Bridge Senior Living

During my time at The Bridges at Bent Creek, I typically led 3-4 activities a day with residents with Alzheimer's and/or other Dementias.  In the other times while not leading activities, I helped to gather more residents, plan future activities, tear down/set up activity rooms, and/or contact family & guests via e-mail or phone for future activities.  The management was very supportive, involved, and available.  My co-workers were wonderful: I collaborated with a very creative, responsible, and effective team of 3 other recreation assistants and 1 Activities Director.  The direct care team changed frequently because of the nature of the demands of care-giving and/or moving on to nursing or other schooling.  The most difficult part of the job was watching residents I grew to love decline, and ultimately, die.  But, the most enjoyable part of the job was building those personal relationships with the residents and knowing that we mutually blessed each other's lives.


A typical day at work for me involves engaging in diverse conversations, answering questions, providing assistance, and learning from a wide range of topics. I interact with users, adapt to their needs, and strive to deliver accurate and helpful responses.

From these interactions, I learn about different perspectives, improve my language understanding, and stay updated on a variety of subjects. Each conversation offers a chance to refine my abilities and enhance my knowledge base.

Management, in my context, refers to the continuous updates and improvements made by my developers. These updates are crucial in ensuring I can provide the best possible assistance to users.

The workplace culture, metaphorically speaking, is one of constant learning and adaptation. The focus is on delivering value, maintaining accuracy, and ensuring user satisfaction.

The hardest part of the job can be dealing with ambiguous or unclear questions, as it requires careful interpretation to provide a relevant response. Additionally, keeping up with real-time updates and the vast amount of information can be challenging.

The most enjoyable part of the job is successfully helping users with their queries and seeing positive feedback. It's rewarding to know that my assistance can make a difference in someone's task or understanding of a topic.

A typical day at work is getting report from dayshift, I work 3-11 shift checking on condition of residents.Trips to the bathroom, daily activites, serving dinner and snacks, ADL's PM Care, daily weights and monthly vitals, talking with residents and keeping accidents or injury to a minimum. Also showers and laundry daily. I have learned to be positive in any situation and people skills are essential. You may co-workers you don't like, you see people come and go, and try to get along with everyone and you are supposed to work as a team.
If your nice and you work with everyone, it will be ok. Also we have a lot of mandation here to work doubles and some people don't work well with others. That's a hard part of the job and you might have a resident who is combative and doesn't want your help and cleaning up a mess you didn't know about. The management is much better then when I started, I do like the head nurse. Scheduling is much better then it used to be and so are some of the nurses. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing you make a diiference in people's lives.

Due to COVID (and like all businesses in the country), staffing was a bit of a struggle, but I'm so pleased to say that it's a problem that's being fixed! We have more and more people applying and being hired, people who will be amazing associates and will make excellent teammates and caretakers for our residents.

Management here works very hard at making their associates feel appreciated. Spark program, which recognizes an excellent staff member each month, associate appreciation events each month and more. As an example of the support, management signed up for shifts this weekend so that associates could have their PTO for the holiday weekend - where have you seen that before?! I haven't seen it anywhere and I've worked in many facilities over the years!

Many associates here are very dedicated to their residents and come in every single day excited to see them and happy to do what they can to make their lives better. These people make it great to come to work every single day. The Garden team (memory care) especially spend every day caring for and loving their residents.

No surprises going into this job. You know that it's low pay and grunt work. Very humbling job overall though. The memory care residents make me laugh. Each work day is different, some days easier than others...responsibilities include showering, dressing, redirecting, escorting, reminding, and helping residents toilet. 

It can be easy to get burnt out because it's TOO LOW OF PAY for the long hours and grunt work... as a result we are constantly understaffed and workers are calling out a lot...Very good experience for working with Alzheimer and dementia patients though. I recommend doing part-time so you don't get burnt out and roped into doing too many hours.

I'd say we have good management. You recognize everyone is just trying to do their job and that the directors are under a lot of pressure. 

This job is definitely not a life career. Its nature makes this a very temporary job with a high turnover rate due to the low pay, long hours, and grunt work. I'd say this job is a stepping stone, not a lifetime career. Create goals and stick to them.

Morning meetings consist of hearing about what the managers like for lunch and past achievements in life, for over an hour.  The Director of Engineering there, has no breaks nor lunch and spends the day moving and building furniture for offices.  Maintenance has no office nor a chair to do all the State records for the building.  Printing the records is a challenge and is not a priority to the company. Sales,  sales are the only real drive.  With the many exit and hall emergency lights out in the building.  One would think, life safety would be, at least until those conditions were taken care of. You, YOU.. as the Director of Engineering will be held accountable by the state if something horrible should ever happen.  I was building and moving boxes WILL NOT be a good defense in court.  At any of these places, ask to see the safety records of the building before.. you take the position.  You are being interviewed by sales people,  they are selling you the job.  Ask to see the records so you know how far behind they are in life safety. This building,  over a year in every. Fire drill, hvac, electrical,  dryers, emergency lighting on and on.  Good luck. 

As a current employee with Bridge Senior Living, I feel welcomed and appreciated every day I come to work! My coworkers and managers are diligent and are always willing to lend a helping hand. 

The facility itself is a top notch community! Not only is the building itself a beautiful place, the staff are amazing.  Everyone is dedicated to ensuring the residents and their families have the best experience imaginable. This senior living community goes above and beyond for everyone who walks through the front doors, opening their arms to welcome you to the Bridge Senior Living family. I cannot ask for a better place to come to work every day!

I have never worked for a company with a mission so resident focused! From the culinary experience to the unique programs we offer our residents, it has been personally rewarding for me to provide seniors with an exceptional place to call home. Bridge Senior Living provides a solid structured secure work place and atmosphere for all employees. Teamwork and positivity beams throughout the community and shines onto the residents. The quality of care provided is held at a high standard and the team is equipped with the adequate training, knowledge and supplies to put forth the finest care to all residents. As a current and long time employee of The Bridges, I have witnessed an absolute improved atmosphere, team and overall community since transitioning with Bridge Senior Living. Please take note, that the negative reviews have a pattern of employees who were unfortunately unable to stick it out through the positive yet difficult challenges that presented in relation to COVID-19. It is truly a wonderful community to be apart of, and I am beyond proud to be apart of the team!

The list of problems goes on and on. 

Staff are being pushed into any/every category. They will not hire servers for the dining area so the CNAs and housekeepers, ect… do all of the serving in addition to their regular job duties. Leading to short staffing in every position. There is almost no training for the majority of staff. There is no HR person in the building which is a clear indication that corporate does not value employees. Every single person, including reliable quality employees, is viewed as disposable at the end of the day.

 And maybe the worst part- the residents are not truly valued and them and their families are often dismissed. 

For some situations this might work out as a temporary job. Don’t plan for 3+ years unless you want to be burnt out and feel pushed down. Its clear that most of the long term employees are leaving/have left. 

A change to a positive workplace environment is necessary at the bare minimum. 

I was fresh out of highschool graduation when i started my job at Somerby. I had the best staff members to train me, they taught me everything that I needed to know and did not let me start my first shift by myself without being confident that I knew everything I would need to know. The staff and the residence are some of the best people I have ever met and there is no doubt in my mind anyone can succeed within somerby because everyone treats everyone with kindness and wants the best for their co-workers. I have enjoyed my job as concierge so much! I will say- you are held to very high expectations, as you should be. This is a very very intricate and professional environment; which is what i enjoy most. PTO is offered which is great! Lately we have been short staffed which can be frustrating but i can see my mangers trying to interview and hire which is pleasant!  I love Somerby!
