Most every single patient you get will be a lovely person needing basic help, they wont be too demanding, theyll merely ask that youre on time and keep their space clean. The work itself, though, is hard on your body. Add on top of that the fact that your managers will often "forget" to call your patients if you call out sick or are taking time off, so theyre angry when you get back, or when you get a new patient, they will "forget" to call the patient to tell them to be home when you arrive, or theyll "forget" to call your patient to let them know youre running late, despite demanding that you call if youll be so much as 10 minutes late. The pay is also terrible, they advertise that they pay above min wage, which is true, but by 50 cents. For a while, you're under the illusion that they value you as a worker, until you start having any issues, like a patient not being home, and then you have to wait forever for a call back. Some management is better than others, but overall, they are completely unreliable. Another issue is if you have a single symptom of covid, your schedule is taken away for 2 weeks, you have to fill out return to work forms, and if you didnt have a strong bond with your patients, you will need to build an entirely new schedule, even if you have a documented chronic illness.

My Previous Homecare Company  was acquired by Associated Homecare/Housework's. They painted a picture of caring for their staff, great benefits and little change, instead I found lack of communication, you cannot reach a real person for assistance. When you ask for help they give you an email where no  one ever responds. The management staff sits and watches the phones ring while the scheduling team drowns, but will micromanage every task they try to complete. They did not train the office staff for the acquisition. They instead did Microsoft Teams trainings which was not beneficial for many staff members, and very difficult to follow along with.  Many Caregivers did not get paid and where blamed by the payroll department for incorrect timecards due to issues with their scheduling system.  A benefit of the doubt was given but after weeks of no change, witnessing a mass amount of Competent Administrative staff and reliable caregivers quitting, it was time to find another path. 

I honestly do not know why they keep asking people to apply.  They have absolutely no hours to give!  I worked for them in the past and would work for them again if they had the hours.  It seems like a game with them - they give you  20 hours one week and when you get comfortable thinking you will have 20 hours for the coming weeks, they employ 2 or 3 more people and divide the 20 hours among 3 people.  Outrageous!  So eventually, all 3 people quit because of lack of hours.  They just don't get it.  They have had some of the brightest, caring, knowledgeable, honest people worked for them.  They just cannot keep them!  So their clients are the ones who suffer in the end because they have to put up with getting no service or having a different caregiver each week.  I think their management need to be sent on a training course.

I should have known what the company was like when I went to the interview. I walked in for my interview about 15 minutes early  and they were scolding some young man who had apparently rescheduled his interview saying “we meant to call you and tell you we were no longer interested in having you at the company anymore cause you rescheduled and our company is all about reliability” which is pretty ironic of them. Anyway they lied to me about the pay saying it was $14 or more than afterward telling me it was $13, I’m a college student so when I couldn’t work certain shifts they wanted me to they scolded me, and shifts they did schedule me for were never guaranteed. Their are so many more respectful and reliable company’s out there with better pay. Glad I left I love where I am now.

They dont care if you dont have hours.
It can be months and they do not call you to give you hours so I dont know why they keep hiring.
They only have hours for cleaning home and companion (using your car like a taxi)
I get tired calling the agency and not one respond. even when a client fell.
They are irresponsible they don’t return the calls either.
They’re blending your hours you dont get overtime
Years pass and Do not increase your salary
If any client or family member reading this and you have certain hours and  If this agency does not send you the  employee please report to elderly services, because elderly service always pay them for the hours you suppose to have.

when you want to clarify something in payroll she is always on the defensive.

I started out as a Companion going to several different types of clients doing errands doctor visits. I ended up at a Group home cooking  and doing activities with 15 mentally challenged senior citizens, that I absolutely loved. I worked all the holidays only because I wanted too but I did get time and a half. I would still be there but they lost that contract due to government funding and other hogwash. But I truly loved that job and all the clients and the staff that worked at that particular home.

Overall, it’s an ok job on the scale of entry level jobs but definitely not a career. The communication is definitely lacking and most of the time you’re left blind sided. You have to wait till last minute to take time off for say a doctors appointment because it will be scheduled over no matter who you tell. Management is spotty, had schedulers switched on me without even being notified. On a long day I don’t even have time to stop home at all never mind have lunch. Even though there are quite a few downsides, I cannot lie that the flexibility is unbeatable. You have full control over your schedule as long as you’re on top of keeping track of it.

Although I loved this job and helping care for the elderly and those that were not capable of caring for themselves, this job never provided enough hours. They expect you to drive miles away from client to client and do not compensate enough for the gas milage you put on your car. My car took a beating from driving the long distances they had me driving. If they had employees take clients in a particular town instead of driving from one town to another it would be a much more reasonable job. They pay for training hours and also after working for the company for a while they give you opportunity to gain other certifications such as PCA and HHA.

Great experience in stepping into this field, because it allowed me to develop communication skills, patience, and build compassion. I have worked with a number of people with different ethnic, cultural and national background. I don't have any co workers, so I have gained independence. The only real downfall is having to spend just a few hours with one client, and then having to drive over to another client, and the next - all in one day, which can be tiring.

It's not always easy for my clients to open their homes to complete strangers. As a Home Health Aide, I understand my duty is to reassure the client that I'm reliable, trustworthy and they don't have to worry. I assist a lot of clients because I work with a Home care agency. A ordinary day at work, would be bathing, preparing meals, providing companionship and maintaining a safe environment for my client(s).
