I worked in client services for over two years.
My direct manager was amazing, she was personable and very accommodating but also professional and direct.  she made sure that the department was running smoothly and that everyone was pulling their weight.  
The company itself took on some major clients which doubled our workload, things got very stressfull for a long time and it felt like they were just adding to our workload without adding to our benefits or pay.  It felt like a struggle to try and balance the new workflows and help our clients as efficiently as possible.  I applied for two different positions to try and advance my carrer there, the first was possibly out of my skill level and i understood that however instead of telling me the generic "we went with another candidate who fit the bill a little better" they made me feel like I had a chance and told me i would get an interview and then forgot about me.  the second attempt I was actually approached by a manager about the position so I applied and again was told i would get an interview and then never heard anything else.  I felt very let down by this and it really turned me off to the company.  I ultimately left mainly because my plan was to relocate to another city.  
Maybe things have changed now, its been a few years since i left. Like any job it does have its downside but the company has pretty good benefits and maybe now there are more advancement opportunities.

Training when I was there was an overview of the company, the basic functionality of its systems and minimal process and procedure instruction. We were told to "reach out to someone on the team if you're on a call and need help." Those individuals, while always kind and willing to help, were themselves handling client calls. So while we waited for assistance, our callers were too often placed on an extended hold.

The very few written resources then available were sometimes incomplete, while others had been written for now obsolete processes and systems, but never corrected to provide updated instructions.

In my experience, new people came on board really excited about their new opportunity and intending to stay for the long term. But frequently they quit within an extraordinarily short time.

There was a call center manager change awhile ago, but turnover appears to remain high based upon reviews posted since that time.  


The most immediate, glaring problem is the scheduling. Within the same week I'd work 17 hours in a day then 4. There were things the lab could have done to remedy this, but never seemed to try. More per diems could have helped, diversifying clients, etc. 

Theres also an incredible amount of management turnover, and expect to be blamed for problems they cause due to the backstabbing culture here. Also, some toxic coworkers that have been here forever and refuse to train you.

There is almost zero upward mobility. And due to the bizarre scheduling you will never be able to use your tuition benefits. In fact, Ive never heard of anyone successfully taking classes here while working due to this. Most had to quit to advance.

Also, certain departments are pushing heavy automation systems which management admitted are intended to replace staff. I wouldnt join the company now for this reason alone.

I work for Ascend Clinical formerly known as Satellite Laboratories Services for almost 7 years. A typical day at work was to check all the emails to find out what what going on for the day. I learned a numerous amount about laboratory testing, and dialysis.

I had great managers who were also great at at helping me advance in my career. We were a strong department and all the co-workers work together to get the priorities completed. The hardest part of my job is when we received over 800 tubes during busy week, and the labels were not labeled corrected.

The most enjoyable part of the job was when we has Dialysis Week once a year. It was very festive, when had games, won many prizes, such as ipod's, computers, dishwhere, dvd, luggage. We were treated with much respect.

It gets very busy during first week but it's workable. Good company to work for. Great co-workers. My only complain/concern about Ascend is that the don't appreciate their on-call/per diem employees more than they should since they are the ones finishing the work during busy week. It was very disappointing when they announced via email that the they would be giving out bonuses during the Holidays only to discover that we (on-calls/per diem) were not included. It seems like every time they have an employee appreciation, we (the on-calls/per diem) are forgotten. We work just as hard if not harder than the regular employees. Hopefully it changes.

A typical day includes maintaining the instruments, running quality controls and samples, verifying results, checking pending lists, and cleaning work areas.
Teamwork is essential to the company.  Everybody learns to share responsibilities and help one another to ensure efficient operation of the laboratory.
The managers delegate tasks in their respective departments and help out as needed.
Personally, the hardest part of the job involves troubleshooting the instruments; the most enjoyable part is being recognized for working well with others.

Training consisted of reading and watching some videos nothing showed what you are taught you about your job and what to expect! Training just had you watch other people and pick up job knowledge that way. Management berated and belittled you if you didn’t grasp the job ASAP! Management expected you to learn by reaching out to other coworkers while they were working which made no sense! The training did not cover the many different scenarios of calls you would get so learning was on the the fly it was a very unpleasant place I to  be employed at! 

Ascend was very good to their employees and showed appreciation on a company-wide level as opposed to individuals.
In Colorado, the office always had amazing holiday parties and lots of fun together. The workload volume was manageable and the stress was not too bad when doing AR.
It truly was a good place to work.

The company is challenging, but in a good way. There is always something happening - adding large clients, updating laboratory and office space.  Since adding a particularly large client, the hours can get long.  Upper management seems reluctant to add more staff, which can be hard during busy weeks.  However, it also means there is plenty of opportunity for personal career growth.  Benefits are great!

Management is out of touch and doesn’t care for the well being of their employees. It doesn’t matter how hard you work … for them you’re replaceable. Quality of service is going down the drain. They hired people that doesn’t have a clue of what they are doing. They’re just there for paycheck. No incentive  for hard work. They hire manager that doesn’t know what  she’s doing. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to work here. If you love your life, runaway from this company!
