**CNO Financial Job Review**

**Position:** Paperwork and Scanning Specialist

**Summary:**  
My experience at CNO Financial was marked by significant challenges, both in terms of the work itself and the company culture. While I hope the company has since made improvements, my time there was overwhelmingly stressful and lacked support from management.

**Pros:**
- Occasional company pitch-ins, which were a rare positive aspect of the work environment.

**Cons:**
- **Technical Issues:** The job involved scanning medical and life insurance paperwork, which was often hindered by malfunctioning scanners. Frequent jamming and other technical problems were common, making it difficult to meet strict quotas.
- **High Pressure:** The company enforced strict quotas with little regard for the challenges caused by equipment failures or errors made by others. This created a highly stressful work environment where employees were constantly under pressure.
- **Unsupportive Management:** Management, especially newer leaders, often treated employees as mere numbers rather than people. There was little empathy, and getting on management's good side required "sucking up," which led to a cutthroat atmosphere.
- **Job Security Concerns:** The company had a high turnover rate, particularly during periods of low work volume. Job security was often uncertain, and the way management handled terminations was sometimes harsh and disheartening.
- **Work-Life Balance:** The company had strict attendance policies, and there was little understanding for emergencies or personal health issues. This lack of flexibility made it difficult to manage personal well-being alongside work.

**Overall Experience:**
Working at CNO Financial was a highly stressful experience, particularly for someone with undiagnosed CPTSD and ADHD, which I believe contributed to my struggles. The job was essentially just a paycheck, with little enjoyment or fulfillment. The only truly positive experience was leaving the company for the last time. I hope that the company has since taken feedback seriously and made necessary improvements for the well-being of its employees.

The commission scheule has gone down tremendously on ALL products except for Medicare Supplemental.  2% Commission on Annuity Sales are what you will get from one aged 70-80.  Still only 3% if under Age 70.  The best managers have gone onto other companies and you will not be able to touch even a 401 (k) without a Finacial Advisor present who will expect 50 % of potetnially ALL sales performed in the home, when he had nothing to do with it...other than make it "complient".  Long Term Care Claims have the highest rate of complaints with the CA Department of Insurance and Life Insurance is just not competitive.  The best part of the job was the relationship built with the clients but they became harder to make clients with an ever decreasing product portfolio.  Management promotions were no longer based on performance, rather who was owed a favor and those that challenged management to be ethical find themselves retaliated against and without leads or support.  HR is impossible to get a hold of and sexual harassment has run rampant.  Overall, this company is a tarnished liability to work for and smart potential clients will know this as well due to search engines that reveal the numerous consumer complaints...and that will costy you chargebacks and business.  No insurance company is currently a greater liability to work for than Bankers.  They have been reactive, not proactive in becoming complient and it will take decades for them to recover.

•	Created Custom profiles, page layouts, users, record types and Custom Objects to meet business guidelines 
•	Created data mapping for integrating various systems in salesforce.com 
•	Prepared Business requirements documents (BRD) and used Requisite Pro to manage analyze and convert business requirements into functional specifications 
•	Conducted JAD sessions with stakeholders and system users to collect the functional requirement specifications 
•	Proficient creating custom user interfaces with Visualforce, developing custom business logic in APEX, writing test classes 
•	Used Salesforce.com developer toolkit including Apex Classes, Controllers and Triggers, Visual force, Force.com IDE, Migration Tool, Web Services API 
•	Implemented and Created Workflows, approval process and business 
•	Customizing communication templates, Security & Access Controls and Company Profile as per requirements of the Organization 
•	Involved as Salesforce.com administrator, which involves customization, support and setup with the use of technologies such as Java/J2EE and XML. SOAP, WSDL.

This is not a true Sales job. The environment is micro-managed by the supervisors. There is no commission incentive for the first 90 days. Once you become incentive eligible the structure is not enough to support a family. As a sales person you're expected to live off the base pay of $15.10/ hr or to work excessive hours of overtime. 

The attendance policy is a joke. The company gives good PTO and vacation time, however you're made to feel bad about taking days off. Once you've run out of PTO or vacation time, you're put on a performance plan which then makes you NOT incentive eligible. Even if you have PTO time and get sick and need to leave for the remainder of the day, you're penalized or threatened a performance plan.

