A typical day working with BWHC depends on if you have permanent or temporary cases. Permanent cases are clients that you work with regularly, whereas temporary cases are usually just coverage for other PCAs. Permanent days are preferred in my experience because you build a rapport with your clients and it’s a stable source of income. Clients vary greatly in terms of the care they need; some are bed-bound and need extensive care, while others are fairly independent and you’re more there to observe, guide, and monitor their safety. 

What I’ve learned is that you need patience and a good attitude working with these people. You’re basically a type of social worker.

My workplace culture experience is that there is little-to-no communication with other PCAs; it’s mostly just one-on-one phone calls with your client coordinator (who’s your boss) and the nurse overseeing your client. You only go into office locations for supplies, meaning that the majority of the work is on-site.

The hardest parts of the job is that it doesn’t pay well (it depends on where you live. Schenectady makes $11.80) and you’re not compensated for commuting. We’re not allowed to accept tips or gifts from clients (as much as they want to give them to you). The hard part about that isn’t following that rule, but seeing clients sad/upset when you say you can’t accept it because it puts your job at risk. Moreover, if you’re given clients that are back-to-back, you don’t get a “real break” during the commute.

I think the best part of the job is being able to make a difference in the lives of others when/where they need it most. I don’t find the work particularly rewarding, but knowing that people are being taken care of, as opposed to being at risk on their own, makes me believe that we’re slowly moving toward taking care of the populations that are vulnerable. It’s like a nice step forward.

Very easy process but not well organized in my opinion.Your told in the class you will be assigned a coordinator once classes are completed and that’s untrue you don’t have a coordinator till you take a case the coordinator is attached to the client not the aide.They don’t try very hard to get you clients they don’t reach out to you to work your left to constantly be trying to reach out to multiple coordinators to try to get clients or fill in to get hours.My pay has been messed up multiple times and I’m told because they are having problems with the clients insurance company they will not release money owed till following week so I’ve had to go weeks with no pay waiting for it to be sent and or released.They only pay $1 extra per hour to work holidays,no insensitive in my opinion 

Worst agency in the world to work for. There is no management. You have coordinators who call you for cases, however they do not actually provide assistance when you have any issues. They “double book” Caregivers meaning they assign you to a case and you arrive and there’s already an aid there. Waste of time and money which they don’t care about. During this entire pandemic they never reached out for assistance or extra supplies. Oh wait, they did give us a $5 Dunkin’ Donuts card which was laughable. The office only gives you 2 or 3 masks/gloves/timesheets so you have to constantly go to your local office. Your coordinators don’t return your call. If you’re unhappy with a client you have to put in a 2 weeks notice just to get taken off the case. They are the absolute worst. They care nothing about you and it shows. This company won’t be around much longer.

A typical day of work at Broadway Home Care is chaotic and stressful. What I learned from working with Broadway Home Care includes knowledge of medicals, criminal history background checks, and all of the in and outs of a home care agency. The workplace culture is decent. Staff and management are extremely strict. The hardest part of the job is meeting unrealistic expectations in a robotic procedure. The most enjoyable part of the job is the aides and clients that you get to speak with on a daily and the opportunity to certify aides and put them to work. It is a very rewarding feeling. This was the best job I have ever worked at minus feeling unwanted, the constant criticism and the constant thoughts about your job security.

We don't provide good care to our customers.The culture is very cut throat, you can't trust anyone, everyone only looks out for themselves and their attitude is terrible. What I love most about the job is the cutomers the patients and tring to make them happy. Management gets huge salaries but does nothing to earn there salary. My typical is that I'm in the hospitals all day seeing patients 
social workers and doctors in the hospitals. My job is to build a relationship with so that they can trust you enough to give or refer to you there patients to care for them. I learned by working for company that the more you do the less the appreciate you..

The lack of communication between the coordinators and employees is disgusting. My shifts get changed and I find out the day before from my patients significant other. Concerns regarding your patient don't get addressed. I've been signed up for direct deposit since March. Still getting paper checks. I was shorted pay one day. Payroll never got back to me nor did they fix it. Call HR to report an issue so it can get fixed. It never gets fixed. My pay this week has been delayed to payroll losing a timesheet I sent in. I have to suffer due to their mistake. You can never get a hold of an actual person. Do not recommend working here. 

The co.is owned by ppl of a different culture. Certain holidays, you're left w/ no one to contact .I ask when I started if I could have full time,as I'm single, they assured me I could.  The most hrs I ever had on a normal week was 15-21. The ppl in the office don't listen when you inform them,,in advance,,of time you'll be needing off,,for things like doctor'sappointments. You're told not  to go to the store for the clients or take them places due to liability, but most are shut ins ,and you're not reimbursed for gas.

I have learned that each case is different depending on the clients needs. In a typical day I prepare at least one meal as well washing dishes after the client has eaten. I also sweep and mop all the rooms in the living quarters. I bathe the client(s) if need upon their request as well as what is written in their POC. I encourage the patients to walk with me outside and make sure that they take their appropriate medications if needed and stated on their POC.

It is very nice place to work because you help people. You feel needed and they feel like they can depend on somebody who will take care of them. That is the plus of the job. The pay is not really good because you have to be a helper, cook, housekeeper and have many other stuff to do for a person. The company doesn't pay for the millage and if there is a Jewish Holiday forget about any communication with the coordinator or management, there is only people on call who just will take your message. People are nice but i guess there is always something not right in every job.

Answer 6 line phone.  Direct phone calls over intercom.  Greet visitors and direct them also.  Complete charts for residents.  
Filing patient records. Sometimes keep sharp eye on the front door, as residents would try to walk out without being discharged.  Put up lamps, decorations (flowers, table lace)
and lock them in a conference room.
