I was hired by an amazing recruiter, and was told that I would be starting in a new market. I asked to start on a specific date and was told no.  It was a mess from day one. I did not get proper onboarding training. I was thrown into a different role than what I applied to. I was told at the end of my first day that I had to attend in person meetings the rest of the week in DC, which is over an hour away from where I live. During that week my car broke down, and I told my supervisor. Her response was along the lines of," sorry about your car, but you will need to be here tomorrow". No accomodation after being thrown into the job. Also, I was told I would work 9 to 5. And was thrown on a rotating 10 to 7 shift the second week. On top of that, I was assigned over 85 online trainings that were over an hour long for most of them with no time to complete. I was thrown into "outreach", which felt like I was a telemarketer. Outreach lasted for 3 months. I was initially told it would last only 5 weeks. The managers and supervisors swore there was no micromanagement, yet they record all calls and "grade" them. There was even a meeting on how they grade the calls. This company is all about meeting metrics. With the high caseload and metric reqirements, quality gets thrown out the window. They preach about how diverse they are and all the groups they have, yet they give no opportunity to participate due to long hours  of outreach and WHO's. Work-life balance is non-existant. If you have kids, you may as well look somewhere else to work. The start of it was like the blind leading the blind. No one knew what was happening and there is no organization. Lots of nonsensical things added to the days work with no real reason. There is a big problem with lack of communication from managers to employees. I felt that I couldnt trust this company from day 1. I tried to stick it out, but due to all of these things on top of personal issues, I had to resign 3 months in. The stress wasnt worth it. I had 2 days left on the job, and they decided to "fire" me. If you like chaos, stress, and being lied to, then this is the perfect place for you.

 had the privilege of working as a caseworker at Cityblock Health, and I can confidently say that my time there was truly rewarding. Cityblock Health is an organization that values its employees and the impact they make on the community. As a caseworker, I was able to contribute to the well-being of individuals in a meaningful way.

One of the standout features of Cityblock Health is its commitment to fostering a positive work environment. From day one, I felt supported by my colleagues and supervisors. The collaborative atmosphere allowed for open communication and the sharing of ideas. This made it easier to navigate the challenges that can come with casework, as I always had a network of knowledgeable professionals to turn to.

Cityblock Health’s emphasis on professional growth is commendable. The company provided opportunities for skill development and continuous learning. Regular training sessions and workshops not only enhanced my existing skills but also equipped me with new tools to excel in my role. The organization’s investment in its employees’ growth speaks volumes about its dedication to excellence.

As a caseworker, I had the privilege of directly impacting people’s lives. Cityblock Health’s patient-centric approach enabled me to provide personalized care and support to individuals in need. This aspect of the job was incredibly fulfilling, as I could witness the positive changes in patients’ lives through our efforts.

In conclusion, my experience as a caseworker at Cityblock Health was overwhelmingly positive. The company’s commitment to its employees, focus on professional growth, and meaningful impact on the community make it an exceptional place to work. I am grateful for the time I spent at Cityblock Health and the invaluable experiences I gained.

I highly recommend Cityblock Health to anyone seeking a rewarding career in healthcare and community support.

My typical day at work is case managing over 100+ complex members including severe mental health. Helping the members through care coordination, SCHEDULING medical appointments and transportation, health education, and medical authorization along with many more 200+ tasks. Calling on 60 of those members every week while taking an ambudant of calls coming in through their operator line which are always complex issues. In addition, the expectancy to be IN THE FIELD at peoples HOMES every week in the midst of a pandemic. Meetings every single day with no flexibility around these meetings to complete home visits. The most important part is being MEASURED on every single task that is being completed each day. The management in the DC area does not seem to know what they are doing and it shows. The hardest part of the job is the extensive and overly demanding workload with it growing each week with the changing of market goals every other week.  The company does incorporate virtual social events and company meetings but it still doesn’t help with the feeling of being overworked. The most enjoyable part of the job is being an advocate for the members I helped and building such a great relationship to make a positive change.

