Prepare schedule for the day.

Develop short and long time goals for each of my employees.
Daily contacts with employees, contractors, suppliers, venders, nurses (medical staff), patients, and doctors.
Deal with technical matters, administrative issues.
Deal with matters of concerns with employees, contractors, suppliers, venders, nurses (medical staff), patients, and doctors, by face-to-face contact, telephone, emails, letters.
Attend meetings, Plan, direct or coordinate projects.
Cover for management team or secretary as needed.
Report to manager on a daily bases.
Report to second shift supervisors or managers of any callouts or concerns.
Perform other related duties as required.


* What I learned; I learned that anything can arise in any given situation and you have to react quick to anything from Doctors, nurses, patient concerns. to capacity codes, drills, to the real live codes. Everyone to Doctors, nurses, housekeeping, dietary ... has to be as a team and work together.

* Management is supportive.
* My coworkers are supportive and work as a team.

* Hardest part of my job is to maintain the quality of cleanness when short staffed and keeping some employees on task and motivated.

* The most enjoyable part of the job is meeting and working with the diverse cultures of so many different people that work at the hospital.

As a student nurse extern, my typical day would start by obtaining the necessary vital signs and routine checks. I would then go into each room and change out bed linens and assist with bathing, perform blood/glucose checks, and help with breakfast, if necessary.  It was also my responsibility to answer patient call bells, and be available to the patients if they were in need of assistance. As a nurse extern, I also had certain privileges. I was able to, under supervision, learn and gain experience perform numerous skills. For example, I was able to perform numerous dressing changes, the insertion/discontinuing of catheters, initiating IV access, and other skills required of RN's. The hardest part of my job was dealing with under-staffing issues. My department was going through a transitional period, where it was not uncommon to be short-handed. This resulted in extended hours and an increased workload, and often times being pulled to assist other areas with their assignments, while still having to mind for your own. This increased workload was strenuous and difficult at times. The two aspects of my job that I enjoyed the most was the team members I worked closely with, and the fulfillment that comes from helping someone in their time of need. The health care team that I was a part of was like none other I have ever worked with. The nurses I worked with were knowledgeable and skilled, yet friendly and accommodating to when I first began, always taking me under their wing and showing me what it means to be a nurse. Our professional relationships grew with time, and I became a valuable, contributing member of the team, and my fellow team members became friends in the process.The second enjoyable aspect was seeing the impact I could have on another person, during an extremely stressful state. My position allowed me to spend a significant amount of time with each patient, and knowing that I had the opportunity to build a therapeutic relationship with each person was very satisfying. I knew that each time I walked into a person's room, whether they be recovering from surgery, dealing with an illness, or whatever it may be, I had the opportunity to make them smile, or make them just a little more comfortable. That is an incredible feeling, and it makes going to "work" so much more enjoyable.

The position could be 100% remote or hybrid model to be fair across the IT team environments. Majority of IT is in hybrid or remote capacity. No accountability by upper leadership, too busy at the beach or running errands. On call is a joke, nothing priority to those on-call. They ask others who are in the office to take care of it. Local NOC team onsite covers 3 shifts but still called upon to do on-call. If NOC covers 3 shifts, the team should be contacting IT resources directly for any outages. Its simple no on-call needed for 3 shifts, that's called turnover.  The work day composes of other teams work dumped on team. 

Simple work, tons of down time, workloads should be distributed across shifts but that management. A lot of processes and meetings that shouldn't exist but just take up calendar time.

Micromanaging, manager lacks development and people skills. Manager instead beats up on team members for not knowing processes. Lack of training is the companies major issue and coming from a much larger organizations this whole culture needs improvement and how to do its processes so teams understand the fundamentals.

Other IT team members can freely leave daily at noon or just be offsite. Network, Facility and Server team.

No lunch breaks or breaks in general. Procedures and work culture so out of date. Again this falls on upper leadership not looking at the organization overall, its time for a re-org.

Lack of cleaning supplies for a Healthcare including wipes and cleaners for a shared space. For those who have to be onsite the cubes are empty, so plenty of room for teams in the office to work and have more privacy, but some teams live in sheltered environment so manager can micromanage.

