Brightview

Brickman is a national company compsed of several regions and hundreds of branches. This review reflects only the southeast region and the branches in the Atlanta market. There is no leadership. From the branch managers up to senior management positions. There is no direction, no plan, no goals. Branch manager positions are empty and can not be filled. For years! Regional managers only hold their positions for a year before they get tired and leave. Account managers last a year or two because the can not achieve the impossible goals of new sales, upgrade sales and customer relationship that is required of them. Operation managers grow tired of being handcuffed all the time. To do more with less. Less people, less equipment, less resources, less time. Not uncommon to have an entire new branch every 3-4 years. Someone with 10 years at Brickman is extremely rare. Strange for a company that has been in business since 1939. Because of the turn over and lack of direction, the branches are in choas. Customers are lied to, stolen from, and over charged. You are expected to look into a customers eyes and make promises you have no intention of delivering on. Branch budgets are being blown. To make up for it, skip a week of service to your properties but tell the customer you were there. Supposed to have five guys on a crew, cut it down to two. Eliminate a complete round of fertilizer. Cut hourly employees to 32 hours and if they don't like it, tell them to find a new job in this economy. Brickman has ethics and values but nobody is making sure the branches are living up to them. Try to find a manager at a Brickman site after 3:00 pm. The crews will still be out working but not one manager. Crews get back whenever they feel like it and steal whatever they feel like. If you try to stand up and say this is not right, to care, to try and do the right thing, you are told to shut up and do your job. Nothing more. Things will work themselves out in the end, but they never do. It only gets worse. Why are the same jobs posted over and over and over again? Because good people get there and realize it is not worth it and leave. The compensations is very low. They try to sell you on the stability of the company. Get a check every two weeks. Once you start, you will not get any type of sizable. There is no type of training either for your current position or for any future positions. They can not find managers but don't want to train good people to become managers. For higher position, Brickman will most likely higher from outside. Even canidates that were once employed with Brickman but were fired, got on with another company and grew and suceeded, then identified as someone that Brickman should bring back. There is no future. Just a job that goes on and on for days until you can not take anymore. Brickman is not a leader in the industry, not doing it right, and they don't care.

Not the greatest place to work. Not an employee focus company and not a place were you can get ahead in life. As a well paid production manager with nearly 30 years experience in all areas of landscaping from equipment operation to landscape design, I worked there for 3 years and endured their discombobulated and dysfunctional organizational management skills to the point that I became internally ill, literally. The toxic nature of the work environment is cancerous and mentally draining. The constant negativity you face every single day will wear on you. Their entire philosophy and mentality centers around profits and profits only. The employee is not their focus. The company actually has a unique way of taking good positive people and driving them into the ground with their backward thinking management solutions that continuously lead to losing properties or creating unhappy contracts that eventually leave. Employee turnover rate is 75%. That alone should give you insight on how they treat their employees. Never have I seen such poor direction and management. The fact that I had a management degree and decades of experience from top to bottom had never crossed their minds. Instead, I spent my days spraying weeds and filling in for drivers who never show up to work. There are a lot better choices out there for careers. If you are an experienced landscape manager, save yourself some grief and steer clear from this place.

I was promised advancement. Was hired to be an Associate Account Manager but was offered a lower position at time of signing. The ole bait and switch. Then, corporate lowered my position after they acquired Valley Crest. Again, not out of discipline, but to save them money so they didn't have to pay me a manager's salary. Then, to top it all off again, reduced my title again to save money. No disciplinary action, just sheer greed for profits. You won't get ahead here. If you have talent, you won't be appreciated here. It's really comical to watch how all their good guys keep leaving the company. They are not looking for talent here but warm bodies that do whatever they say.

Love my job here! Great work-life balance, not micromanaged, great benefits (medical, dental, vision, employee assistance program, wellness programs where you can earn HSA dollars, matching 401k (3% is matched 100%, the next 2% is matched 50%), stock purchase plan where you get 10% off, tuition reimbursement or can even be free, 3 weeks PTO per year to start, weekly paychecks, they cover disability insurance, Employee foundation to help employees who go through emergencies, women's foundation to encourage women in leadership, sick pay, and lots of holiday days off (2 at Thanksgiving, 2 at Christmas, 2 at New Years, plus others). Also lots of other benefits I'm not mentioning. 

I feel appreciated and my opinion is respected, management has been a pleasure to work with, they all just want to have a good team and do a good job. Of course they want to stay on budget but that's what's kept up in business since the 1930's! 

