The mission and patient care in hospice work are meaningful, which is what initially drew me to Brighton COS, which has strong mission, vision, and values. However, in my experience, there were notable gaps between what was presented and the day-to-day reality of the role.

Caseload expectations often felt difficult to manage within standard business hours, and I regularly had to work evenings and weekends just to keep up. Over time, this contributed to sustained workload pressure and emotional exhaustion that was difficult to maintain long-term. I also heard similar concerns from colleagues during my time there.

When workload concerns were raised, responses often felt focused more on individual performance (including employees who were consistently high performing) than on whether expectations were sustainable at a systems level. As a result, capacity concerns did not always feel fully addressed in a way that led to meaningful operational adjustment.

Communication and leadership style, in my experience, sometimes felt more corrective than supportive, especially when raising workload, systemic, or process concerns. At times, this made it harder to feel fully heard when discussing day-to-day challenges.

There also appeared to be some role confusion at times, with overlapping or inconsistent direction coming from different parts of the organization, which occasionally made it unclear where final decision-making responsibility rested.

I also observed meaningful staff turnover during my time there, including several experienced and highly respected team members leaving within a relatively short period. In addition, expectations and processes were not always clearly defined, and training felt limited given the complexity of the work.

Taken together, these factors contributed to a work environment that, in my experience, involved sustained workload pressure, limited clarity in certain areas of support, and a high level of operational demand.

For those considering a position, I would strongly encourage asking very specific questions about caseload expectations, after-hours work, onboarding and training structure, and how workload concerns are addressed when demands exceed standard capacity.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Toxic environment. Management is awful, they are inexperienced in Management and hospice, they don't know medicare rules. The pay went over to salary, the case loads are very high for some nurses and others would get lower care Loads and because you dont know their circumstances. There was no compensation for over 40 even though they would tell you there was. They refuse to get case loads down to a reasonable amount. They would say we have support staff to help. This was not the case because the management team also had case loads and they were using the prn staff during the week and on the weekends for their visits. They did the bare min for their visits. The administror they hired only has a background in music and she was running the place making decisions, Including nursing when the nurse manager was out. They were rude in the office and were concentrated more on having breakfast and lunch paid by the company then the nurses in the field who continue loose pay. There is 0 work life balance. The ones with work life balance are ones that seem to be getting low case loads and going home at noon and still getting paid.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The case loads being high. Working over 40 hours. With it being salary now they tell you they will compensate you but don't. There PRN staff is always sent somewhere else to assist with manager caselaods because they are busy having personal time with each other. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very toxic within the management. There is alot of staff that avoid going into the office because of it. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Taking multiple calls. Doing 5 t0 6 visits per day. There are also admission 2x monthly you are required to do. You are required to drive in any territories. Visits can also be added on due to emergencies.

Given many of the glowing reviews, I thought this company genuinely cared for its employees.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  This company only cares about growth and productivity numbers.  They did not disclose that numerous on call and after-hours work has generically been required for this position, including recently mandating that two overnight shifts be picked up due to turnover.  This company does not pay overtime unless approved by a manager in advance.  I find myself often working 50-60 hours per week, only occasionally being paid what I actually work.  I eventually found myself being strong-armed without ability to refuse requests to do things like pick up admissions after hours that I feel no one else has been requested or more like pressed into to doing.  It's as if they think I don't have a life.  There is a culture of toxic positivity that if you don't buy into, you are shunned.  Some people have literally berated me at this place for not being able to predict a patient's death, as if you can realistically do that.  There have been other instances where people are snarky or disrespectful.  Management is not helpful at all if you have a problem and has inconsistent, confusing communication.  Bringing up problems to management doesn't resolve them; it only creates more headaches in that nothing ever gets addressed.  I have literally never cried this much while doing a job, not because of frequently dealing with death, but because of stress, snarky co-workers, poor management and simply what is asked of me on a day-to-day basis.  There is no work-life balance working here.  Just work.  No balance.  Avoid working here if you can, for your sanity and peace of mind.

As a marketing hospice sales consultant at Brighton Hospice, my experience was unfortunately hindered by a few notable concerns. During my time there, I had four different supervisors in the span of just one month. This lack of consistency made it challenging to establish a rapport with any one person, and made it difficult to feel like I had adequate support and guidance.
Additionally, I became aware that Brighton Hospice tracks their employees' whereabouts 24/7 via their expense app. While I understand the need for accountability and expense tracking, the lack of disclosure about this practice was concerning. It felt like an invasion of privacy and created an uncomfortable work environment.
Another issue that I encountered was the expectation to work from the road with no dedicated office time to get reports done. While I appreciate the flexibility of being able to work remotely, this expectation made it challenging to maintain a healthy work-life balance. It also created additional stress and pressure to meet deadlines while on the go.
Overall, while there were certainly positive aspects to working at Brighton Hospice, these concerns made it challenging to fully embrace my role as a marketing liaison. I would encourage anyone considering a position at this company to carefully evaluate these factors and determine if they are comfortable with them before accepting the job.

