If you are someone that wants to relax and just collect a small paycheck every 2 weeks then this is the place for you.  If you are someone with ambition, integrity, and respect yourself then stay away from Byline Bank.  It is rare to find anyone in senior management or back office that is useful in any way.  Most pass the buck and either don't know how to help or just don't want to help.  You will basically be left to figure things out yourself because no one knows what the right answer is.  It's an extremely frustrating place to work and you just feel awful for the clients that have to deal with this "organization".

They will paint a picture that they are growing and there is opportunity to advance.  This is false.  If you are a lower level employee in a branch then you do have some opportunity because it seems they mostly promote employees that have a lower salary.  They often neglect to even invite branch managers to interview.

Branch life can be enjoyable if you just build a friendly team and are fine being left alone and not bothered.  It only becomes stressful when clueless regional managers decided to actually do their job and do what they think is helping.  That being said they will rarely support you.  They often are difficult to find and get on a phone.  They also like to make up their own rules and rarely even follow the rues they make.

Save your time and sanity and avoid this company.  They have recently closed 16 locations and the CEO has said they plan to close more.

All I can say is that the upper level management doesn’t care about all there  employees and theirs definitely favoritism. They try to implement procedures they THINK work with customers because they don’t have to deal with them directly. The so called Customer Solutions department is really just a fancy name for switchboard. None of the employees there actually attempt to find a solution to customer  issues, all they do is send calls to any location that’s able to answer the phones (and that’s IF the branch isn’t understaffed and that’s a whole other issue in itself). Many of the employees that work with back office have HORRIBLE attitudes and are terribly CONDESCENDING, especially the older employees. The pay is not too bad, but could be better. Oh and let’s not forget about the fact that your pay is twice a month, not bi-weekly, TWICE A MONTH. Overall, think twice about taking a job here, it has it’s perks, but some aren’t even worth the stress.

The hr and management avoid questions of concerns and never call back or reply. my manager would never reply to my emails and messages during my time with the bank. The manager changes the time record for assistant manager and assistant manager was always late at the Armitage Branch. Bank would usually open late in morning and not follow opening procedures. A typical day at work would be manager shouting infront of the customer if the teller made an error. Since bank branch is a small bank one can easily hear everything. Management did not provide a clean break room. Management would openly talk about write ups and termination infront of everyone and customers. they had no sense of privacy to answer to any concerns. to get answers I would usually talk to hr and they would make manager follow rules. This job is Ideal for making minimum wage.

I cannot possibly articulate all of the reasons that this is one of the worst employers in the Chicagoland area. The CEO is a total introvert that cannot string together two sentences in public. The CEO and CFO effectively run the entire bank and pay little to no attention to the input of other subject matter experts in the organization. The leader of Human Resources is aloof, out of touch and afraid to challenge the CEO/CFO on any decisions of import. The product offerings are substandard, which is fine since this is a community bank, but there is no internal recognition of the inherent short comings of the product line. The is plenty of talk about the culture but no actual implementation of any tangible programs to create, promote or build a culture. Compensation is significantly below market and internal talent is not rewarded for commitment or longevity. DO NOT WORK HERE! You're better than Byline.

Training is inadequate, leaving staff unprepared for complex tasks, and career advancement is limited, with high turnover due to low pay and lack of resources. While some appreciate supportive coworkers and community engagement, the overwhelming workload, minimal work-life balance, and cliquey environment detract from the experience. Byline’s old-school approach and inconsistent policy enforcement frustrate employees, making the job feel underappreciated and stressful, despite occasional perks like flexible hours or free lunches.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My direct  manager was absolutely  wonderful. He was knowledgeable  and advocated  tirelessly for our team. He has since left as well.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with internal  partners, within  the same line of business  who are brazenly unprofessional in their interactions with others and openly disrespectful.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They want to have work life balance, but departments are siloed and duties aren't clearly  defined. They  want to be open to suggestions to optimize policies/ procedures,  however,  employees who have been there a long while openly  push  back and are non compliant without consequences.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy. Be prepared to wear many hats that may seemingly be out of scope in comparison to job description.

A typical day at work felt draining due to poor leadership and a toxic atmosphere. Management was closed minded and often held their positions simply because they had been there for years or knew how to play the politics. There was little direction, and any feedback I gave based on my experience was ignored. Morale was low because people were just there for a paycheck, not because they felt supported or valued. Management sometimes tried to create division between employees instead of building teamwork. The worst part is that district and regional managers knew exactly what was going on and chose not to do anything about it. It was a frustrating and disappointing experience from top to bottom.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Some of the staff/employees. We all became a family because Byline was our 2nd home. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The favoritism. The management not caring about their staff/employees well being, mental health and family life. The unrealistic goals they choose for us to meet. Communication is horrible.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Out of date, very old school. Byline is behind on a lot of technology. Byline is still old fashioned and needs to update their company as a whole.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
High traffic on most days. Some days are busier than most. A lot of business owners and older customers bank with Byline.

It’s such a shame this bank has so much potential and the client and communities it serves are amazing however there is zero training at this bank therefore no branch is consistent nor ever accountable. No one has real bank experience and district managers and specially regional managers have zero interest in the employees. There is zero coaching here and it’s a who is the favorite and who you know culture. So many amazing employees are payed so little and do so much. It’s a flavor of the month focus, no advancement culture. 

The managers I worked with were great. Collaborative and easy to work with. 

I did overheard a couple of conversations involving the president and other executives that were really nauseating. Conversations (between men) were lewd, about female employees.

Also, corporate culture was gross. Execs trying to indoctrinate lower-level employees with weird TTM system (Things That Matter) to get them to think about corporate values above all. The phrase, "Think Like an Owner" was also used a lot around the office, even though employees are only that, not actually "owners." Just a way to keep employees invested in a corporate structure that will never really work for them.
