The work itself is not difficult and your coworkers are great however if you find yourself under the wrong underwriter you hate your time there. Watching some assistants play on their phones, go for walks, and take long lunches while you work through lunch and well past working hours to satisfy your underwriter is possibly your reality depending on who you get to work under. I often received phone calls from my boss to point out how inefficient I am and how I don't do enough work to justify my paycheck even after staying sometimes 3 and 4 hours past closing working. You will receive practically no training and expected to learn most things as you do them. Take good notes because asking to be taught something more than once results in heavy criticism and resistance from your underwriter. If you don't have prior experience, don't bother accepting the offer.

•	Rate business according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines within individual underwriting authority limits and ensure standards for timeliness are met. 
•	Consult with field representatives, insurance agents, or brokers and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies.
•	Develop ongoing relationships with agents, monitor profitability and quality of submissions, and keep agents up to date with underwriting and product changes.
•	Examine documents such as application forms, inspection reports, insurance maps and past claims to determine degree of risk from factors such as applicant financial standing, business operations, loss experience, and value and condition of property, inventory and equipment. Calculate standard rates and premium charges by using approved formulas and tables.

A typical day for most employees is relatively simple. The work is easy enough as long as you're willing to do some learning outside of what training teaches you. I learned quite a bit about commercial and homeowners insurance in my time there. My direct supervisor was great, but most of the management higher up was insufferable on a good day. The culture was very bipolar. There were a lot of toxic behaviors from management that made work unnecessarily stressful a lot of the time, but on a good day, it was great. The hardest part of the job was finding a way to stay sane with the repetitive work, but the best part was definitely the coworkers.

Working at Bass was a great place to learn about insurance. It is a fast paced environment with very little downtime. You are either answering phones or working on quotes. The pay is not the best for starting out, but at the time of working there, when you get promoted, you get access to commission. That is where the real money was at. Be warned, you will almost always be on the phone even after "Work hours". It is a work hard /play hard environment. 

Bass is a great entry level job, but look elsewhere when considering a career. Insane workload with low compensation. A lot of assistants are treated like slaves and are not recognized for their hard work. Software/systems are constantly crashing. Underwriters are given too much range and some neglect their responsibilities of instructing and answering questions. There is very little to no training. 

My advice, STEER CLEAR...

Working at bass was not the best experience with being in the loss control department you are given a heavy workload for average pay and the management was lackluster. The management well in that department was very unprofessional and trained little to nothing. Avoid bass well at least the loss control department the job in itself wasnt difficult but certain things were tedious to do with little to no training.

Most days at this job I counted down the minutes to when the day was over at 5 o’clock. Managers and underwriters are good people but not very motivating. They won’t tell you how to do something and then get mad when you screw it up. Training is very poor, and my underwriter would usually take the agent’s side on an issue instead of the assistant, even if they were in the wrong. You can do much better somewhere else.

That is the one factor that will keep employees at high productivity: Positive atmosphere

Almost anyday was routine but never boring. The workload was distributed evenly. The management stay involved at the proper degree. Communication was done at all levels and through all departments. And the strange part is that the company isn't small!

Management is easy to talk to. It's fun to work and recognition is easy. The most enjoyable part of the job is the team I work with and degree of freedom we have. Management doesn't micro-manage so there is a lot of room for putting my own creativity in to the work I'm doing. Note that this only applies to the software developer division, no idea about other divisions of the company.

Management is the worst. Favoritism, nepotism, you name it, it happens in the Gainesville office. This branch is a revolving door for assistants. You’ll be overworked, unappreciated and they will get rid of you with no regards about the consequences. The office manager gossips and shares your personal matters with other employees and even agents.
