A typical day: you badge in, go to the sign in room, and look to see what your assignment for the day is. You'll usually attend a "huddle" when you get there also, where they tell you everything you need to know for the day. First and Second shift are good at having huddles at least. Being a housekeeper is pretty self explanatory, we keep the hospital clean. We clean rooms so patients have somewhere to go. There's many different areas you could work in, on the floors in inpatient areas, the ER, surgery, labor and delivery, etc. When you get hired on, they'll more than likely have pre-determined where they are going to place you.. but you can always ask to get trained in other areas after you get use to it. Before coming to Bronson, I worked at the other local hospital for 2 years doing the same job so I was for the most part put everywhere right off the bat. 

When I first came to Bronson, management was awesome. Compared to the other local hospital I came from, I was so happy because things seemed so great here. They seemed to care about us, were super helpful, and enjoyed coming to work. I have no idea what has changed or why things are the way they are now. Management is horrible. I will say I have switched shifts since then also. They play favorites, and a lot of us have noticed this when it comes to calling in. That's all I'm going to say about that. It's also super hard to get any help. You're usually left to fend for yourself. Again, I don't know what's changed but I feel like I use to be comfortable approaching management or just talking to them in general, most of us just avoid them at this point. Our department has an insane amount of drama which is really unfortunate because the managers will sit there and talk with other associates and gossip too. You usually wont see them walking around on the floors either because they are soo busy doing work on their computers....all day.... every day. Not all of the managers are like that but again, that's all I will say. 

Another thing, the other departments and staff. You have to be thick skinned because people usually look down on us because were "just housekeepers". Nurses for example can be super rude. A lot of evs folks let it bother them, you can't let it bother you. I'm super grateful for the nurses that are super nice to us and treat us like we are humans. It sucks going to work and having people treat you like you're someone who just cleans the toilets. I'm not sure why it was to be like this... we are all humans and adults at the end of the day. I know everyone's roles can get super stressful, so I think that's where it comes from sometimes, which is why I say you can't let it bother you. This is just the way working at a hospital as a housekeeper anywhere usually is.

I could go on and on about a lot of things. Overall, I use to love working at Bronson, but a lot of things have happened, especially recently and I am trying hard to get out, as are a lot of other people are too.. in the evs department at least. I am a very hard worker, and while my manager does acknowledge this, this job is just not worth the stress it brings. To Bronson, you're a number. They know they are the largest employer in our area too, so you're also VERY replaceable. My grandfather worked there and right before I started, he was killed in a crash. They had his job posted on work day instantly. So don't go their stressing yourself out. Life is too short for it. Just go do your job, don't get caught up in the drama happening, and go home. 

Overall, this is not a bad job. Its super easy, just gets very physically exhausting since its such a big hospital and you are usually everywhere. For what we do, I think they pay very well, and the benefits are decent also. Management just really sucks, they don't care if you are your child are insanely sick to the point where going to the ER is necessary/or advised by a doctor, your job is suppose to be your main priority, and lots of favoritism and unfairness even if you are a hard worker.

If you're planning to be a phlebotomist here you will be WORKED TO THE BONE. Never a consistent schedule and barely any days off. Also, the pay is not fair at all, for all of the traumatic injuries I see and angry patients, I could be working at McDonalds for literally the same amount of money maybe even more. There is no union and HR does not care about you at all, they just see you as another body to work. Also, you're SUPPOSED to get two 30 minute breaks during 8 hour shifts however some locations only give you one 30 minute break and that's IT. I've had days where I haven't gotten a break at all because of the number of patients. If you're closing one of the offsites expect to almost never get out on time because the actual lobby/front desk closes at 5 instead of 4:30 or 4:45 so if someone comes in at 4:59 and you already have all of your specimens packed and ready to go you HAVE to draw them. Working here has me constantly exhausted and my mental health completely terrible.

They say they promote a positive work environment, but do a lot of things that seem to demonstrate the opposite. They do not care for the overall wellness of their employees. Consistently give tight deadlines on projects and expect more hours than appropriate to be spent on the project to meet those deadlines along with normal day-to-day workloads. Benefits have been gutted to a point that they are almost unaffordable. If you want your family all on one insurance plan, you better only be a one-income household or no benefits will need to be available at your spouse’s place of employment. Worked in a remote position that has changed to a hybrid model without thought or input to the affect on employees’ work-life balance or overall work productivity. 

I worked there as a contracted employee. After beginning, I found out that if a job is posted, internal employees will be interviewed first. The company encourages internal employees to bid on positions to learn as much about the culture as possible. For this reason, you really do not have an advantage if a job is posted, especially if a qualified internal applicant wants the same position.  

The culture is positive, and the employees have a lot of fun together. There is a high expectation on professionalism, strict adherence to procedures, and positive attitude. 

One important note: employees are expected to adhere to a very strict dress code. If you have tattoos, they must be covered up. The reason is that Tattoos draw the attention to the person with the tattoo; instead of the focus remaining on the patient.

Overabundance of communication, teamwork, a feeling of purpose.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Most of the reasons I have are unique to me. Otherwise, the current shortage of employees.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great. Uplifting, encouraging, a sense of belonging. People are extremely willing to help each other out.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I am a receptionist, so it involves tons of answering the phone and checking patients in and out, depending on where I am. I also make outbound calls to patients who have requested appointments or have canceled and sometimes I would call patients to reschedule if necessary.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people I worked with NOT FOR!! I LOVED MY JOB! BUT A LACK OF COMMUNICATION IS HUGE THERE! I FELT LIKE I NEVER WAS HOME AND HAD NO LIFE! THEY CHANGE THE SCHEDULE EVERY DAY WITHOUT NOTICE! I COULD DO EVERY POSITION AND WAS PAYED THE SAME. I WORKED NEXT TO PEOPLE THAT DID 1 POSITION AND GOT PAYED 3$ MORE THERES SOMETHING NOT RIGHT ABOUT THAT. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lack of communication changing of the schedule without notice! Working 100 hours every two weeks and still not being able to pay your bills

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very high stress

My first few years with Bronson were excellent. Great work life balance, fair pay, promised learning opportunities and growth opportunities. Now they've cut Career Pathways, are forcing employees back to the office (despite us actually performing better at home, they told us they expect performance to drop), and pay is stagnant and not matching current inflation, yet they expect us to pay the price for driving to and from the office again. C-Suite doesn't care about employees, and middle management isn't able to help their employees due to restraints from upper management. Bronson also refuses to hire more IT employees despite current IT employees drowning in work.

My position experienced major changes over a brief period of time. Eventually half my position ended, and only one of my managers even cared that I could be cut to part-time and lose my health insurance. Also, they don't operate their review system properly. An HR professional told me that you should never be surprised by anything in your review if things are managed properly, but the only time I ever heard criticism was in the formal review. Very unsettling.

The smaller hospitals like Bronson South Haven and Paw Paw are much more enjoyable to work at. Bronson Methodist is just filled with people throwing others under the bus to try and get ahead. Not ONE person has been asked "What can I do to help you succeed" Directors and Managers would rather fire you than actually look for a solution to make the workplace better or take responsibility themselves. This comes from a person that still works here, but not for long.
