The main difference in working at Carmel Manor vs. other long term care and rehab settings is its mission. It is more than a job or a career at Carmel Manor; it is a ministry. Although it is a vitally important and needed field, caring for elders is not an easy job and can be thankless at times. However, with the Christ-centered care and compassion, the difference truly is love at Carmel Manor. This is love for the residents, love for their families and love for fellow employees and ultimately, love for God who guides the care and the direction of this facility.  I have been employed by Carmel Manor for almost 21 years and have worked in multiple facilities in the same capacity. However, this is the only place that I have felt that I am part of a family. We love the residents like they are our own family members. We care about our fellow employees and I have personally been part of many endeavors to help fellow employees who have come upon hard times. We as a facility have been through some difficult times recently with the pandemic and other challenges. However, I believe in the mission and the leadership at Carmel Manor.  I know that I am care for and supported by the leadership. 

This place is absolutely TERRIBLE. State has been here for WEEKS. Last I heard was we have 6 j tags currently. People are DYING with no end in sight  they are firing all upper management and getting new because they have absolutely no control of this building or the situation. They have these “friendly” nurses who sit on the units and tell the workers what we should be doing instead of helping or attempting to make any  type of difference  they are ALWAYS short staffed because they want to save any penny they can instead of ensure patient safety and avoid staff being overworked to prevent mistakes. The nuns that run this place should be ASHAMED of themselves because they are absolutely AWFUL and I horrible representation for the carmelite sisters! The majority of their “staff” is agency and they have been “doing away” with agency for atleast 6 years. I would NEVER send my family here let alone advise anyone to work here. I finished up my last shift there today and I will NEVER go back. The management wants wants wants but does absolutely NOTHING to make it better. The staff suffers and most importantly the patients. Instead of management offering help they watch their nurses have 30-50 patients ALONE as well as keys for multiple other units. It’s sick!! Run away!

I used to love working at Carmel Manor. When the Sister was the administrator, it truly felt like a place grounded in care, compassion, and respect — not just for the residents, but for the staff as well. Unfortunately, that has completely changed.

The facility is consistently understaffed, and upper management shows little to no concern for the well-being of the people doing the actual work. Morale has plummeted. Staff are overworked, undervalued, and treated as disposable. Concerns brought to management are often ignored or brushed off, and there is a clear lack of accountability and support.

The only reason many of us stay as long as we do is because of the residents and the dedicated coworkers who show up day after day, despite the chaos. They are truly the heart of the facility and deserve better — just like the staff does.

It’s heartbreaking to see a place that once stood for faith and care fall so far. Carmel Manor has potential, but until there are serious changes in leadership and staffing support, it will continue to be a difficult and toxic place to work.

Carmel Manor is unlike any other place I've worked. With a charitable and compassionate mission, our facility really lives up to its tagline. "The difference is love" and you can see it from the quality of care to the beautiful grounds, from the caring management to the incredible food. I challenge you to find a better meal in any retirement community. In fact, as part of their tour, they offer prospective residents lunch. The kitchen will take care of your belly while the Sisters take care of your heart. 

We learned a lot from a recent visit from the State department, but we cleared our tags, improved our procedures, and were thus especially ready for Covid-19. As a result, our cases remain low - rare for a retirement facility. 

From personal experience, Carmel Manor has shown they care about me, allowing me personal time for doctor's appointments, a budget for professional development, and the freedom to change my schedule to keep that precious work-life balance.

No or little supervision and oversight from what I saw while I was there. Some of the  Workers spend much of their time on the airpods &/or smart phone and not much attending to the Patients, yet no one in Administration nor Nurses  tells them to do otherwise. I overworked, be ase necessary  tasks were not accomplished  for the needs of the Residents. I was bossed around by some of the Nuse Aides & one specific Nurse. 
 I would not feel confident & secure in having my Loved One as a Resident there. 

Over worked and under staffed is being genuinely empathetic towards what I'd really like to tell you about my experience here. The nursing managers and charge nurses are ones who expect not to ever have to help the aides simply because they're nurses. None of them except maybe one or two have a complains care giving none in their bodies. All they care about is passing medication and moving on to the next. The place is always staffed by agency, there's constantly bed alarms, call lights and always someone up your backside telling you what needs to be done. Most of them get really mad if you actually take your breaks because they see so many people work straight through. It's ridiculous and the pay is complete GARBAGE on top of the rest of the insulting situations you'll deal with. I wouldn't place a rabid dog there let alone my family. 

I loved working here. I love everything about this company. The management is awesome, and they actually care about their employees. Your coworkers are all pretty friendly, and there's always someone to talk to on breaks. The clients that you work with are pretty nice to you, and the job that I did was pretty easy. I learned a lot about customer service and interacting with people here, and this is where I learned the majority of my professional skills. 
The hardest part of the job that I had was deadlines. Lots of deadlines, lots of work. 
The most enjoyable part of it was the company over all, because they really cared about you and you can tell.
Benefits are good, pay is good, I definitely recommend them.

The Activities department works tirelessly to offer a variety of events, crafts, and personal interaction opportunities that keep the residents active and entertained. A typical day at work might include crossword puzzles or trivia, table volleyball, bingo, or holiday celebrations, but there is such a myriad of creative offerings that are posted in each residents room on a monthly basis. The best part of the job is in knowing that you are valued by management and that you make a difference. The hardest part of the job is that making a difference takes dedication and hard work, so you may go home tired. The difference is Love.

With a beautiful campus overlooking the Ohio River and terrific facilities, the Carmelite sisters create a homelike environment to carry out their mission for the elderly residents of Northern Kentucky. Having worked in the facility now for 16 years, It gives me a great sense of purpose to help their residents and families to live a more comfortable autumn of their lives. When you come into the facility you can truly feel that the difference is love. Employees and residents share smiles and stories about their lives. The residents, families, employees, and sisters are truly compassionate and care for each other

I’m handicapped and the facility was not set up for a handicapped worker on a nursing floor

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment is very casual and everyone is helpful.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would arrive, check in and go to my unit to get report. After that, either attend meetings, or check on the status of the unit. See if help is needed, assist with passing trays, helping residents.
