Be prepare for a complete storm, yes, the pay is great IF you are allowed to actually make move-ins happen. But after you work here for a while, you won’t actually want to move anyone in if you have a heart at all. Lots of nurse push back because they have enough on their plates already, they don’t really want to care for one more resident. Unnecessary and prolonged shutdowns/quarantines that could have been avoided. Constantly understaffed and low budgets in the most necessary departments. Dining was a joke when I was employed here, terrible food due to a very low per day budget for residents, less if you are a couple. Maintenance was severely understaffed and for the price point they are charging, the outdated decor really needs a facelift. No activities happening. Low morale in general among staff and residents, the only residents who seem content are the ones that are just not all there and the really impressive staff members are not recognized for their efforts or allowed opportunities for advancement. All of the executive level management resigned in the time I was here. Regional team don’t actually care about the seniors; it’s just push push push, sell sell sell. If you bring up the low quality of the community be prepared to be reprimanded and gaslit for that, they say they are working on things but nothing ever actually gets done, they want you to sell at a very high level but if you ask for anything it’s “Rome wasn’t built in a day” attitude. No work life/balance, lots of two-faced, back stabbing, toxicity, confrontation, inappropriate behavior, drama and egos here. The 3 weeks paid vacation seemed to evaporate somehow and be prepared to work holidays and weekends. No time to rest when you can make multiple $1,000 of dollars a month off of a senior! After my experience at Cascade Living I will never work in Senior living again. I was so disgusted and I would never put my loved one in a community like this. 

WG is a terrible place to work for. Under their new management, the people left in charge clearly do not value their passionate and caring caregivers. If you want to work for someone that fails to communicate and get back to your concerns, never explains to you the basic aspects of the job, and only talks to you at their convenience when they need a shift covered, look no further. You will be left to fend for yourself and talking to yourself in you and your boss' message thread because they will never get back to you; and they will dodge your calls repeatedly.

A caregiver is just another body here. They are underpaid and not valued for the extremely hard work they put in. The workplace culture is also full of drama and is extremely cliquey. Favoritism is very strong in this company, and new hires are hazed. Management has no idea how to address concerns with their caregivers in a professional manner. Instead they will yell at you in public and humiliate you. I have seen multiple caregivers leave their shift early, crying and never to come back. It is extremely hard to feel comfortable in their environment as a new caregiver. 

Overall; WG is fortunate enough to have some amazing and caring caregivers that they take for granted. This place has an extremely high turnover rate, and I don't see why they are prided as "one of the best" in Eugene. This place has a lot of potential but is ran by terrible management, leaving caregivers drained and miserable. If you want to be valued for the hard work you put in, do not settle for this place and look elsewhere.


I do feel like I'm being generous with three stars, but I loved the work I did, and I loved the residents that I worked for. It's hard work, but it matters, and I loved my job itself. Working to serve the elderly of your community is genuinely a privilege. Also, Mt. Glen is very home-y! However, the training was genuinely terrible- I've received better training in retail. Unless it has improved, be prepared to do a lot of personal research, and for next to no support from management. Staff is short, so tensions can be high when training new staff, and no one is specifically responsible for training (no dedicated trainers). Taking time off is nearly impossible if that matters to you, and the work culture between management and care staff is not great. I think mgt do the best they can and they're good people, but without enough nurses/ perhaps shift lead positions and higher pay, there's a lot of chaos, and it led to a lot of poor decisions being made with staff, employee disputes, scheduling, etc, that ultimately impacted employee retention. I also feel because care staff were not taken care of that it impacted the care we were able to provide to our residents. Employees are not paid well- and are paid differently/unfairly, so keep that in mind when applying, though this may have changed. 

Overall all over the place.
1.Non stop gossiping coworkers (they talk about the residents there too)
2.hypocrytical behavior
3.Judgy and not so friendly coworker(s), didn't make me feel welcomed at all when I first got there.
4.Training cut down to 5-6 days when it's supposed to be 15 or 16 at least, very rushed.
5.They say they have a very good environment but when they see your struggling they dont ask you legitimately they only care about your performance, get to it chop chop chop, not your mental health and overall well-being which is bs, your mental health should always come first to have a good performance in my opinion. (A small check in would be nice)
6. When I was training with a caregiver who had worked here for a while, the residents would often complain about how rough they are but the Caregiver would dismiss it with a quick "oh sorry" and continue their handling for the residents (Unprofessional and quite rude) (It's called CAREgiving for a reason)
In conclusion, I had many residents who enjoyed my time there and tell me to come back to see them even just to talk, the residents faces/fondness and appreciation made it worth while but just because a caregiver shows up with a smile doesn't mean they are 100% ok and their day is good, and just because they make mistakes doesn't mean you aren't able to help them a little more too...