Supportive Manager that has my back - no matter what!
Going to bed nightly, knowing that I was able to do good work for each person that interacted with today.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Constant changing environment with the political landscape which bares heavily on the members and their coverage/healthcare.   As a growing, thriving entrepreneurial venture, there is regular evolution of best practices and ways of working which seem to be constantly changing.  Mgmt is working to better communicate these and to be transparent in future organizational changes and growth, which was initiated based on employee feedback. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
inclusive, supportive, meaningful contribution, individual empowerment to make a difference in the lives of individuals/members/patients.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Seeing patients in person or virtually for the majority of the day and some team meetings focused on patient care.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Wonderful opportunity to be paid a fair and livable wage, work from home and assist a needed community with healthcare services. The disappointment is being laid off due to loss of funding and practically no chance of rehire due to employer's need for the employee to live in or very close to established home office to perform in former position as a Community Health Partner. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part about working for the company is NOT! It is very hard to find a good salary without a degree. Cityblock provided a temporary security for its employees. However due to their communication methods the stress comes when you try to reach Human Resources. The company only communicates via email once you no longer are employed. They report false wages or fail to report all wages as seen in their Paylocity system. They turned a wonderful experience to a complicated one.

Remote work , virtual calls and bi weekly office visits.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Remote employment experience only.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I worked as a Community Health Worker. The position was primarily remote, but we had to go out in the field and see high-acute members during my tenure…… The caseload was extensive and overwhelming. Calls came in constantly, and there was minimal help from a supervisor. The one advantage was that employees received significant PTO, and once the contract ended and we lost our jobs, we received a severance. The job was tough, and the pay wasn't equivalent to the required work. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything. It was a highly stressful caseload of 100-130 members, quickly 50 with high acute needs. As community health workers, we were in charge of the psychosocial aspects of the members, housing, connecting patients with providers, assisting with transportation, etc.  It was alot! 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was decent that the CEO truly believes in the core values and mission. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful, and thats putting it mildly.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I have been with this company for some time now. This is the most caring job I have ever worked at. Their mission statement is in alignment with employee culture making morale very high. The employees reliable. The work we do i s meaningful in the community and you can see the positive impact it has. The only drawback is the layoffs and the hiring freezes in my opinion. With this economy there needs to be a way to advance. I know things can't be 100% perfect but this job is the closest I have ever come to it. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No room for advancement or sudden layoffs. I however understand that the company has to do what is in their best interests. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is very member as well as employee focused. Our members come first but employees are also valued which make morale very high.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day consist of reaching out to our members in the community that may be undeserved and helping them close their health gaps.

The MA Market has strong organizational flaws, unrealistic job expectations that change weekly, and management is political/unprofessional/and under qualified. From a mental health standpoint for staff and clients this company is far from what it claims to be. The population served is heavy BH without educated and trained management…leading to inappropriate case management decisions for clients which impacts staff greatly on many levels. Personally I believe it all comes down to the Org Chart/who they have chosen for management. Hiring upper management without experience and qualifications shows here. The benefits and pay are very good— but as a social worker I just don’t see eye to eye with their practices. All teams run differently depending who your manager is—streamlined and accountable workflows don’t exist. Living in constant change with the start up excuse. Reactive change seems to be answer. Certainly some toxic masculinity in a top manager in the MA market who is often belittling, passive aggressive, and loves to mansplain to female staff (even openly in market meetings). 

The company’s mission and goals are admirable, and in the past this was an extremely rewarding place to work with strong benefits, generous time off, and a supportive culture. Unfortunately, the work environment has changed significantly over the last few years.

The organization is now run more like a factory, with shortened visit times, little to no administrative time, and minimal operational support. The atmosphere has become increasingly chaotic and anxiety-provoking, with large-scale layoffs and firings becoming almost an annual occurrence.

The workload and expectations placed on providers and medical assistants have increased dramatically, while morale, camaraderie, and sense of job security have steadily declined. Nearly every day seems to bring another negative operational change, which has become deeply demoralizing for staff.

A few years ago, I would have strongly encouraged providers to join this company. Sadly, I can no longer recommend it. It is disappointing to see a company lose its culture and move away from the values and ethics that once made it a great place to work

Cityblock Health has a mission that sounds great on paper—improving healthcare for underserved communities—but the internal reality is chaotic and demoralizing for employees. Management is highly inexperienced, leading to poor decision-making, constant miscommunication, and a toxic work environment. Instead of focusing on stabilizing operations and supporting current staff, leadership kept expanding into new markets, stretching resources thin while ignoring employee needs.

One of the biggest issues is the random and abrupt firings. Many talented colleagues were let go without clear justification, creating an atmosphere of fear and instability. Others chose to resign due to horrible management practices, including lack of transparency, unrealistic expectations, and no clear direction.

The company could have potential if it invested in competent leadership and employee retention, but as of now, it feels like a sinking ship.
