What is the best part of working at the company?
This was an awful place to work. There was no “best” part. Instead of streamlining any new criteria for credentialing, which could have been done easily, they center continued to expand its paperwork continuously and changes could be expected 3x’s per week. Additional time was placed on therapists and the administration did not appear to know what their actual work led to in terms of efficiency in format or procedure. Sad. High turnover rate. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of administrative follow through on their job. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Terrible. They pick favorites that have nothing to do with ability to integrate models into effective communication with the patient. It is as though this means nothing to them. Many patients are dissatisfied. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get in about an hour early at approximately 8:30 am and leave at 9:46 pm four days a week and come in on Saturday to ensure weekly no work was left over for any particular week. While this was not demanded, those who did not do this fell behind their work regularly. Chestnut was not honest in their supervisory tasks so that there was no accounting within list form of dynamics that affect the therapists' jobs.

Working here has truly been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. The impact you can make in the lives of others is something you feel every single day—it’s real and it matters. The groups I run bring me a deep sense of purpose, and I genuinely look forward to the work I do. While every workplace has its challenges, and one of the current managers does create some difficulties, the incredible support and joy I get from my coworkers make a huge difference. They bring so much positivity to the day and remind me why I love what I do. I work a PRN shift which means I have unlimited overtime and a flexible schedule This position is not easy by any means but it is very much worth it. 

Great place to learn and gain experience in all fields. 

It truly depends on who your supervisor is and what field you are in. 

Administrative Management micromanages and sets unreachable goals.  

Administrative positions have been combined making for less pay and much more work. 

Rehabilitation and Out patient staff and management are phenomenal. 

Low salaries. Pay has got better within the last year but some say it’s not enough. 

80 hours of PTO a year. Plus Retention rewards. 

You accrue 6 hours a month for sick time. 

9 paid holidays. 

Family oriented workplace. They understand people have lives outside of work. 

Medium to High insurance monthly premiums.  $150 or $300 a month for a single person depending on your plan. Not great coverage, high deductibles, prescription costs and appointment costs ,even with the best plan. 

Dental is $5 a month. 2 free cleanings a year. Plus check up. Not sure about vision or extensive dental. 

401k matching is up to 5% after a year of employment and that’s if your are paying in 10%.

Sense of purpose. 

HR does not follow their own guidelines.

The consumer.  Some of staff. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having more supervisors that don't know their department than actual workers. Low pay, stress, and constantly being asked to break the law. very inconsistent with rules for some and different treatment and pay . Its a super dumpster fire. The don't care about the consumers they are living in unsafe and filthy conditions. It's a nightmare .I would not let my family be left in their care.  And yes your tax dollars go to waste for this atrocity.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There isn't any.  You will get a write up if you display the American flag. They make jokes and call the afro American maintenance worker boy! And make jokes about one's  mental illnesses While others who do no work get special treatment. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long, stressful and unproductive

We all come from different walks, but when someone applies for the kinds of jobs they have at Chestnut, I think that most are hoping to help people. Chestnut is a good place to do that. Most staff I have met genuinely care about clients. They are open to new ideas, and seek feedback. The recovery focus is very progressive--a major plus---also the training you get when beginning in Crisis Intervention, Motivational Enhancement, and the like is very helpful.. Advancement can be intimidating, though I wouldn't say it is impossible. Chestnut is huge and there are always jobs available somewhere! There is also some bureaucracy, but that is to be expected at any program receiving DMH/DASA funding.....for its size the agency is certainly less bureaucratic than it could. Chestnut is a great place to start out, and not a bad place to stay either.

What is the best part of working at the company?
We have great leadership who respects the individuality of each team member.  I also enjoy working remotely and having in-office meetings once a month.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Waiting on program deliverables and budget approvals from thr State.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is important how Chestnut respects diversity and culture...they do a great job!  But what I am most impressed with is how Chestnut respects and honors the importance of  family in each employee's life.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Every day is interesting, and well within the scope of being a part of a team with attainable goals that focus on helping one person, one family, and one community at a time.

So far I've been so impressed by all the staff at Chestnut. If you are trying to break into this field this is a great company to work for. Everyday I learned something and was in constant aww on how effective the staff were. They could defuse most situations. The staff there all have a lot of different backgrounds that we are able to use to relate to and help clients. I'm also amazed on how they truly value your mental health. I've seen numerous times where staff go out of they way to help cover when a co-worker has counseling or doctors appointments. Also I was experiencing so very hard times with my son and the supervisors and my co-workers really came together so I could put family first. I absolutely love my time at Chestnut and look forward to learning from these amazing people.

Overall, I enjoyed my time here. There are things that could be improved at any job.

Supervisors really care, and are willing to work the employees to make sure they feel competent and confident in their work.

However, upper management made a lot of bad calls. They we’re unwilling to pay workers a fair wage long enough that they ended up laying off nursing and shutting down detox (at the expense of the community - people are dying and have no where to go) to cut costs. Only to eventually cave and give needed raises. But the damage was already done.

As far as work atmosphere, coworkers work well as a team and often it truly feels like a family. Even if some coworkers don’t get along, drama is handled by management.

Overall a good place to work, but be prepared for some inconsistency and to see clients being failed by the system. That was by far the hardest part of the job.  

If you want to work somewhere that over works and under pays you - this is your dream job.

The work environment is toxic and full of manipulation. Employees freely talk about getting drunk on the weekends while working side by side with individuals in recovery. Also, they don’t drug test anyone before hiring. Again, concerning and confusing. 

 The mental health aspect is not serious about helping individuals and throw people in with zero experience. 

Don’t expect anything to be done in a timely manner or for you to be trained at all. They just throw you in and hope for the best. 

The company is essentially the blind leading the blind! Pretty much anything goes. It’s a perfect environment to create a breeding ground for predators. 

The clients can be fun though and the hours are fairly flexible.

The nurses, support staff, fellow colleagues, and patients.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unrealistic expectations of required patient visits per day. Leadership that is non-responsive to needs and concerns. Being the last person in the office to find out something that most directly impacts you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Caring and committed environment among direct care staff. Activities that promote worker cohesion.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Start running when you walk in the door. Break at lunch to catch up on charting. Busy again after lunch. Take work home to finish charting.
