I got this job during my second to last quarter of high school. It was always pretty difficult, with it being a little fast paced most times because of the nature of the job, and the pay was pretty okay as a first job, and most if not all residents you talk to are nice but it will depend on your location. Unfortunately that's where the positives stop, there were so many things out of our control that would frustrate the residents and then would make the overall vibe of the dining room really pressure heavy and just bleh. This didn't happen much at first but we started continuously running out of very essential things every week and that was just irritating for us and for the residents we're tasked to serve. 

Coworkers were mostly great, but all it takes is one being slow and it could mess up everyone's day, wasn't much of a social place but thankfully I wasn't much of a social person. Also there was almost always a coworker late or a coworker that just doesn't show up every day. So accountability was almost nonexistent.

Our manager was was honestly really chill, but sometimes a little too chill, and some of my coworkers got away with a lot of things they shouldn't have.

Also had a whole situation where I tested positive for Covid, and that was really a big mess, instead of the usual week or 2, I couldn't work for nearly a month because information wasn't getting to managers quickly enough. 

The pay is great if you're a high school teen like I was, but other than that, pay never really goes up from minimum (here it was 15) unless you get promoted to shift leader, which was rare, and shift leaders only made about a dollar more which is kinda messed up. 

I will say though that the schedule flexibility was really good, you can essentially pick and choose when you want to work, and that helped immensely when I was in high school. 

Hardest part of the job was definitely the first hour or 2 of each breakfast,lunch, or dinner time. Dinner time (4-6:30) was almost always busy and sometimes rough.

Easiest part of the job was working morning shifts as you get off relatively early in the day and morning shifts are typically less busy and overall more chill. 

As a new employee, I didn't pay attention when the personnel from the corporate level were termed. Corporate had "restructured" people's rolls. 

As the years progressed, the work environment and culture became toxic in the community that I worked in. I noticed a great turnover in staff throughout the years. I thought to myself, my coworker just moved on but kept on hearing these staff were applying to other assisted living communities in the same line of work. When one got a job in a competitor company, then a handful were asking to give "a good word" so they, too, can get a job in that company. 

When the resident survey and an anonymous employee survey came out. By accident, the employees were given copies of the results and it spread throughout the community. A very bad review was given to a couple of the long term upper management. How is it possible to receive such reviews called out by name and still have a job? The following year's employee survey, hardly any employee including myself completed the survey, due to retaliation or the thought of whatever I put down, nothing is going to improve. Those same long-term upper management will still be there, doing the same things and acting the same way year after year. So why bother.

Then it finally hit me when multiple managers gave their notice or were let go including an Executive Director or two. Now they couldn't even keep their managers. You didn't know if you were next of the chopping block. You then start to hear from directors, "they did a bad job" "they did something wrong" "they were too green in their position.". How many times can you believe when someone's at fault or did a bad job?   

Unstable, cut-throat, stressful due to poor management

There were more cons than pros. 
Pros - free lunches. Now that's pretty sad.

I used to work in the Sacramento Enhanced facility as a caregiver.
 
There are so many complaints and concerns I have for this place. I'll try and get them all down.

Firstly, the facility comes off as a community based and social facility, not a medical facility. It's not the same as a nursing home. Or so they say, BUT the majority of the residents that live there are hospice and need special care. More than half of the caregiver staff are not trained, certified nurse assistants. They learn on the job. As a CNA myself, I felt like the resident's quality of life was poor due to poor quality staffing. They just want money.

Secondly, which also ties into the poor quality of staffing, is the lack of discipline management and administration has for reprimanding employees. When I worked NOC, I would have little to no complaints from the morning staff or even residents. When I would come back from my days off, there were always a plethora of complaints, in-house services, and problems. We all knew who the complaints and problems were addressed to BUT instead of talking one-on-one with the employee, they would talk to the whole NOC shift crew as if it was all our fault when it was just one person. There were documentation, emails, and texts about how multiple employees felt like they had to do extra work because of that one employee.

That person was never properly spoken to or disciplined. Rather, they were given a raise and favored by all of management?? It baffled me how they treated that one person so well when they had the worst reputation from residents and family members. 

Don't waste your time working here. Management and Administration don't care about you or the residents.

I love my Job at the Carlton Senior Living! I work with supportive colleagues who make me smile. I work in an area that interests me and inspires me to learn. When you are fairly compensated for your work, you will feel valued by your employer. Good employers understand the importance of giving their employees regular raises and, if applicable, bonuses. They know that when an employee takes on more responsibility, they deserve to be compensated.

In this job I learn about how alzheimer/dementia is. How the residents acts or the steps to knowing that they are getting to a certain stages. In memory care, there are some days that the residents are agitated, have anxiety or an emotional breakdown. And some days they are not. 