Caregiving is no easy feat, but what makes it worse is when a community says it is Assisted Living but turns out to be specialized care instead. There is 4 Hoyer residents and several cases of Memory Care Patients in a facility of over 38+ residents, and 3 caregivers on the floor per shift. They keep taking cases where there's not enough care for said person nor give them the right care they need, everything is systematical and does not follow focused care guidelines as taught in Relias training. Some of the Managers in the facility try their best to help out but it is hard when an executive or Corporate only care about money and not the care for the residents. The residents are amazing and I love them but they go as far as to not call for help when they need it due to knowing we are always shorthanded and how overworked the workers are. Activities is kept to a literal bare minimum, there's no stimulation for Residents except Bingo on Weekends, Happy hours once a week. If you're trying to get into caregiving, working at this place gives you the entire spectrum of Caregiving and when you go to an actual Assisted Living, it will become a cakewalk. The hours and pay here is moderate but you can get by if you are comfortable with the bare minimum. 

Residents are the best part of any caregiving job, although, anytime we would report something to management they ignore it until it’s too late and then claim “we didn’t know” every single time. Some are there who need extensive care but they’re so understaffed it’s unreal. Unrealistic expectations are to be done. As a caregiver you are to care for residents, loads on loads of laundry, every single garbage in every room, serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, clean up rooms (because house keepers work 4 hours a day and get 2 rooms done). All that while being the only caregiver for 50+ residents. Fair? If you can’t do all that (because apparently garbages are more important than resident care) you get written up, and scolded at during meetings. Most residents are miserable and hate management, they’re bored and they only offer basic activities (bingo, cookie decor, rides around town etc) They worry more about who isn’t wearing the “proper polo shirt” vs how some residents need extra help that simply 1 person cannot do. 

Not to mention management threatens staff while they’re out smoking “this would be different outside of work” the ED has said on multiple occasions. And to top it off they deny deny deny, then cover their butts. 

In my time at Cascades I had to deal with being pulled into "secret" meetings from other members of my Management Team, have my department micromanaged by another manager when I was out, mismanaged budget by other Management, Care staff allowed to belittle co-workers and TONS of staff being allowed to talk in hateful ways about Residents. All staff are made to feel that they have to work more than 40 hours a week and if they aren't, they are allowed to be chastised by members of the Managements family who work there and eventually you will be targeted and fired if you are not "liked" by those that are "in tight" with Management. The level of unprofessionalism and lack of Corporate actually being involved in properly staffing and running this facility is detrimental to the Residents. As you can see by their huge amount of job openings, Cascades of Grass Valley is always hiring and because of the mismanagement and true lack of compassion and training, it always will be. 

Working with the residents was the most rewarding part of this job, and I gained valuable experience in memory care. A typical day involved assisting residents with activities of daily living, providing emotional support, and ensuring their safety and well-being. Unfortunately, DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. I chose to leave this company due to ongoing concerns with management practices and workplace culture. Staff members were frequently spoken to in a disrespectful and degrading manner, which created a negative work environment and impacted employee morale. Communication from leadership was often unprofessional, and concerns raised by employees were not addressed appropriately.I also observed situations that raised serious concerns regarding compliance with policies and professional standards. I believe employees deserve a respectful, supportive, and accountable workplace, and unfortunately that was not my experience here!

Cascade Living Group is a well-intentioned, but overall inexperienced and under-funded organization.  They were founded about 15 years ago, and the lack of solid establishment shows. Many corporate policies, manuals, and internal documents are rife with errors and inaccuracies.  Under current leadership, it is clear that profit and budget is more important than the quality of resident care, or than employee retention and staff stability. Cascade faces a sad and dismal future without a new/“enlightened” budget and better experienced corporate leadership who can see the light - that resident care along with employee retention and satisfaction is more important than overall profit. You might get lucky and have a great manager or team at your facility, but skip this company unless you are ready for a rocky ride… or at least some ups and downs as they get their act together and grow into something more responsible and sustainable… as far as a senior living provider goes.

Everyone is out to get you; other caregivers, nurses, and management. They don't care if you're having trouble caring for a resident, if you need help they all will happily ignore you and run off to smoke instead. If you are caught by management lifting a person by yourself with equipment that requires two people they will write you up. If you are taking too long to care for a resident they will write you up for neglect of the other residents. They will also try to stick you in positions you are not fully trained for and then make it your fault if something happens. Also, you're not allowed to take breaks other than your meal break unless you're a smoker.

This place has the most toxic work environment I had ever seen in my entire life and didn't last more than two months here before I quit. All of the staff played a huge role in my anxiety and depression and it wasn't longer than 3 months after leaving that I ended up in a mental health facility. Wouldn't be too surprised that I got PTSD from working here.
