Very busy and overwhelming,  however, days go fast and always opportunity to work at different locations.   I worked during covid so it was definitely overload of patients.   Private family owned which I liked and they do care about employees.   You need to be a self starter, and learn quickly however the new systems they put in place help you but you need to learn the new systems.  You have your good and bad with all jobs..that's the medical field!  I did my job and went home!  I was in an accident and had to quit however I would recommend this place if you are serious about working.   They pay according to experience.   I did see a few employees that were set in their ways and I felt as a person with previous mgmt experience they were not wanting to learn the new systems and had been using the company.  They don't realize there is a lot of competition out there and time is everything and WE are all replaceable.  That's why they were working for less money. Their work ethics would not have been accepted at any major hospital.   Like I said,  set in their ways and it brings the moral down in the unit as a whole.  However, they were working on that when I left.  You have to be able to adapt in the medical field and work with all personality types!  Overall,  it was a great place to work.

No one at CareFirst has the experience needed in order to run a company. They could care less about their staff, patients, or community. The main object is money. There has been several times where staff was terminated or laid off due to the inability to pay them, but money would continue to be spent on things like new locations. The management is unexperienced and almost all of them have never had any sort of leadership role or let alone a real job. This all trickles down to the provider staff. They are not given the tools necessary to be successful and if brought to the attention of a medical board would be flagged. Providers are tasked with doing everything if the other associates call off or are not scheduled, which once again stems from inexperienced management. At no facility would you see a physician working the front desk because there wasn't one scheduled. The only time a review or feedback is provided is when they receive a patient complaint. There is no room for growth at this organization and if you want to always be worried you may lose your job for doing the right thing then this place is for you. If management concentrated on understanding why employees stay, then they can act to reinforce the right reasons and stop reinforcing the wrong reasons.

I really recommend you RUN from this company. Seriously. They will hire anybody and that’s not good. There is no drug test. No background check. No reference check. Just verification that you have a license and are certified, and that’s only for providers. Three days of UNPAID “orientation” then you are the solo practitioner with two MAs (if you’re lucky). Management is spotty at best. Some have experience, some don’t, and their experience doesn’t always have anything to do with the medical field. You may have the tools and supplies you need, you may not. You are expected to see and bill every patient that walks through the doors, and you’re to check them in up until closing time no matter how many people are already there. It’s certainly not fair to the providers, staff, or the patients to put this much stress on employees. You really don’t matter as an employee. They don’t care if you are sick or if you have car trouble, it’s expected that you show up. The turnover is super high for a reason. You may be tempted to take the job because of money or because you’re just wanting to move on in your career, but do yourself a favor, DON’T. Be patient and a much better opportunity with a company that actually cares about you WILL come along.

This company seems like they have it together in the beginning, but will let you down repeatedly over time.
Communication is great in the beginning then your boss might as well be non existent. They make promises they cannot and do not keep. 
Their clinical expectations and practices are highly questionable. They will hire any staff right off the street with zero health care experience and expect the provider to train them. They do not carry oxygen and will not supply it for the patients. Getting supplies to do your job, is nearly impossible, such as gloves, masks, needles, syringes, otoscope covers, etc. 
They have very few admin to cover over 40 clinics and it shows. 
There is ZERO support or communication from staff. 
There is zero opportunity for growth or raises, and they do not see any issues with the way they run the company.
It’s not a good place for new grads. But if you have experience in urgent care it can be easy but you will be ON YOUR OWN. 
Also. You are salaried, so if you have to stay after your 12 hour shift you don’t get paid. And patient’s will come in late, sometimes leaving you to be there for over an hour.
Also, if your staff doesn’t show up, they expect you to run the clinic anyways, completely by yourself. 
It’s a huge safety issue.

Just don’t do it.