They promote good workers fairly and balance being profitable (which leads to job security) with the people side. I feel they try to work on any weaknesses, they take surveys and try to work on it. For example, people said they wanted more training and they are getting more training. It is a corporate job, but that means we have the policies and procedures it takes to run efficiently and do a good job, the resources (people to go to for help, technology, training, etc), competent people, and the joy of working for the leading landscaper in the country (which attracts the best people so you are likely to have a good team). 

No small family owned business drama/incompetence here, just a professional, lets get it done mentality). 

I rarely get candidates turning down job offers because they know we are a great company with a stellar reputation. Jobs rarely get cancelled since they make sure they are approved properly with checks and balanced before posting. The hardest part of the recruiting role is learning their jobs, system, req approval process, and getting reqs approved - but nothing to complain about, just the standard obstacles for any large company and those are all the things that make the system work so well to begin with.

The benefit that Brightview (or any other proven addiction clinic) provides to their community is immeasurable. I felt honored to be a part of my patients' recovery.

Brightview is a victim of its own success. They are adding facilities faster than they can solidify work processes in the ones they have already established. Each facility and each member of management do things vastly differently. This causes confusion amongst employees because Brightview routinely movs members of management, as well as other employees, from facility to facility, It's a constant game of musical chairs. There is no consistency in the way that things are done and no cohesiveness amongst work groups. Brightview management changes rules and processes, sometimes without even informing employees of the changes. ex: After my immediate supervisor approved a homeless patient for intake, I was informed by a different member of management that BV was no longer accepting homeless patients. Another manager "overrode" that and told me to continue the intake process. After I had assured the desperate young man that we would help him, yet another member of management told me to send him away and that the policy on homeless patients had been changed 2 weeks prior. No one in our facility had been informed of this policy change. The young man walked out into the street, sobbing. 

The nepotism that runs rampant through the organization has causes issues with favoritism and causes a culture of fear amongst employees. Employees know that they will face retaliation if they stand up against unprofessional behavior or harassment from certain employees. BV pays more than state minimum wage but far less than a living wage. For the valuable work performed there, it would seem reasonable to ask for living wages. BV does not agree.

Only reason I would give this place 2 stars is because of the work the managers at office do in litigating disputes among workers. This place is plagued with a high turnover ratio as crew leaders in each truck over work new guys and Americans who grew up here regardless if you are Hispanic or not to the point where they are exhausted everyday and don’t want to come back. Me being me never said anything back to the leaders, but I fully understood most of what they were saying(4 years of Spanish in high school, senior year was AP) and the disrespectful things they would say about fellow Co-workers who were African American were atrocious. I’ve heard them say word word “The more we over work the blacks, the more they will quit” all in efforts for the company to hand out more work visas to there family back home. I find this appalling as they hand out the hardest work to the new guys and complain when they get tired by midday and need more breaks. And where was the supervisors during all this you may ask, no where to be seen! Cause if you needed something to complain about the only option was person in the office or the office manager. Only time supervisors went to them was to write you up and never they’re fellow crew leaders who they used to work with. AGAIN DONT WORK HERE, unless you want to deal with backhanded racism all day, and a supervisor who should be protecting you but only stays on the side of his own people. If you want job security though come work for brightview where they can’t afford to fire you because of the amount of workers they really need. Most crew leaders(blue shirts) also know zero English and supervisors are very biased.

My experience working at BrightView Landscape Services was deeply disappointing.

The biggest issue was the lack of support from upper-level management. Leadership seemed disconnected from the day-to-day realities faced by employees in the field, and concerns or requests for assistance often went unanswered. Instead of receiving guidance and coaching, employees were expected to figure things out on their own.

The training provided was mediocre at best. Expectations were high from day one, yet the onboarding process failed to equip employees with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to succeed. There was a significant gap between what was taught and what was expected in practice.

The performance expectations also felt unrealistic. Goals and metrics appeared to be set without considering market conditions, territory challenges, or available resources. The culture often felt more focused on numbers than on employee development and long-term success.

Perhaps most concerning, I personally felt there was an imbalance in opportunities provided to male versus female employees. In my experience, men appeared to receive greater support, visibility, and advancement opportunities, while female employees had to work harder for the same recognition.

BrightView has the potential to be a strong organization, but meaningful improvements are needed in leadership accountability, training, employee support, and workplace culture. Until those issues are addressed, I would not recommend this company to anyone seeking a supportive and equitable work environment.

