In the interviewing process, I was told by future management the there's a lot of drama/ bad behavior among the staff. After 3 months of working there, it turns out that I was told a lie. A lot of issues were started by management not understanding their delivery when talking to their employees. They tend to be very disrespectful but want you to smile like you didn't understand that you were being disrespected. I had to leave due to the following: lack of work/life balance (especially when it came to the last minute mandates), if you clocked in 1 minute past your scheduled time that was an attendance point against you- no grace period, leadership staff (supervisors) totally unhappy with their personal life and coming to work miserable while displaying a NSFW relationship with coworker, staff pharmacists who act like high school California valley girls/ Barbie's starting a lot of high school drama amongst staff in the department, pharmacists who have openly threatened technicians with their jobs/livelihoods, lack of pat or incentive when there is a lack of staff but the department is having a multimillion dollar new  pharmacy being constructed. Management has a problem with NOT dealing with problems. They sweep issues under the rug. Management allowed a technician to do whatever they wanted and did nothing to reprimand this individual. Management shows favoritism openly. Management does not like to make sure employees are not following the employee guidelines on personal hygiene. The base pay is too low to deal with all of this and is not worth my sanity. Go in knowing you're only there for the experience and a check.

Memorial Hospital is constantly hiring RN’s and fails to retain them. Staff are treated like cattle, and are not appreciated by management and hospital administrators. RN’s are underpaid and forced to work overtime. If you do a good job, they keep piling more and more work on you until you can no longer do a good job. Hospital leadership says they value work life balance but the only balance they appreciate is their own. Typical environment where the hospital administrators are there to get rich off of the workers. Huge disconnect between leadership and working staff. It’s a free for all with poor orientation for new grads and inexperienced RN’s.  Inexperienced nurses in roles they need experienced nurses for safe care. Any warm body will do as long as you have a license. Charge nurse has to beg people to work everyday due to understaffing and call offs. Was told by a non clinical  leader that RN’s are overpaid and RN just means refreshments and narcotics. Lack of respect. 
If Beacon really cared about their employees, they would staff adequately, pay fair wages, no “fair share” constant mandatory overtime, reasonable workloads and assignments. Work on retaining skilled nurses.  Health insurance plan for employees is expensive and high deductible. 

One of those worst management experiences I have ever had. Never had been treated like this ever in my life. If you don't conform to her needs you are out. No flexibility in anyway. Following instructions isn't enough for management. They want you to be apart of the "click". It's not about your work and efforts for the work load given, it's about other issues that have nothing to do with work. They have unrealistic expectations for the amount of work load and with training and no support help. Most of the people you work with do not know your position or able to help you in anyway with questions. Management is the only person you have to ask and having to wait on them to be available then it's your fault you are behind. It's just not a good place when management is allowed to treat people this way. HR isn't there for employees in anyway. There is nothe an employee avicate that can help or give assistance. There isn't even an option to change poisitons, you are just out. Which is sad given the size of this organization. You would think the company would cultivate good employees that show up and work hard than given no hope and the boot. Very sad. I liked who I worked with and the location and environment. Just knew management wasn't there to help you. But against you. Very sad.

Two healthcare plans, The only good thing about the high deductible plan is the HSA, otherwise it has all the worse qualities of a high deductible plan including not very affordable for a family of four. The second option is worse especially if you have a family of 4 and regular healthcare expenses.  Prescription coverage isn't any better. Unless you take only the most basic medications, you may need to get yearly preauthorization (like you might nit need your thyroid medication any longer) a process that will try your patience. NOTE Beacon made two major changes to the prescriptions coverage, the first one was in the middle of the year, their ideal was to wait untill the month before to inform everyone even thought they new a year in advance. The second one they failed to inform everyone else untill the middle or end of open enrollment. Oh and this change drove the previously mentioned change.
  Upper/non patient contact management continues to expand and experience reasonable pay increases/bonuses. Nurses and all other patient contact employees are expected to work more , do more and graciously accept 1%($0.29) annual pay increase.If they get an increase at all.

