Where do I start?  Management is out of touch.  They are never around and have no clue that morale is low and employees are unhappy.  Management consists mainly of LVN's.  Very few RN's in this hospital.  Forget about someone having their bachelor's degree.  They have promoted from within, which means lackeys  have been promoted since they will kiss management's behind and do whatever they say.  Our scheduler constantly screws up on our schedules, which causes stress on the employees.

Management encourages employees to snitch on each other which causes bad blood between employees.  Serious matters aren't taken seriously.  Patients have died due to nurses' lack of knowledge and care.  Some nurses bully CNA's and aren't reprimanded or told to stop. 
 
Our liaisons send patients to our hospital that have no business being there.  They are either too sick to be in our hospital which forces us to send them back to the original hospital, or they are too healthy to be in our hospital and should be doing out patient rehab.  We have 95 year old patients who just want to be home relaxing, but they are brought to our rehab hospital.  It's sad to see them forced to do rehab.

We have no way to reach nurses if their call lights are going off.  Most hospitals have pagers or phones for their nurses.  Patients wait far too for nurses/CNA's after they've hit the call light.  Most nurses go by the theory that if it's not their patient, they aren't going to help them. 

 Management only cares about their bonuses.  They call off staff in order to meet budget just so they can get their bonus.  They make sure they get their vacations, but your PTO is used up to make up for being called off.  

Patient care is low on the list of priorities.  Nurse to patient ratio is ridiculous.

Benefits are horrific.  The worst I've ever seen.  They don't match your 401K.  Medical insurance is expensive and not worth buying.

During a typical day, I would observe a licensed occupational therapist. Most mornings started with helping the occupational therapist while she assisted her patients in daily routines, such as toileting, getting dressed, etc. For the rest of the day I would assist/observe in various therapy sessions with a myriad of different patients, each with unique challenges and personalities.

The other members of the staff were very welcoming and genuinely wanted to help me learn as much as I possibly could while there. The upper management was also very accommodating with letting me decide the hours I could come in and observe; they were willing to work around my class schedule, at the time.  

The most difficult part of this experience was handling the patients who did not want to be in therapy. Some patients would decline therapy for any number of reasons, despite the protests of myself and the therapist. These situations taught me that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Some people just simply do not possess the motivation to participate in therapy each day, even though it is in their best interests. 

The most enjoyable part was, of course, learning about occupational therapy. I also greatly enjoyed speaking and interacting with almost all of the patients I encountered.

In August  21 2007, Central Texas Rehab, Hospital officially was open for business. It was initially a 20 bed acute inpatient rehab. facility, staff with an interdisciplinary team.   Upper management consisted of the CEO,Director of nurses, and Director of Therapy.  Each morning started with charge nurse to charge nurse report and a summary of patient activity was shared with therapy director by pm charge nurse. Nursing shifts were 12 hours. Nursing staff received report at patient servers to facilitate chart review.  There were transitions in upper management consisting of CEO and Nursing Director change, the cohesiveness of the staff remain. The hardest part of my job was leaving due personal reasons.  The most enjoyable part of my job was the satisfaction received from incremental improvement of patients to their optimal level of function.

I do love my job for what I do for my patients but this place makes it very hard to do so when they are making the nurse/tech to patient ratio even bigger for the past month I've had 11 or more patients a night. last week I had 15 patients with 2 nurses. Crazy! The management doesn't seem  to remember what it was like to work 12 hr. shifts and they have very high expectations but also giving the nursing staff more patients (makes sense right?).

My coworkers on noc shift are usually awesome. Most are willing to help with anything but every job has the few people who have the "that's not my patient" mentality or just dont help you. 

My house supervisors, nurses, respiratory techs, and nursing techs make my night enjoyable. I am honestly never hungry if I ever forget my lunch and they always make me laugh. My nurse manager is great when it comes to working with my schedule. We have a few people going to school and she understands that.     

A typical day at work is scheduled accurately and moves at a fast pace. Patients are treated for therapy up to 3hrs per individual. I've learned an immense ammount in both patient care as well as treatment practices here. Every day is different and new. I really don't like doing the same thing every day nor do enjoy being micro-managed and we don't have any of that here. Management locally is incredibly supportive. Co-workers as I mentioned are the best for the most part considering the large staff we must carry to cover up to 7 days a week of therapy week in and week out. The hardest part of my day is when a patient doesn't want to do any therapy so they can get better and get on with their lives! Best part of my day is watching a patient improve greatly and make immense strides towards advancing out of rehab.

I’ve worked at CTRH for several years and love it here. The work is not always easy, but it is always worth it as we make such a great impact on patient lives. The coworkers/staff are great to work with, and leadership truly cares about the success of both employees and patients. We are part of a large corporate healthcare system so bottom line matters, if you can understand that and contribute to it, you will succeed here. This is sometimes seen as a negative, but it is the reality of our country’s healthcare system and at the end of the day of the hospital isn’t profitable it doesn’t have money to pay employees- so it’s a necessary condition. Overall I would highly recommend working at CTRH, especially if you are a motivated, caring, and want to work somewhere challenging but fun!

This was the first time I had worked in a hospital, and will be forever grateful for the opportunity.   It was a learning environment from day one.   My team there was like a tiny United Nations.  Some of the members were from Nigeria, China, Mexico, India, and England.  Everyone was so friendly and accepting.  They were more than happy to share everything they knew.  I never questioned what my responsibilities were, and I felt I could go to Management at any time to have my questions answered.  I learned about proper transfer techniques, phlebotomy, positioning techniques, communicating with doctors.  The hardest part of the job was leaving it.

you can see the potential in Kindred, but there is disorganization, from the top down.  it is difficult to watch the revolving door of management and the crazy sways of leadership.  knee jerk reactions abound.  instability.  cronyism.  
i love most of the people that i work with.  many many good people have moved on because they saw the writing on the wall.  when they left it hurt, cuz you knew that you were losing an integral team member. 
we have been asked to do some unethical things, like stack treatments and bill for extraneous things that pad patient's bill.  
policies change on an almost daily basis, and are usually some form of retribution.

Great clinical team. They deliver good care with nice equipment and strong clinical leaders. However, the operational leadership calls the shots. Staffing is as slim as they can make it. Employee issues are rarely addressed and they are asked to "stay in their lane" which results in very high turnover. All that matters to corporate leadership is to admit patients to make money at all costs. They ignore addressing local problems and find new employees to push their agenda, if current ones speak out.

•	Assist registered/ license medical personnel by preparing the necessary equipment/ supplies required to provide care to patients
•	Provide direct care to patients in hygienic and domestic daily activities
•	Document and report changes in patients
•	Receive inbound calls on multi-line handset as well as dispatching calls to appropriate departments
•	Scheduling of patients/ transportation to workshops and to outpatient facilities
•	General clerical duties and maintain inventory of supplies