It was a anxiety inducing nightmare from the first day I walked in to the last day I was there. My 'supervisor' was a woman with a high school preppy girl crises even though she was in her mid 40's. Her 'followers' acted like the flying monkeys from The Wizard of OZ whenever she wanted something. She would also disappear and go home less than a few hours into her shift without telling anyone, and I cant count how many times HER MANAGER would walk around asking if we knew where she was because he had no idea! I had a horrible pregnancy that ended in a really bad miscarriage and needed a D&C quickly because everything was not coming out and I was fired because they refused to give me the two days I needed off for the surgery and a day to recover. They straight up told me if I did not come in right after the surgery I would be fired. How is anyone supposed to work after being put under for a decently evasive operation. Even though my supervisor claimed she had 9 miscarriages and that 'I could trust her' she was the worst when it came to trying to go to the doctor appointments to see if the baby was fine. Even forced me to not go to my first appointment more than three weeks past what I should have because she threatened to fire me. Also they really treat all employees like garbage unless you are a Supervisor and above, or a minion as I like to call them. Anything below that you better kiss up really good if you want to keep your job or MAYBE transfer to a new area, IF they feel like it or like you enough. Also the lower on the totem pole you were the worse the treatment got for you.

First, When I worked for Brickman Group, I learned a lot from them, such as, how they made bed, using fertilizer to plant flowers. Pick up plants and flowers to delivery to the station, sometime to the shop for the next day. time sheet, daily activities reported to the operation Manager. Led the team to work, and double check, if they aren't left something. Some coworker made it a little difficult for me when they can not perform the task well, in this case what I did was. I went quickly forward with who can perform the job and I get back to help and taught this coworker to wake him up. the harder part is using ladder to stand, and tchim high fichus. Enjoyable driven, and explain the work procedures. No benefit in Brickman Company, such as, personal day, sick day, Holidays, vacation nothing.

Some time I worked in the front, doing patient registration, the other time, I worked  in other station, doing finger sticks, and the third station doing, consultation to the patients on their  medical finding, including answered any question they may have, and transferred them to the Doctor for further process.
Assisted Living Facility
worked in the Front Desk received the Patients family, opened  and closed for the families. have them signed and answered question if they have, took the request, and called the patient for their family. helped the patient with wheelchair doing transportation to their rooms. In the administrator Office, I did filing,
JP Family Medical Practice
did paper worked for the patients, and called them, doing vital signs, prepares treatment rooms for the patients.

Jamesville is just not a good place to work. Branch needs some serious help. I was lied to when I started. Management doesn’t help much only one time. I started as a crew leader got paid good compared to other workers that have been there for years that’s the worse part. I came with a lot of experience. I was given the short end of the stick right out the door. Never had an orientation but they tried saying they gave me one. Watch what you sign with these guys. They’re a little snakey. The HR at this branch was absolutely horrible, very rude person for absolutely no reason. I was told I was cleared to drive but learned from a employee that I was suppose to take DOT test and drivers course/training. That never happened. There was definitely a couple good managers. I won’t name names just in case but definitely two of them that were really good people and helped. The account managers sent me to a place that was absolutely giant with only 3 48 inch mowers. A crew that had never cut before and the blame was always put on me. I felt like they were constantly trying to get rid of me all the time. To many lies and to much favoritism. This branch is a horrible part of Brightview I believe Brightview in a whole is a great company but the branch really makes them look absolutely horrible. The trust isn’t with this place. They are very untrustworthy. The older guys are very rude people who do nothing but talk behind your back and watch you do all the work and then take credit for it. 

Company is an absolute cluster f. Most days were spent trying keep customers happy while trying to skip as much contractually promised work as possible(thats the big secret to brickmans profits). Brickman is NOT a drug free workplace. I stopped bothering to learn that names of the people that got hired because there was so much turnover. In the 6 months i was with the company we had well over 100% turnover, of the 10 people with the same position as me i watched 26 people fill those 10 spots in 6 months. I watched mid level managers get fired, demoted, suspended for H.R. issues and fired for getting a DUI in a company vehicle.
I was lied to in my interview about the number of hours the job entailed each week (told 50 when 70 was reality), i was promised a raise on my 90 review, which i hadnt received as of my 6th month review (never got it), and when a job posted that would have been a promotion my branch manager lead me on for 2 months about it before telling me (on my last day; you do that math) that i didnt know that internal workings of the branch well enough for the position, yet they were hiring someone from the outside with no landscape expeiriance.
Not a place to build a career, use it for a fill in between jobs if you need to, anyone with a drivers licence can be a supervisor because the place turns people over so fast. insist on being paid hourly.
NO ONE will be promoted from within the branch as long as current branch manager is in place.