A typical day is working 12 hr days 3 days a week. If u have covid or the flu u are expected to come to work. It doesn't matter if ur spreading ur germs to others. There will be only 1 provider, 1 MA, and 1 receptionist to see see about 80 people in the busy season. They hire anyone and everyone just to have a body in the office. No certifications needed. No training hardly at all. Someone will be called an MA and never went to school for it and they are the same people drawing blood and giving injections. Upper mgmt is all family and best friends. There is no one u can go to regarding work issues because of this. No holiday pay, have to fight for a raise that u have earned, benefits are outrageous . This is a work place pretending to be a medical office but it's not. They don't want to give u the proper equipment needed to do ur job. The turnover rate is very high due to poor mgmt, low benefits and employees not being trained properly or even being treated properly.  It would've been nice to eat lunch at a lunch time instead of a bite in between sick patients.

There is nothing good about the company other than being easily hired as a new grad, and if you are in for the experience, start looking for a new job as soon as you get hired because you will not last long. You start on your own after 3 days of unpaid training. Essentially no benefits, no 401K until 1 year hire (have barely met anyone who has been there longer than 6 months). Being asked to cover shifts on many of your days off (including during vacation that you have requested off 45 days in advance). Guilt tripped to work when you are sick with COVID, Flu, and practically anything, unless you are hospitalized. Turn over of management is almost every month. No allotted lunch time. You will take all patients until 8pm even if 10 people walk in at 759p. Will not give you staff if you are at a slow location, so you will work as a front desk or MA (or a sole provider running the place). No performance reviews (aka raise) unless you ask for it. Unpaid maternity leave. Be very careful when signing contracts, as it is ridiculous. Honestly, I don't know how this unsafe place is still in business. 

CareFirst Urgent Care is an amazing place to work and I would recommend it to everyone. You are treated with respect and are able to achieve a great work-life balance with your schedule. The management is very caring and definitely has an open door policy as you can feel comfortable about voicing your concerns and coming to them with anything you need. This is the first place I have worked for that I actually feel listened to and genuinely feel that my opinions matter. The company is very understanding and will work with you in any way that they can. My co-workers are absolutely wonderful and make the job even better. With this company there are many opportunities for job advancement. CareFirst always lets current employees apply for open positions within the company which is awesome. Raises are based on work performance and are very generous compared to other companies I have worked before. Overall, this is a great company to work for and I plan on staying for the long haul!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Front office staff and providers do not follow policies that require accurate billing practices
Documentation is always lacking to send a clean claim
Front office staff can not understand the process of collecting insurance/self pay/photo IDs/collect co pays! 
Clinical staff is very incompetent 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You are never spoken to, informed of important policies
No one checks productivity in the Billing Department, only if the owner asks “why”
That is few and far between 
Just a depression atmosphere all around 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fixing the clinical staffs mistakes
Patients calling for reasons that could be addressed on the patient portal 
Patients, like the clinical staff, very uneducated about insurance and insurance processes

Management is terrible, there is no communication, very shady, they do not  value or care about their employees at all.Very high turn over rate with employees and management, can't keep an HR rep or chief of operations for more than 3 months at a time, everyone quits or walks out. I can't begin to tell you how big of a fraud this company actually is. The job itself was enjoyable for the most part,(minus during covid it was he**!!) I liked my co workers, but the management made it hard to want to stay because they are so shady and unprofessional. I could go on and on and on about the negative things, but I am not even wasting my time and energy! The only positive thing is I am out of there and got a way better job, higher pay, good benefits, in a nice environment with management who are professional, sincere,and actually care! If you decide to work for this company let me tell you within 2 weeks or less you'll see how they are! Everyone does! Good luck!

Management does not care about you or your well- being. There is no orientation and you only get paid half of your pay during orientation. It is difficult to get anything from management. Management has no problem scheduling you to work five 12-hour shifts in a row or any given week. Their contract says you will work a minimum of 84 hours per pay period at their discretion, meaning they will schedule you 5 days a week because everyone keeps quitting. They require a 90 day termination notice or you are fined a hefty sum. People usually submit their notice within two weeks of starting work. You will have excessive problems getting paid. It takes forever. There is no support. After 3 days of orientation, paid at 1/2 your rate, it’s all yours, no help, no paid service like Epocrates. They say they pay your malpractice insurance but they don’t. You have worked too hard for your license, don’t lose it because of them. They. Do. Not. Care.