The environment is so micro-managed that management watches the production and tell you if you went over break by 1 or 2 minutes that you're stealing company time! Even if you have an authorized reason. This creates a stressful environment. The morale was extremely low. You're penalized for not wanting to participate in team lunches.

As with a majority of mostly great things there are almost always things that fall through the cracks somewhere. CNO is a fantastic place to work, especially if you're a hard worker. I have, however, noticed that some of the MGMT within the company can base their hiring decisions on things that are less than admirable. Things like who their favorite so and so is instead of who would best match the role up for grabs. And the hard workers can become favorites, however, that's not a safe space either necessarily. Some MGMT thinks it's acceptable to overload certain employees with responsibilities that should not fall on them. (Things that people 1-2 positions ahead of their current position are capable of doing and should be doing but either are not or cannot complete due to their own over-packed workloads).I would recommend CNO to people who are up for the challenge of possibly being asked to do things that are well above even the 'above and beyond' some employees expect to give to their employers already.

Handle incoming calls from policyholders, respond to inquiries, resolve problems and correct policy errors, Generate partial withdrawal and loan quotes to customers and verify their accuracy, Resolve an average of 100 inquiries in any given week and consistently meet performance benchmarks in all areas, customer issues to prevent calls from being escalated to a supervisor or manager, Perform outbound follow up calls to resolve customer issues that couldn't be addressed immediately, Participate in team forums to improve overall quality within the call center and presented unique ideas to the group to resolve reoccurring issues, Manage daily work queues and escalate unresolved items as needed, Identify, track, and monitor trends, Ensure paramount service by demonstrating courteous phone etiquette, a professional demeanor, and sympathetic tone, Data entry within Windows and mainframe environments, first point of contact with filling life insurance claims, assist with health policies, research with life and health policies,

In the last three months I have found the culture is great, salary and bonuses are outstanding but you have t work for it. Benefits are awesome, managers care about you and help you to succeed. The training is paid for. by the way, the bonuses i have seen range from $1000 - $6000 dollars per month, plus salary. You have plenty of paid time off, and vacation, 401k, stock purchasing plan, on site gym and medical facility. Management trusts me. That is something I have never heard a manager tell me ever in my life and I am 65 yrs young. Everyone has a chance, no discrimination and I can go on and on. I am currently working from home and enjoy it. My wife is ill and needs me to help. Management understands. So far, this is the best company i have ever worked for! After a long disability due t a hereditary kidney disease and dialysis and finally a transplant, they have given me another chance to prove myself.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I enjoyed talking to the talking to the customers and my supervisor was ok .

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Meeting the sales goal when it during their slow season. And having a supervisor that could be very passive  aggressive  when trying to get her way.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They try to promote a healthy  work life balance.  But when it's peak season it all about putting in hours for overtime and making high numbers  on old leads. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
By 9am I would start calling  new customers and by 11am I would be calling existing customer telling to upgrade their current  policies. As an employee their you need to be good with setting your own goals.  Especially  when it off peak times.  Because the leads we are calling  have already been called by others.

typical day at work is spent chained to your desk wearing a phone headset. Very strict about breaks. 2... 15 min breaks and 1/2 hr lunch.
It is frowned upon to even leave your desk for a cup of coffee or to go to the bathroom

I actually learned a lot.

co workers are fantastic however very low morale -revolving door

Hardest part of the job was being micromanaged, it makes employees feel as if they are under a microscope,  Meeting sales goal is possible, however it takes about 4 months to get trained to be able to answer incoming sales calls
Bonus structure is NOT worth the headache.. it is very confusing and for a sales job the amount of bonus is a joke,

Formerly this company was known as CONSECO which  consisted of several insurance companies under one umbrella.

As Conseco sold off some bad or unsuccessful business, they streamlined their concerns to just a few insurance companies such as Banker's Life, Washington National and Colonial Penn.

My efforts started back in 1999 working in the Information Technology tape library supporting the continuance of operations during the transformation period.

In 2002 I was transferred to the Records division of the company where I trained for and performed the duties as a Document Specialist II until Conseco became CNO Financial.

During my years with this company I enjoyed the friendships I made with many hard working people and some who will be dear to me forever!