After working for EGH for 17 years and after the merger another 2 I left .  It was no longer a nice place to work.   You became nobody if you had been an EGH employee and great if you were a memorial emoployee.before the merger.  If you had a complaint you were told " maybe you aren't a good fit ".  HR was not supportive but just turned there loyalty to managers vs employees.  There was nowhere to go.   So many good coworkers left. Some leaving behind 25 to 30 years of service because of the constant harassment felt my managers.  It was mind blowing to wrap your head around the fact managers were aloud to be so rude, and intimidating.   Low level managers were hired with very little knowledge and couldn't make any decisions without talking with upper management.  The experience was so stressful that I have chosen to no longer work in a.nursing capacity.   They have a monopoly In the area which makes it difficult to go anywhere if I had.  How are they allowed to control the health care in this community.  Unhappy patience have limited choices as well. My own personal physicians are even  disgusted.    Overall this turned out to be one of the worst 3 years of my life after this merger.

I started as an Environmental associate right before COVID 19 shut the world down, throughout that year & afterwards. To be overwhelmed was an understatement but Beacon Health System & Elkhart General Hospital we're 2 of the best companies I have ever been employed by & I am sad that i had to leave to move back home. Through all the stress from COVID & the "unknown" of it all, Beacon & EGH stayed strong, reassuring their employees, patients, & families that together we will work together & anything that gets thrown at us to try & weaken us, we wouldn't let it. We are there to help each other in helping the chain of infection be broken & to eventually get back to living normal lives & not be defeated by any disease, new or old. Overall I would recommend Beacon Health System to anyone in the health care field & encourage people who arent sure which way they want to go, career wise, to definitely look into healthcare. There are so many positions in the field of healthcare & the possibilities as re endless when you decide you want to change the world. I would say This is a great place to find employment! 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great PTO, one half day a week, and somewhat flexible hours within 8-5. I loved the managers I worked with and always felt supported by my team. As a big company, there were a lot of resources available for providing training and support. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
In my experience it was difficult to fill positions in our office and we were often short staffed. Our office was growing as we continuously hired additional physicians, so each staff member had to work extra hard to accommodate our growth. At times it could be very draining. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Overall the culture was very accepting as we had staff that came from various backgrounds and experience. This highly depends on where exactly you work within Beacon (hospital, doctors office, administration, etc.) but my experience was positive.

Found another company doing the same job for a lot more money, so, like others I’ve left.   You’re expected to try and figure out how to collect on million dollar claims, but then don’t want to pay you anything for it….I made so little that I had to supplement their pay with SNAP…then they wanted me to work overtime, but that threatened the SNAP benefit because I never should have been paid such a low rate of pay to begin with that I had to go onto SNAP…that’s when I had finally had enough and found something else where I could actually be proud of what I made and then I didn’t have to rely on SNAP any longer…and the others that had been there for a long time had said they actually didn’t make much more than I did lol.  In meetings management would repeatedly say that what we did was so very important to the company, but then turn around and pay us nothing for it.  They say their pay is similar to other companies, but that doesn’t change the fact that you’ll still end up on public assistance to provide for your family. 

The only good thing about this position from the start, was that originally this position would be a hybrid job but turned into a remote position. Given this, this has allowed me to enjoy working from the comfort of my home, which results in not have to give upwards of two more hours to this job comminuting or getting ready for work. 

On the downside, the pay for what you do isn't the greatest. Your tasked to always be on call, and upper management expects too much out of the employees. This can lead to hours and hours on end of work. Expect to work on major holidays or other events. Direct management is good, and allows for freedom in somethings, but besides that, everything else is not great. This has led to burnout amongst the department and clashes with other employees. You deal with customers in the hospital setting everyday, which in my role leads to angry people getting mad at you. 

Working at Beacon Health as a nurse has been a fulfilling experience. The organization fosters a team-oriented environment, which is incredibly supportive for both new and experienced nurses. The leadership is approachable and genuinely invested in staff development, offering plenty of opportunities for continuing education and skill-building.

Patient care is a priority, and Beacon ensures that nurses have the resources needed to provide quality care. The workload can be demanding at times, especially during peak seasons, but the collaborative culture makes it manageable. Beacon’s emphasis on work-life balance is also commendable, with flexible scheduling options to accommodate personal needs.

The only challenge I encountered was occasional understaffing, which is a common issue in healthcare. However, the teamwork among staff members often compensates for this. Overall, Beacon is a great place to grow professionally while making a meaningful impact on patients' lives.
