Avalon Memory Care

The Manager didn’t train me right from the beginning after all  when she said “ I can’t cook” after three months of working there. And the caregiver are lazy. At some point they was a time I was in the kitchen cooking and one of the caregiver kept asking me for small portions of help, for example she ask me to help her to remove a fork from a residence hands or the residence would try to hold her gloves from her hands but really the residence was only holding one of the finger of her glove how he wasn’t trying to let go but it easy to just pull off. And also one of the caregiver was telling me what to do. And the transportation was always a problem. If you don’t know how to drive or don’t have a ride, don’t work in Allen because they is no buses or train unless if you want to spend lots of money on Uber like I did. But yeah I’m sorry that “ I can’t cook” and maybe if I knew how to make the food right and soft I should’ve known from the beginning. PERIOD!! And don’t play with me I’m from New York who doesn’t play around. Because if I’m not doing something the right way just let me know and SHOW ME HOW YOU WANT ME TO COOK THE FOOD! So that’s why I quit and found another job.

Looks can be very deceiving. First starting at Avalon was great. Untill I had issues with management not turning in paperwork. From there everything went downhill. Management is so unorganized it's ridiculous. They hire people with no experience that can't run a marathon if you told them to run straight to the finish line. Second the employees who been there a few months run the show and have a say so in everything . The good people are gone and the ones who are messy are still there and they wonder why the turnover rate is extremely high. Since working there I've seen about 16 people quit. That says a lot about the company . Yet still the higher ups don't want to address the issue . The care they provide is very minimal . They do what they can just to get by and try to hide  the damage that is done . Everyone want to point fingers   but no one want to be held accountable.  If you want a little paycheck with no benefits ,PTO bonuses AND NO raises then go ahead. I wouldn't let my dog be watched here for a few minutes let alone a family member.

 The pay wasn't great but the experience was. The pay is $13/hr and benefits were vision/dental and healthcare. The environment was pretty good at first, but there is a culture of favoritism, unprofessionalism and bullying. 
My job mainly consisted of providing toileting, hygiene and meal assistance I cooked and prepared meals ensuring residents were fed. I also administered medication; which I did not receive additional compensation for. It was definitely a job that didn't require much critical thinking skills. A few times I did crisis intervention and safety planning but mostly from what I learned on my own. Training is not provided. You basically get in where you fit in and try to learn as much as you can along the way. They were a pretty small facility with minimal residents, but they were always understaffed. Overall, I'm grateful for the experience I gained Avalon Memory Care. 

Avalon is a great place to work, they give their staff the education needed to work with Alzheimer's and Dementia Residents. They have opportunities to get your Level 1 Med Aide license (if you're willing to put the work in). The staff to resident ratio is helpful so you aren't over worked and you are able to give more focused care to the residents. You do work 12 hours but you get more days off to spend time with your family or friends. The pay is based off experience and the over all staffs attitude and work ethic. It's a small community but with that you get to know the residents and their family which is always helpful. I've noticed the workers are like a small family themselves and care about the residents and doesn't steal their belongings or talk rudely to them and make sure they are comfortable living in their new community. 10/10

Avalon Memory Care has been by far the WORST job I’ve ever had. Too much hard work and little pay. I felt like I was there most of the time rather than being at home. The management does not care about their residents or their staff, I would go above and beyond for the residents and constantly tried to get management’s attention about the issues going on in the facility and nothing was ever done about it. Most of the time residents get very physical with us to the point where I no longer felt comfortable or safe and still the manager failed to take caregiver’s safety into consideration. Therefore, please DO NOT apply at Avalon it is not worth it! Avalon Memory Care needs to do better.

This company has failed to create a positive and healthy work environment. Not just at one location but multiple , their corporate teams gives no support to the locations. And the directors they put in place are all scared to hold individuals accountable for the elderly care provided or lack there of. It’s very sad that are elder generation has to be cared for  by selfish individuals because a company refuses to  filter their employee properly. You can still have a job after … fighting on property, sleeping with co workers  in empty residence rooms on property , sleeping on the job . I think state needs to be investigating these properties for proper care. Let’s not get started on the medication. 

They are racist, they have fired people based on skin color, how workers fit into their clothing, and based on how little they can pay someone to do the job you can and will be replaced...And let’s not mention how they have lied to the family of all the residents who have lived there to be included: residents leave premises and none knows where they are at and family never notified, or accident over medicating resident never notifying family at least dr. Knew about that the list goes on don’t refine d as a job resident  at all....if u don’t lie for them you get fired or they find away to make you quit....

Most of the time it will be only 2 people caring for 20 residents. The employees that have been there get to slack off while new employees do all the work and still get criticized for work undone. The manager there has favorites that she allows to do anything and they will find a way to fire you. The sign on bonus that they offer is a myth as well as the 30 day pay increase. The residents are the best part of the job , they’re so sweet and nice . But the employees and management make it hard to stay there. Everyone either quits or is fired , no one ever stays.

run away and run fast. Do not trust anyone, you will be stabbed in the back. all they care about is money. below average salary with an excuse every time to why the money is not their. but then turn around and buy a brand new porch. social distance recommended to all employees and told not to go to work,home,gas, and grocery store and then the administrator abandons all protocol by being the first customer to eat inside a restaurant , and than goes camping for a week,hmmm did she self quarantine before returning to work. think not. hypocrite.

If you feel like working 12 hour days and being the only one doing anything while the people that have been there longer do nothing then go ahead. 

Everyone leaves on a constant basis and either doesn’t come back or comes back in 2-3 hours. This job does not feel like a job whatsoever it more feels like slavework there is no guidance whatsoever and the manager will not help you whatsoever with anything and if you expect to get a pay raise GOOD LUCK it took me almost 2 years to even get a dollar raise so when they try and tell you you can make 13.50 a hour there it’s completely bull.
