As a former long-time support staff employee, I can say that I was typically happy with my job. It was much better when I started working there in many ways. There were not many people at all that were hard to get along with. My supervisor was helpful and caring - very down to earth. The biggest issue was that the higher position one held in the firm it was very much misunderstood what the support staff did in their role. It's easy to see when you've worked in a support staff role for many years, but the upper management and core decision-makers didn't seem to know how thinly stretched support staff was and how important their role was in the firm. On a corporate level, I felt I was viewed as a number, but on a personal level, I always felt that I was held in high regard and that the attorneys and supervisors were very appreciative. 

Burr & Forman overall has a modern facility and comfortable workplace atmosphere.  A typical day at work consisted of a variety of duties, from paralegal level work to administrative.  Management at the company was fair and approachable.   The workplace culture is casual professional.  The hardest part of my job was on the days when I was not busy working on actual files and having to do more typical administrative-type work, as I enjoy working most in a fast-paced environment which the Real Estate Department at the firm used to be.  The most enjoyable part of the job was when I would have the opportunity to dive in and work on a project from beginning to end keeping me busy and well-informed from beginning to end.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I was always treated fairly.  My hire was the result of an acquisition and they were more that kind.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The firm is a law firm and there is a certain pace with law firms that some may not be comfortable with.  I think Burr is one of the better law firms in this regard. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is a professional environment that intentionally focuses on taking care of its employees. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Law firms are consistent activity with periods of both high interaction with others and times of independent activity.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The office is really nice and in-building parking is less expensive than many other buildings.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There was insufficient training for the proprietary document management software. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Party culture. Lots of bickering between employees, especially after a liquid lunch.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It seemed like everything was just made to be too difficult because the Naahville office was a satellite office and not very connected to the Birmingham home office.

Routine calendar check , confirmation of daily appointments and meetings  / notify  individuals of any changes in a timely manner / open of mail / prioritize and handle  as required. Perform duties as requested by attorney(s); follow up and file as necessary.  Excellent management of firm, provided training as needed in new computer courses.  Stress in a law office should be expected and as a professional you adjust - co-workers always provided assistance as needed.  Enjoyed working with clients and made a lot of effort to see that they felt confident they would be taken care of as soon as possible.

I came to work at Burr & Forman after the acquisition of a Carolina's based firm. Culturally both firms were similar which made the transition easier. Even though the combined entity resulted in a much larger firm, the feel remained that of a small firm where people are kind, considerate and operate like family. One pleasant surprise was finding out that the Executive Leadership team were not only approachable and supportive, but interacted daily with the partners and staff.

I started as a temporary employee, and within a month, I became a regular, full-time employee.  Over the years, I have had many opportunities to sharpen my skills, acquire new ones, and advance in my career.  I have been treated fairly and with respect.  I work hard, am compensated well, and have excellent benefits that have been a blessing to my family and me.  I have great respect for this firm.  I have never seen them treat anyone unfairly in the years I have been here.  When I retire in a few years, I will miss the people here.  We are family.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It got me out of the house when I had been working from home. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I was by myself at the reception desk replacing someone who had been there for 20 years 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was very professional and friendly.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Came in early to grab mail, assisted another staff worker with her job while answering the phone.  Locked up to go to lunch and back for an afternoon of the same.

If you work hard and do your job well, you are rewarded and highly valued. Many people have worked here for well over ten years. This firm is quick to give feedback more so than other law firms that I have worked for. This always employees to quickly course correct when necessary and better understand when/how an employee's efforts are valued.  

The most enjoyable aspect of my job is working with peers dedicated to continual learning. There is an intellectual curiosity at Burr that is contagious. Effort and self-motivation are recognized and rewarded. Our people demonstrate a commitment to colleagues, clients, and communities.