I didn't think I was ever going to leave when I started at Brighton over a year ago. Things started changing around September 2022. Double the caseload, constantly running yet not being able to keep my head above the water. I quickly realized I was alone in trying to manage a heavy caseload. I continued to express my concerns and frustrations. Numerous times I let my supervisor and management team know I needed help. Unfortunately that help never came. I expressed major concerns for possible neglect of a patient and it was put on the back burner. RNs began expressing how poorly the CNAs and RNCMs were being treated by countless assisted living facilities & nursing homes but nothing was ever done. The company started admitting patient's who were truly not hospice appropriate. I questioned whether or not some patients were hospice appropriate and each time I felt that my questions were brushed under the rug. The company quickly went from supporting all team members to pointing fingers and thinking their RNs need to worry more about referrals than their current patients. Unfortunately the company must have forgotten their own mission statement. The end of Brighton Hospice's mission statement reads "Our leaders focus on supporting the clinical team so they can concentrate on patient care. We are always guided by our commitment to excellence." 
In my opinion, Brighton's mission statement could not be further from the truth. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
They Appreciate work you do. Nurse will come to your company  where you are so your alway talk to them if there something going on or if you just need answer with client or policy about company they show up just believe you not along when time  to team up  or how you feel  when you new employee they be on your side thick and thin . They never leave you out to dry.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Never allow someone or anyone to stress your day . Make sure if you been train in field  ask question. If you think someone who training you right. Don’t hold back sometime your training person leave you in stressful situation .They just leave you feeling stressful this job not one for you .Ask question about lesson before you start .resident can put lots stress on you to so . Never put more on plate then you chew. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Well as time go on all kind  culture walk of life . Riding in these facilities.Some are sweet . Most time it Racist one go far out in these facilities.I still have job to do keep been nice and polite try make better day.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
We’ll show up on time . Having Positive attitude show them I can handle the job. Working professional as time go on ,stock  up my supply wavering, speaking smiling. Early start before head out in field to  meet and greet my client.

The reason why Brighton succeeds as a company, is because of the passion of the nurses and aides. Everyone in management came from previous hospice companies and stick together. Unfortunately, I felt I knew more about my position than they did. Asking questions was useless. Get ready to hear about admission goals constantly. And to reach those goals marketers would not tell the whole story of what hospice was to families to get them to sign on. They would market it as “extra help” for those in facilities that did not receive adequate care. A lot of admitted patients were not close to dying. The reason why this was a problem was because if you are on hospice, treatment medications and hospital visits were not covered by the program. It was difficult for families that still wanted treatment to understand this.
Also, the office environment is the fakest most toxic place I’ve worked in. The administrator would follow you around to see what you were doing, who you were taking to, and what you were saying. They make you believe they care about you as a person but are quick to turn when you express concerns or tell them you are leaving. It’s like any other corporate environment, don’t let them fool you

Before I was even hired, I daily checked with my friends already working there if the culture they said they had was in fact real. And it is!  My initial interview was like sitting down with friends and discussing how much we love hospice and why. It's only gotten better since then. As an RNCM, this company understands the nurse-patient relationship and we actually get the time to spend with patients and families. Our nurse patient ratio is perfect -- enough to keep us busy, but not so much that we can't get all we need to done.  I love being in a place that gives me the space to be the nurse I want to be. I love that they hire before the need as well. There will always be growing pains, and they are super picky about who they hire so it can get busy at times, but it also feels good that my co-workers are going to be amazing.

I don't see myself ever looking for another company. I'm still having difficulty in believing it's as good as it is, but so far so good.

Cons -- benefits, but honestly not any worse than other companies in this industry. And really, good benefits is pretty much the unicorn of the healthcare industry. Pay is average for the industry. I took a slight paycut (but it was worth it)

Where to begin. I was hopeful Brighton would be a company I would stay for a long time. I stayed for about 7 months. In the beginning for my orientation they were disorganized, they didn’t tell me a time/where to go. I kept positive. I at first had a small case load and then it went up slowly and was up to 17. In the job summary it clearly enunciated work life balance and reasonable case loads and this is far from the truth. The company doesn’t have a formal education portion to go over charting 1:1, you just get thrown out there and learn as you go. My leader tried their best to help the nurses but the problem was the company kept admitting patients when we did not have the capacity or capability to do so. I met amazing co workers who will be lifelong friends, so it was sad that I needed to leave them behind. The company also doesn’t have enough music therapists and no massage or pet therapy available since I started in December of 2022-July of 2023. Several people addressed the company hosting all staff meetings to develop common ground, but they never made effort to. It’s sad. They hired new managers who say they’re gonna make change, so I hope so for the sake of the company but couldn’t stay to watch.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The staff….    I have been a nurse since 1991 and I have never worked in such a positive, caring and  supportive group of people!   Everyone LOVES their job and what they do!  We definitely make the end of life journey much better, comfortable, and provide support for the family too.  This team of people are truly amazing!  I am so lucky to have been hired there!  Almost 2 months and I don’t have any complaints!  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Like with any job…. Not knowing where to chart always, wondering if I missed charting somewhere, etc.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very positive!  It’s a group of fun, educated , caring people who genuinely support you and want you to succeed!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Morning huddle remotely at 0830.  Drive to your patient’s place of residence, do a head to toe assessment and VS,  see if the patient needs supplies or equipment,  assess for changes, pain, needs.   Chart…. Turn on mileage counter and go to the next patients house.  Usually 3 or 4 patients a day.  Except for meeting days.
