I worked at Already Autism Health for 5+ years, and I genuinely loved the job at first. The mission to support kids with autism felt meaningful, the teams were collaborative, and I felt valued for the work I did with clients. Pay was decent for the field, benefits were okay, and there was a real sense of purpose.

That all changed dramatically over the past year or so. There have been constant turnovers in senior management—new leaders coming in and out, which created a lot of instability and inconsistent direction. Work demands skyrocketed: higher caseloads, more billable hours expectations, last-minute scheduling changes, and pressure to cover gaps without any real support. No raises, no added benefits, no additional compensation to match the increased workload. It felt like we were being squeezed harder while the company grew through acquisitions and investments.

The worst part was how they handled staffing reductions. Many positions (including mine) were effectively dissolved or restructured in ways that forced people out. Instead of straightforward layoffs that might qualify for unemployment, there was pressure to "resign" voluntarily to avoid legal or claim issues for the company. It came across as a deliberate strategy to sidestep responsibilities, and it left a lot of dedicated employees (myself included) in a tough spot—losing stable employment without the protections we expected.

What was once an enjoyable, mission-driven workplace has become stressful, unpredictable, and unenjoyable. If you're considering working here, be aware that things can change quickly, and the stability isn't what it used to be. I miss the old version of the company, but I wouldn't recommend it in its current state.

A typical day involved providing direct ABA therapy while constantly adapting to schedule changes, coverage demands, and unclear expectations. Documentation requirements were significant, yet policies around note pay, full-time classification, and benefits were inconsistently communicated. I learned the importance of documenting everything, understanding employment protections, and advocating for clarity in writing. Management often conveyed rules verbally that were not reflected in written policy, and there was ongoing confusion around full-time versus part-time status and the obligations tied to each. Access to HR was routed through management, which made resolving payroll and classification questions unnecessarily difficult.

The workplace culture was marked by high turnover and low morale, with many employees expressing similar concerns about scheduling, pay practices, and inconsistent communication. While coworkers were supportive and the client-facing work was meaningful, the operational instability created ongoing stress. The hardest part of the job was navigating unclear policies and shifting expectations while trying to maintain professionalism and deliver quality care. The most enjoyable part was working directly with clients and seeing their progress. Ultimately, while the clinical work was rewarding, the administrative structure made the position unsustainable long-term.

Overall, the company lacks understanding of what certain jobs entail as well as what would be needed to complete tasks appropriately. Basic job equipment and programs were not provided for several weeks. Having adequate clinic supplies also appeared to be of minimal concern to management. The clinic did not have basic supplies such as toilet paper or cleaning products. Most concerning, though, were safety issues. The majority of time I was alone in the clinic and the only one present with the patients. Additionally, there were no security procedures in place in case of an emergency.  Ostensibly there was a clinic manager but she was never present. 

The biggest issue I had during my time at ABI was the management. I found management to be very difficult to get a hold of and/or work with. Interactions were often unnecessarily combative and/or difficult which made for outright hostile work environment. The most concerning thing of all though is that this company appears to have a poor understanding of best practices for working with kids with autism and seems to be most concerned with the potential revenue that can be made from this vulnerable population.  

I have been with ABI for a little over a year now and I have had an amazing experience. Of course there are some challenges that come with the role of a remote bcba, but that is not a company specific issue. They also have a very generous travel reimbursement and that helps so much with building rapport with RBTS and clients. If you are looking for a role that allows you to have work life balance this is a great place. The billable expectation is very reasonable and there’s always opportunities to make sure you are able to meet or exceed that expectation. Upper management is supportive and I have never felt micromanaged. I could not be happier working for ABI! However if I had to identify one downside it’s the benefits for full time employees. They are okay, but they also could be so much better. The health insurance policies are expensive for what you get and there’s definitely room for improvement. that said, work life balance and competitive salary and company culture make it easy for me to overlook the mediocre benefits. 

