I really do enjoy working here. At least in my department, my supervisor is incredibly understanding and flexible with time I need to take for doctors appointments and PTO. They give you opportunities to take courses, earn designations and advance your knowledge of the insurance industry. The benefits are pretty good as well.
They have a lot of company fun time, which I enjoy.
The cons are that it is a company that is pretty behind on technological advances because so many employees are older.
The PTO and sick leave is generous. However, it is designed for the older generation (i.e. people no longer starting families, and starting to get ill with age). So while they give you opportunity to earn a lot of PTO and Sick leave, you have to work there for a long time and not take any of the sick/annual leave for a few years in order to really build it up.


CLIU is the best company I have ever worked for. I have never worked somewhere I felt so valued and appreciated. Every department communicates with eachother so there is consistency from your first day in training to the time you're on the floor. They will allow you to choose & assist you in the direction you want to take your career path and force you to utilize all of your strengths and help you work on any weaknesses. One of my favorite things is they invest in you through LOMA and continuous on the job training. Everyone is truly your team member and will make you feel welcomed. With the high tenure you see throughout the company, you will be assured this is a wonderful career path with the potential to retire.

- Workplace culture: Faith based but not pushy. They want to live the golden rule and show that by the way they treat people

- Hardest part of the job: Not a lot of flexibility to work remotely

- Most enjoyable part of the job: the people

The company has great benefits for their employees and really nice bonus the longer you stay there. Company matching is great too, actually the best I’ve seen thus far. They have somewhat flexible schedule depending what department you work at. Definitely a good work-life balance. 

They do have a sort of military-type environment. You have to follow the chain of command and it’s very strict there. It’s definitely not as easy-going as at some companies. That type of atmosphere did not work for me. That and the supervisor’s acting like a high-school girl who likes to gossip behind your back... 

Overall - I’d definitely recommend this company. Just “watch your six.” ;)

A typical day would be frustrating due to a lack of training and support. It was tough to learn since my supervisor wasn’t available to answer questions. Management could have been more helpful. There were also multiple onboarding issues with HR that felt never ending. Only pro was the early day Fridays (which they implied could change since their work load was so far behind) there was also mandatory overtime due to the increasing workload. Departments don’t communicate leading to double work being completed but deadlines not being met. 

The workload is not enough to maintain a big staff, they prefer to do all their documentation by hand and are not very in tune with the growing electronic age. It is a predominantly female staff, so the office environment is often hostile. they are very religious, but not pushy about making everyone catholic. they do just say prayers before everything. they have people who have been there for close to 30 years, but do not realize it's those same people who drive out new hires.

I took the position with Catholic Life for a couple of reasons: Job Stability and Employee Engagement. Coming from the hospitality industry,  I was impressed by the fact that CLI has never laid anyone off in 122 years (not many companies can say the same). There are dozens of employees that have been with CLI for 15-30+ years. Additionally, there are different activities every month to bring the employees together to have fun. 

The company does not take advantage of current technology to automate a lot of processes, most are done manually and can be delayed if someone is out of the office. Management is very disengaged. Inconsistent and conflicting information provided by supervisors. A lot of pettiness and hostility in workplace with no action taken by HR or management. 

I have been working here for four months now. This is by far the most positive working environment I have ever been in. My leadership supports me and cares about my progress and my job satisfaction. I am always learning something new and encouraged to ask questions as often as possible. 

As a former employee, I can say this is one of the best companies I’ve ever worked for.  Compensation is a combination of a competitive salary, generous time off, work-home balance, and an overall faith based environment.  Each employee is treated like family and performance is measured fairly. 

Definitely recommend Catholic Life Insurance as one of the best companies to work for.
