even sent the office letters of appreciation.. of course with all that I am treated with no appreciation whatsoever and have been denied a review or a raise. I am constantly told if I want a raise then I need to become a certified PCA. That is not what i was told while hired not what I got hired for nor is what I wanted to get hired for. They offer a merit program every two weeks to earn an extra dollar to your hourly pay. Since I began they add things that makes it next to Impossible to meet the criteria to receive the Merit.  Also you can only accrue 40 hours a year for PTO and no holiday pay . And when it comes time for taxes for the first time in my entire life I had to owe! Because somehow they get away with hardly taking anything out for federal taxes.. I am claiming the same I have claimed for years upon years! I currently am battling pneumonia and don't have enough hours to cover being out .. so that's great . When you get hired as a homemaker they say light house keeping !.. that is a joke it is not light house keeping and I have informed the office multiple times of safety hazards for myself and  the client that are completely overlooked and ignored . They do not pay enough at all . I could do private housekeeping off the books for $35 to $50 an hour yet I am stuck at 18 an hour for more work than I would do as a personal housekeeper . I am definitely on the hunt for another job but again I love my clients so I'm torn. If after my 2-year anniversary of being with Guardian Angels there is no raise in sight I have no choice but to leave as I am not even close to making ends meet.

Please consider before applying. The owner of the company is dangerous and he does not follow legal structures or policies within the company. 

I was put under huge liabilities and was brushed off when I attempted to bring it to his attention.

They would legit hire any aide that walked in the door and the ‘orientation’ was literally one hour. 

Also, the aides weren’t being compensated if they went over a shift (to really help a client) for a state contract client.

They would also turn a blind eye if the aide who was scheduled sent someone who wasn’t even employed with the company. 

You are forced to take on call on the weekend and not even compensated  extra and if you get a call out or an aide didn’t show up  (which happened all the time due to the company hiring constantly and not being able to manage the staff properly) then you would be required to go assist the client. 

The focus is financial gain for the owner over the better good of the clients and the staff.

-Typical day at work is to repeat what you did the day before. I have learned the importance of your health so that you are never in need these types of services. Management (upper) is the reason people leave.  HR is not available for staff (per diem). So management makes the decisions.  This results in people leaving. The culture is one where policies are applied inconsistently, Falling in line matters more than doing what's right, Whistleblowers are punished, People agree in public but complain in private, Mistakes from management are hidden, not fixed, Feedback is discouraged, Rules change but not all can be put in writing, Promotions aren't based on performance, Bad behavior is ignored. This is what makes the job difficult. What was enjoyable about the job was being allowed to actually help those you could and be that company that cares instead of just saying you are. 

I believe most of guardian’s clients live off government assistance. If you’re interested in seeing how the elderly or disabled live without any retirement savings, this job is for you. It’s a valuable service for sure, but it takes a certain temperament and personality to be able to ‘entertain’ this type of clientele. The day shift when there is actual tasks to do seems to be much better, but not worth the pay at all. I won’t go as far to say Guardian exploits their workers…because ultimately it is valuable service..but staff deserves a much better pay rate for what they are asked to do, especially when you consider how much driving you have to do in your own vehicle to pick up full time hours. Just not worth it. 

I knew I was done after a month after I walked in on an obese man giggling while getting his diaper changed. Not for me. 

The agency I work for is ok. Some of the people in the office are great. I am not sure who exactly is my manager. There seems to be alot of miscommunication. However over all I have had a very pleasant experience working with the coordinator and the original schedular. I have had alot of issues with in the past 3 months with scheduling I'm not sure what the new issue has been. I'm hoping it will be resolved soon. 

I did struggle with balancing wanting more hours with not being so flexible that I was always asking my husband about possible shifts. Probably best to determine desired availability and stick to it, because the notifications/texts for EVERY open shift did get to be a bit much and I always wanted to help out. But enjoyed the clients and schedulers/office staff were great to work with. When a certain client became TOO much, they took me off the schedule, no problem. Great mix of clients, learned a lot here. Opportunities for further training, too, both annual basic required ones and chances to add certifications. Growing business and always needed more help. Lots of low paying shifts, but they were creatively trying to find ways for people who wanted to do overtime to do as much as they wanted. Overall a great experience and enjoyed my time there!

Office personnel women who supervise via phone are there to help settle issues or concerns that come up both helpful to caregiver and clients as well

When you arrive on a job and for some reason you don't feel comfortable because the individual is difficult it can b trying indeed

Professional and friendly whenever I go to the office I am always made to feel appreciated

I worked with alzheimer patients and depending on what stage of the disease the person is at or what capacity there capable eg. Sometimes it's just watching TV or a quick shower to refresh

The atmosphere m, the mission. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lack of benefits- competitive health insurance. What’s offered is not realistic, so then you buy off connector. Either way your not adequately covered in a health care crisis. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The people are wonderful. They have a great awareness of the need in the community, the drive to staff for the need. The lack of employable and reliable workers with clean CORI checks, transportation often causes stresses on the day to day office staff. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long. 8-5 plus backup oncall coverage if you are salaried without compensation for your time.

No benefits. They give  Sick time because they legally have to. No security. Jobs that become available are gone before you accept Too many cooks in kitchen!! If you accept job you will be told already got someone in less than 5 minutes. The company needs to offer health insurance not the insurance they say they offer that doesn’t cover hospitalization. That’s not insurance. Paid vacation. Be great full for the employees that give 110%. We make their company.  Never hear from them unless problem with client or client dies. Really. Or they need you for emergency coverage. I love my clients and do what I can for them only because I care. Don’t think they do anymore.

Very unprofessional company!!! Would rate zero if that was an option! Their vision statement is joke! They talk about being family oriented but could care less about their cg’s or their family. Their compassion for clients is questionable too. Tried to call in sick one day, and was told I could go to work sick because the client was a hospice client and was dying anyway!
They pulled me from a client with state insurance to cover private pay clients on numerous occasions. This company puts money above the needs of their clients and cg’s.
Office staff is very cliquey and if you don’t take on clients or switch clients whenever they want, they will retaliate by either not offering clients at all, or taking away your hours and giving them to someone else.
