The people at Citizens Options Unlimited, including management, were excellent at what they do.

A few people seemed less interested in 'excelling' at work, but they still managed to answer all my questions and do the essentials of their job, so I don't think any harm was done. 

For the right person, this company is 5 stars, but I like to work-work-work, and at Citizens, this was sometimes difficult (believe it or not). There were times management told me there is nothing I can do and I should just sit around until there is something to do. These moments of doing nothing could last well over an hour. This is also because I had the day-time shift, so after we readied the patients and sent them to the day program, we had little to do.

After a week of searching and asking for things to do to little avail, I brought up wanting more work to upper-management, and for a week it got busy (e.g. they had me doing errands in other houses, going to appointments with patients), but then it went back to break after break. I was still going on appointments and doing errands, but there simply may not have been enough things to do.

I would recommend this job for someone who works hard when they need to, but who also enjoys a lot of down time. If you don't enjoy sitting around, make sure you're not working the day shift (unless you're working the day program, which I was told is nonstop moving).

On the other hand, this job got me comfortable doing the basics of Healthcare (e.g. changing clothes of and showering patients, etc.), which I'm grateful for because, even though I'm not sure I'll return to a position in Healthcare, I can use these skills if ever somebody close to me requires it. If I do return to a position in healthcare, I'll make sure to apply to a place known for working staffs' butts off.

If you wanna learn the basics and you like many long breaks, you'll appreciate this place. Also, the patients were great and I loved getting to know them.

This is a job that's for a certain type of person.  You have to like or love working with people with disabilities in order to remain in the field.  The work done with us often goes unnoticed in the public eye and sometimes even within the work place.  This is because you must be great in every moment while caring for someone else's lives.  The people who do this job are every day heroes and do not get paid what they should.  But this is in the field in general not specific to Citizens.  They (Citizens) does a great job of remaining competitive salary wise.  But in order to stay here pay cannot be your sloe determining factor.  However the stills you learn on this job can be transferred to any job in the future. 

This job is as fun as you make it.  You are able to do almost as much as you would in your personal time(i.e go to the movies, Broadway shows, concerns, traveling, sporting events, out to dinner, the gym,etc) with the people we support and be paid for it.

The staff and individuals are wonderful.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part is that the staffing is horrible.  Upper administration cares more about their families and personal lives than actually dealing with major issues.  Management and HR are spineless- if you can even call HR a department there.  Documentation doesn’t exist, paperwork is unorganized and poses dangerous situations when data doesn’t carry over from month to month.  People aren’t trained appropriately and are put in situations where they don’t know how to care for people appropriately.  The benefits are good, but pay is in the lowest 10% compared to similar organizations. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Unorganized, disrespectful, overworked, management constantly calling and texting to pick up shifts.  No recruitment efforts whatsoever. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hectic. Unable to get assigned work done due to not enough staff.

Working at Camp Loyaltown was an incredibly challenging experience. From day one, I encountered severe issues with the work environment. The staff were either overly friendly to the point of being invasive or completely ignored me, and the predominant use of Spanish made communication difficult for non-Spanish speakers.
The position itself was extremely stressful, contributing significantly to my anxiety and negatively impacting my mental health. Furthermore, there were significant safeguarding issues related to the privacy of both staff and campers, which were highly concerning.
Management was horrific and authoritarian, providing zero support for the staff. Any concerns or issues raised were met with indifference or hostility. Ultimately, leaving this job was the best decision I ever made. I cannot recommend this workplace to anyone seeking a supportive and respectful work environment.

Management covers for each other and covers up incidences. They dont care for their individuals, staff is not respected, parents who have $ run the place with no advocacy for those with no family. Management is atrocious all the way up the company. Tolerance of intolerable acts, expect way too much from staff. You'll get mandated to stay for the next shift and if you have another job to go to or kids to go home to they dont care, you'll still get written up. Any concerns from staff falls on deaf ears along with hypocrisy from management to staff. Theres been many injuries that they "dont know what happen" to their individual ms and things get swept under the rug. Never in my life have I been so disgusted by a company or group of workers. Slackers and hard workers are treated the same. If this was the last place in the world to work, I'd still rather be broke. JOIN ANY COMPANY but this one.

This could be a fabulous place for All! Upper Management needs to be replaced with caring & empathetic staff that possess strong leadership skills, belief and trust in their staff to help them grow & flourish. They don't seem to understand that micromanagement decreases productivity and morale, and their divide and conquer philosophy has caused them to lose many educated, experienced, caring, honest, and hard workers who should still be there...as They are the Ones who truly  fulfilled the Mission - that of keeping the campers safe & healthy and ensuring that they had the Best time of their Lives while on vacation at Summer Camp!

I waited until I worked at Shoreham for about a year before revieweing and I have to say that, while it isnt perfect, it is a really good nursing job. I came from a SNF where I had to pass meds for 40 people and now I can take my time with max 16 people. my supervisors support me and there is always options to pick up OT and incentives or hard to fill shifts like the ON, sometimes they pay double time. I am never mandated but given the option to make bank to fill a crummy shift. It can be hard because they are short staffed with aids like most places but the nursing work is very reasonable and I like the people that I work with. 

A non- profit organization with an unprofessional atmosphere. Management clearly favors certain employees. You will not be recognized for your hard work . Management delegates and usually does not provide assistance . Stressful work environment with way too much paperwork. Agency philosophy does not align with what is actually happening . Have never felt so unappreciated . Upper management drives company cars and don’t care they other employees are underpaid. 

This job is not the best.  Management doesn’t clearly prepare you for what actually working in these places and what could happen.