I've been working as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) at Autism Behavioral Institute for nearly a year.    If you have worked as an RBT long, you find quickly that most of these organizations are the same, with some small differences. What I like about Autism Behavioral Institute is the flexibility and consistent pay. I also have benefits which aren't the greatest, but from being in the field over 5 years I've never had benefits offered before.  I feel valued because of my compensation and benefits, and somewhat from the relationship I have with my BCBA.

The engagement from my supervising BCBA is lacking sometimes. Not because she is busy or overwhelmed, but honestly because she just doesn't seem to get it at times. Again, I've had good and bad everywhere I've worked and the experience here is not that much different. 

I enjoy my clients, the organization is fair and my pay is good, but there are some things that could be better. 



I was part of a group that was recently laid off due to restructuring and downsizing. Clients were moved around from one BCBA to another frequently, especially from part-time to full-time BCBAs even if the part-time BCBA and client had a positive relationship. Most of the RBTs that I provided supervision to were wonderful. 
I had been told that the company was a positive place to work and they cared more about the quality of therapy services being provided then the quantity of billable hours being conducted. That changed though after the merging of companies and it quickly became apparent that the focus was on consistently billing as many hours as possible and if you didn’t hit the minimum required then you needed to find ways to make those hours up last minute or you were penalized. 

After being in the field of 17 years, one thing I highly value is support and communication and that's exactly what I receive at AAH. There is a lot of transparency, no surprises, good communication, and a lot of support. Getting started at a new company can be daunting but they set you up for success, give you  a reasonable caseload from the get-go, and the billable hour requirement is very reasonable. They respect your work/life boundaries and everyone is always open to collaboration. Growing changes are expected but overall the changes have been very good and reasonable. Some of them are not company-related but more to be in line with insurance requirements and to ensure treatment plan fidelity. You can make your own schedule and meet one on one with your supervisor weekly to ensure support. The RBTs are amazing and also communicative.  It's a good tight ship so far!

During my time with this company, I observed serious concerns impacting both client safety and staff well-being. The outdoor area, used as a playground, is unsafe—clients have encountered hazards such as glass, nails, and even a hypodermic needle in its pothole-filled surface. Leadership is ineffective, with limited communication on important matters and a lack of support that contributes to staff burnout. Resources for older clients are inadequate, and program updates are infrequent, which can hinder client progress and increase challenging behaviors. While starting pay is competitive and some RBTs and BCBAs are genuinely dedicated to their clients, the overall work environment is unprofessional, with management issues and poor workplace culture outweighing the benefits.

I enjoy my job at ABI as a BCBA.  ABI is one of the few good companies I've worked for in the field.  We are nationally accredited and we are expected to be client and quality focused.  I thought I knew all I could learn as a BCBA, but I was clueless about what really quality, collaborative care is and how to implement it as a BCBA.  We (BCBA's) are taught to be data driven, but most of the time we only look at the data related to our sessions and never look at data that drives our field, quality and how use that data to inform our decision making.  I have enjoyed the experience and learned so much.


Yes, auditing my charts and those of my RBT's is no fun.  But I primarily work remote and I am usually finished with the work by lunch Friday.  Honestly, it's the best work life balance I have ever had as a BCBA and I also have a fair salary that 's not based on hitting an unreachable target.

I give ABI several thumbs up for focusing on quality and work life balance.


During my time with AAH, I was a dedicated and consistent employee who genuinely cared about the clients I served. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by unethical behavior from certain BCBAs and their supervisors, who appeared more focused on exerting control than supporting clinical growth or collaboration. When I stood up for ethical concerns regarding client treatment and internal practices, I was met with resistance and ultimately had my employment rescinded under the claim of an "unfavorable work history."

What’s truly unfortunate is that the clients suffer the most when leadership prioritizes power dynamics over progress. There are much better clinics out there with leadership that values integrity, team input, and client outcomes. If you're looking for a place where ethics and collaboration matter, I recommend looking elsewhere.