In my short tenure with this company I don't see any internal team members being promoted to other positions or given an opportunity to work with other teams for cross training. Lack of knowledge transfers. 

Cross training could benefit the company if someone leaves or retires.




A typical day at work.  
•	Primary function: Perform secretarial duties associated with the process of distribution of surgical pathology, cytology, bone marrow, and coagulation and autopsy reports and to support the administrative activities required of the Christiana Hospital Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. 
•	Transcribes outside consultation reports/letters for all pathologists at Christiana Hospital. Distributes internal expedite chart copies of surgical pathology reports. Distributes ancillary reports, along with a copy of our surgical report, to the responsible pathologist and all attending physicians listed on the original report.    
•	Packages specimen send outs and mails via Federal Express. Enters the results of send-outs into the Laboratory Information System. Distributes these reports along with a copy of our anatomic pathology report to all mail distributions following verification by the pathologist. 
•	Returns slides to other institutions maintaining proper documentation. Any written report generated as a result of Christiana Care review of this material will be forwarded with the slides. 
•	Handles incoming calls, forwarding them appropriately or taking and relaying accurate messages, Responds to patient request for slides and reports, prepares cases for pathologist review and properly packages slides to be mailed/picked-up, maintains proper documentation of all slide send outs.
•	Primary Function for STRATA Coordinator:  Perform data entry support for the STRATA company which took samples and done in-depth testing on them to possible come up with a solution to their clients current situations which would allow them to get proper treatment.
•	Input patient information into the STRATA pool such as names, DOB, requesting Oncologist, diagnosis and ICD10 diagnosis code, sex and specimen samples that were being sent (the number if slides, and the 0.
•	Packaged specimen (tissue blocks) send outs and mailed via Federal Express. Entered the results of send-outs into the Laboratory Information System. Distributed these reports along with a copy of our anatomic pathology report to all mail distributions following verification by the pathologist.

Typical Day at Work:
An ordinary evening entails gathering soiled dishes from the dining area, followed by the washing and sanitization of dishes, pots, pans, and various kitchen apparatus. This ensures all items are prepared for subsequent meal service. Additionally, I contribute to maintaining kitchen organization and a pristine, secure operational environment throughout my shift.

What I Learned:
My tenure at Christian Care Retirement Community has underscored the significance of collaboration, accountability, time management, and upholding rigorous sanitation protocols. I have also gained an appreciation for the critical role a clean kitchen plays in delivering exceptional resident care.

Management:
Management consistently demonstrates support, respect, and appreciation for the staff's contributions. Expectations are communicated with clarity, and assistance is readily available when required.

Workplace Culture:
The workplace culture is characterized by positivity, collegiality, and a strong team orientation. As a member of the night shift, I genuinely value my interactions with colleagues. We operate cohesively, offering mutual support and fostering an inviting atmosphere that enhances the work experience.

The Hardest Part of the Job:
Periods of high activity present challenges, particularly when a substantial volume of dishes requires cleaning within a limited timeframe. Nevertheless, collaborative teamwork significantly mitigates these difficulties.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The most gratifying aspect of my role is the opportunity to collaborate with my colleagues. I deeply appreciate my night shift team, and we consistently provide mutual support. It is deeply rewarding to recognize that my efforts contribute to a clean and secure environment for both residents and staff.

I truly appreciated my time learning on my specific unit. I was often frustrated by the amount of sitting cases that were required due to the lack of proper staffing across the hospital. As a student nurse, the only benefit of these shifts was sometimes therapeutic communication practice... otherwise, you were sitting in a dark room trying not to fall asleep. This was not helpful for a student nurse trying to gain floor experience. 

The nurses were all very welcoming and appreciated teamwork. There was no "eat your young" mentality with the bedside nursing staff. 

Student Nurses, if you are thinking about taking an externship be very careful. There is no proper explanation of protocol or risks of taking this position upon hire, even with the days of watching corporate-mandated videos.

If you are fired or let go for something minor such as tardiness, this will ruin your chances of being hired as an RN after graduation. So if you are a resident of Delaware with no interest in being out of state, this makes your possible career options very limited. 

Maybe more importantly, if your school holds clinical rotations at this hospital and you are dismissed, you will be barred from all campuses. This will force you to take clinicals elsewhere solo. This has happened to several in this position. 