Every seasons the building will be decorated with all sorts of things. Since valentine is coming up, I notice that the rooms in Memory cares door have pink/red hearts. 

The hardest part about this job is knowing that the residents won't remember us(workers). The worst is when they no longer live there. Its either because they found another home care or they left.

I love to see the residents when they come down to the dinning room to eat. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its sad not to see them to come down. Because they are either sick or don't feel well or just feel like eating. Even if I know that I still feel sad that they are not downstair. But as a waitstaff I get to go check on them when they don't come down to eat. I love how we have events or bunches. I get to see the residents with all sorts of food that they can only eat onces in awhile. I like to see their big smile when they see the big portions of food on their plates. Even I know they might not finish it, I still give them a big portions.

Beautiful company inside & out, but turnover is super high! They throw you in with little to no training, expecting you to know the job within a few days. They basically threaten to fire you if you don't get it down as well. They make you feel extremely stupid if you ask any questions, while trying to adjust a new environment. You have to be a self learner for sure! It is no wonder why they go through so many workers. Management claims to have your back, but in reality they are only concerned about themselves. Two managers of another department walked out within the same week, hmm I wonder why, the insane amount of pressure on a given person within their first week, especially without training, is way too much! A majority of the food service team here is dis-respectful, excluding one person. They have their "clicks" and if you are not in that click no respect is given to you. I have never had to leave a company so fast due to a toxic environment & dealing with childish workers who can care less about providing proper care to residents and working as a team! Unless you know absolutely everything & enjoy being thrown in the fire, this place is not for you. If you do like that, maybe it could work out, but it was not something I could deal with for sure! 

I have had the genuine pleasure of being a part of the Carlton Senior Living family for 6 years now. Throughout this time I have been encouraged and supported in my efforts to promote within the company to continue towards enhancing my abilities to love, honor and provide for our amazing residents. Both the Carlton Senior Living community management and corporate team have motivated me towards achieving success in my various roles which have allowed me to better myself as a professional and individual. It  has been within this growth that I have been able to follow my true passion to serve our amazing residents and their families. There is no possible way to put into words the contentment and satisfaction I feel waking up to head into work each day. Although I may be a small part of our resident's journey, the gift they give back to me by allowing me to join this journey is irreplaceable and one I cherish. Carlton is a wonderful place to work, they have become my second family and I could not imagine working anywhere else!

The residents are AWESOME. That’s probably the only thing that is best about this place. The company under pay employees, and is all about FAVORITISM. All management gossip, including HR. If there is gossip is about you, they will use that against you in your “raise review”.  Management shows no respect towards any other department employees. Everyone who is in management, literally “ fakes it til they make it” . It’s not based on how good their work ethics are, it’s just how well they kiss butt, even though they are lazy. 

Hard workers are not recognized enough, there’s a high turnover rate because employees are not cared for enough. And can you guess why? MANAGEMENT. 
There’s no advancing in the company unless management likes you. If they don’t like you or don’t know you, you won’t get a chance at a higher or different position.

Bottom line, management needs to change and not pick people based on “friendship”. I’ve known ALOT of past good workers left the company due to petty gossip and management. And then management have the audacity to higher back on ex employees who were fired for a reason. 

I’m glad I left for better things, but only thing I miss there, are the residents.

This company seemed like an amazing place to work at after I got referred in. However, once I met management, that all changed. It was clear that I was the least liked employee, even after people were being hired after me. My boss would let some get way away with stuff that others had no chance at. Being around management that doesn't care about you really makes it hard to stay motivated to go into work. The only thing that kept me going back were the residents. However, after being put on call, it has now been 3 months and I have been completely taken off the schedule due to my boss's personal problems with me. I will not be returning to this company nor would I ever recommend anyone work there. The staff (including my boss) would be so rude and inconsiderate towards the residents when that should be their main concern. Sometimes they don't even treat them as people. My boss especially would treat the residents horribly. She would act as if they weren't allowed a chance to speak up and be heard. Many residents have also complained specifically about my boss. 

Although Carlton looks nice on the outside, management at the downtown pleasant hill location treats its employees with absolute zero respect. They over work you by having you complete tasks that are not in your department/skill level (they have caregivers passing out meds and med techs doing care), management abuses their power to intimidate employees by making claims to fire you for not coming in (DESPITE following call off procedures) and have made threats to not pay their employees,  and Memory care unit is completely neglected by management. Residents in memory care DO NOT get treated with the same respect as Assisted Living residents. While assisted living dining room and living room have been remodeled and updated, memory care residents are sitting on hand me down couches with molded carpet that has been there for 9+ years. EMPLOYEES ARE NOT ROBOTS, but if you are applying here, expect to be treated like one
