Your time may well be 16 PLUS hours a day, you must also make it to each weekly nursing meeting plus any other "needed" meetings weekly for that month. You need to get all your patients seen, be on an 0800 call and a 1600 call for reports of the night/day. Policy, or rules, change as quickly as the wind might change. What is the acceptable rule one day, is not the next, this happens regularly. The employee is seen in the worst light possible and is easily accused of not wanting to do the job. If you don't get 8 hrs off for sleep or tend any family/home concerns, too bad for you. Sadly, just prior to being FIRED for the first time in my life, many HHA felt comfortable approaching me and confiding how they dreaded going into the office for the way they would be spoken to or treated, I would listen, I understood but could say nothing, as I had already had too many false stories "shared" about me, and had palpated a culture of fear among most others. You could trust no one, smile and nod, try to encourage. Stunned when fired, felt i had been very honest about my job and interactions; but if Management is willing to "stretch" the truth in one area, Management will "stretch" the truth in another, for Management's ends. Best of luck to those who work in such environment. Best of luck obtaining that Malcolm Baldrige Award the way and reasons Caris fires people. Might be a bit hungry right now, not working, but have had a tremendous sense of relief! Kind of like a "Good Divorce"!

Worked here for 7 yrs.  Saw them go from a great hospice for patient care to a micro managing, number driven company just striving to get a Baldridge award.  Instead of focusing on the issues with staff shortages, training and communication they decide to add new operating procedures to all disciplines and change them monthly. Once new processes are added, they do not add any extra staff to assist but hold you to the same expectations.  If you ask for help, they tell you to get it done and with no overtime.  Local branches have great compassionate employees but support center (corporate) will be vry out of touch with branch office and their employee and patient needs. Every change is focused on winning a baldridge award at ANY cost.  The worst is when a co worker passes away on work time and when branch office goes to order funeral flowers to send from company, the CEO denies reimbursment from petty cash (even though numerous flower arrangements had been ordered for other staff during births/sickness).  If you can't find another hospice to provide excellent hospice care to patients with then try switching fields before applying here. 

I have been a RN for many years and have over a 15 years of home health and hospice experience for 5 different companies. Caris certainly stood out from the rest. To say they micro manage is an understatement. They seem to be so worried about making money that treatment of field staff AND patients suffer. Caris makes a REALLY big deal about admitting indigent patients, but everywhere else I ever worked did this also- and to a greater degree than Caris without all of the back patting on themselves that Caris does. The documentation process was not streamlined or efficient. Instead of collaborating, my clinical judgment was questioned constantly. If I wasn't confident in my skills, this would have made me feel inadequate, but I'm a good nurse so I would stand up to what I know were ridiculous requests and decisions from management. When someone works out in the field, there has to be trust and support from the office. Both were sorely lacking at Caris. I wouldn't go back there if I was offered a $150,000 salary. With all of the cutting of corners, treatment of staff, admitting questionable patients, and poor documentation, I don't think this company will be around in ten years.

Caris Healthcare, in the Nashville Market, used to mean working for the best hospice company in Davidson/Williamson counties. It's now synonymous with working poor leadership. Regional leadership shifted from compassionate, thoughtful, and supportive to overbearing, ineffectual, and unwilling to work outside of the box. Caris repeatedly failed to base their support for clinical staff by not making swifter decisions to scale growth from the marketing team. This means that anyone that comes on full-time in the role of an RN/LPN/HA can expect to have an unreasonable caseload with impossible/redundant documentation that takes away from patient time. The only way to achieve work-life balance at Caris as a clinical provider is to work hourly. Do not work for this company unless you're being paid hourly. You will never work less than 50 hours a week and you will have to take call during the week and over the weekends whenever there are staffing changes. 

I have worked as a case manager nurse for over 20 years. Never have I been expected to perform excessive  duties so that it interferes with my ability to perform my required nursing duties responsible to the patient.  I am required to be an admission nurse, training specialist, facility nurse, home health care nurse and nightly on call back up nurse.  In addition, there is no logic in their management style of assigning nurses to patients - random patients, random locations, running around putting fires out.  The Nashville office is so understaffed that the daily scheduler apologizes in advance of the daily scheduling of the nurses, that their patient load is excessive and it will be a chaotic day. Also, the nurses are expected to initiate the prescription order process with little or no oversight from our Medical Director as he oversees over 400 patients.  He doesn't have time to perform his required duties as MD.  They work you to death as the nurses are on salary - its better to be hourly and protected by Labor laws. Management gets holidays off, nurses have no paid holiday time.

Excellent and professional place to work. Company committed to being a world class hospice.Company provided excellent support for their employees in many different ways. Words of encouragement, yearly bonuses, just to name a few. My professional nursing skills were increased during my time with the company. Performing admissions and re-evaluations of patients are new skills that can now be added to my knowledge base. Admissions was the hardest part of the job but they became easier the more I did them. My administrator was instrumental in assisting with my training for admissions; she was very patient and understanding while training me. My co-workers were all excellent to work along side. Making a positive difference in the lives that I came in contact with, be it my patients' and/or their families; sometimes it would be my co-workers, this was the most enjoyable part of the job.

Management does not care about its employees. Office managers micromanage their employees and are more worried about meeting their corporate goals than properly running this office. This office is severely understaffed. The job training at this company is inadequate. The pay is low, and the benefits are a joke. They advertise having tuition reimbursement, but the reimbursement comes from the dental plan they offer.  Management wants you to be a salesman and sell this cheesy company to potential hospice patients. Management enjoys admonishing their employees, and they have a high turnover rate because they have a reputation of being weird.  Even if you are taking care of a patient, management expects you to drop everything to log onto the never ending, redundant daily Microsoft team meetings that you are forced to endure.   

Before coming to Caris, I had previous hospice experience. I've worked in several different areas of medical social work including home care, long term care, independent living, and inpatient setting. I have worked for very large corporations that have nowhere near the structure, supoort, clear communication, and guidance from leadership that Caris has. They truly stand on their core values and deliver world class hospice care with grace and compassion. There is a marked difference in the care they deliver versus other hospice competitors. I feel 100% supported by my office team and regional leadership. Caris is a very special conpany and I'm proud to work here. 

Caris Healthcare truly is an exceptional place to work. While we have a main support center, our smaller branch offices create an environment that feels personal and close-knit—more like a family-run organization than a large corporate company.

when I first started here it was excellent!! I loved being able to spend more time with patients, rather than the in and out like a nursing home/hospital. now however, things have drastically changed. instead of having 5-6 patients a day, were expected to see 7+ and actually take a lunch break. what I want to know is when are we supposed to take a break? the conference calls are ridiculous. pcps do not do their job, and are of no help what-so-ever. and our administrator has lied not only to fellow employees but to families as well. gifts are not being taken seriously and/or addressed. this company kicked their own butt by terminating one of the best employees they had. work is no longer enjoyable. its complete hell. I cannot wait to find something "bigger and better".