In conclusion, a great learning opportunity... but with great risks. Dishonest and poor management.  Disorganized and unknowledgeable HR department. Even if you thought the separation was amicable, they will refuse to contact you back or give explanations for clarity in any form. 

I have been a staff member at Christiana hospital for the past 10 years. It wasn’t until several months ago that I became miserable each shift. I used to love my job until we recently became more about numbers including money, and less about satisfaction of the employees that work so hard every day to keep this place running. Recently they have increased Our nurse to patient ratios to as many as 7 to 1 on medical and surgical floors. This is extremely unsafe and unrealistic. Often times, I feel like my nursing license on the line. As a part of the float pool, you get to enjoy flexibility but any control that we may have previously had has all been taken away. Another downside to the company is they do not pay their float staff more than other staff, as many hospitals do for their increased skill set and adaptability. We are constantly given more of a workload with less help, yet they will complain to us about incidental overtime. Many staff have transferred to other hospitals because of the lack of resources and low pay. Benefits I would say are excellent here aside from the tuition assistance. They are big on trying to retain their employees. For anything they help you with, including residencies and fellowships, you have to sign a minimum two-year contract. I am sad to see what this company has become and I pray it gets better in the future.

Low pay, poor management,  overworked, no room for growth. I have worked for Christiana Care for almost 5 years and I still pretty much have the same rate. Raises are less than 50 cents a year, and most LPN's are making 17.89 an hour to start out. It's so bad that even the Administrative Assistants,  Medical Records staff, and Secretary makes either the same amount or more.  Which I believe is an Injustice being though LPN's are required to do the most work between Medical Assistants and RN's. We pretty much do everything. I was doing more than 5 jobs, while getting paid lower than most. Management has no regard for us as well because we do not fit Christiana Cares goal of Magnet Status. Anyone who is not Magnet Status is immediately disregarded and talked down to. There is also no room to advance. LPN's are the only ones who do not have a ladder within Christiana. Even Medical Records, Medical Assistants, PCT's have a ladder. I have never felt so low in my life. Education is geared toward RN's getting a better degree and not really toward anyone else. If I were an LPN I would stay far from this place.  The only benefit we have is maybe our benefits and that is level across the board. LPN's have no career opportunities, compensation is horrible, work life/balance is bad, and senior management does not help. I have reached out multiple times and have not had any help.

A typical work day for me would consist of: Checking the fax machine for any medical records that may have been received for up-coming appointments.  Scanning and indexing (attaching documents to corresponding patient's charts) any documents that I have printed or received.  I also process any STAT records requests that may be received.  Checking e-mail for any changes in the doctor's I support schedules.  Chart prep for up-coming appointments.  I break for 30 minutes (lunch).  Upon returning I check the fax machine again, and process all paperwork accordingly.  I would then check my schedules for the following week's New Patient Consults, and request/search for and print records in preparation of their appointment. I then scan and index all documentation printed and received, and complete my day following up with Dr.'s offices for records requests, and prioritizing my work flow for the following day.  

I primarily work independently, with consistent communication with my co-workers and supervisors to keep the office informed.  Confidentiality is VERY important in my field, which I always maintain!  I treat all patients as if they were my parent or loved one, operating in a professional manner at all times.

I felt Christiana had a competitive salary and benefits package.  The interview with the Carelink team in Wilmington, DE went well and I left feeling I had made the right decision.  I received a job offer within a week of the interview, but no follow up after that.  I was left in the dark about starting training and the location I had to report to.  I completed the general orientation and was asked to report to the Wilmington office to shadow another employee.  The moral in that office is extremely low and I heard nothing but complaints about management and the schedule.  After starting my position, I barely heard from my direct manager and they almost never responded to emails.  You receive a nice amount of vacation time, but using it is like pulling teeth.  The Carelink department require you to work evenings and weekends, which makes it difficult to request time off.  They are always short staffed because the turnover rate is high and they are almost always fighting over the schedule.  I was hired salary, but flexing your time is almost non existent.   I did not last 6 months in my position and I have never done that at any other job.  After I submitted my two week notice, I didn't even receive a response.  I had to follow up to make sure they received it.  I strongly advise against working for Carelink.
