 A typical day involves managing a busy schedule of client appointments, providing resources, and addressing urgent needs. Days can be unpredictable, with clients sometimes canceling or not showing up. I've learned a great deal about navigating the complexities of needs and mental health, enhancing my problem-solving and communication skills.  Management is decent but tends to focus more on unit performance than on the well-being of employees. This can create an environment where support feels conditional. The workplace culture is generally collaborative, with supportive coworkers who make the day-to-day more enjoyable. However, the emphasis on performance can overshadow the overall atmosphere. The hardest part of the job is managing the stress of meeting unit goals amidst client cancellations and time-sensitive issues that often require work outside regular hours. The most enjoyable part is the direct impact I have on clients' lives and the relationships built over time, which provide a sense of fulfillment in my work.

You will love the people you work with and the people you meet along the way, but middle management shoves productivity so hard down your throat you will want to quit after a month. Productivity is directly connected to your bonus which is impossible to get without going into overtime and you lose some of that over time if you get the bonus, (more than 5hrs of over time isn't paid normally and is just part of your bonus check) and you are probably thinking 5hrs isn't a lot, but that is 5hrs in a month and in order to meet 85hr of productivity or more you will be working more than 5hrs a month over unless you are doing work off the clock which I don't ask of anyone. And forget about taking days off if you want your bonus, no productivity given in exchange for PTO.
I met life long friends and learned lessons from this job I will never forget, but it also destroyed my mental health and management couldn't do anything about it while it was happening :) Staff continuously comes and goes for a reason but there are people who have been there for years who need to be fired but won't be because they can't keep people around. The job asks you to have boundaries then wants you to break those boundaries at every chance you get in order to convenience the client and inconvenience yourself. The job is not for everyone but the environment here is currently so toxic that it is for no one.

Building in disrepair. Staff are expected to paint their offices and the hallways of the building instead of maintenance department. A/C/Heating system not working in most of the building for over a year. No repairs made due to cost. 
This is a frustrating, poorly run company who does not have the interests of the community or their employees at heart. There is a high push for staff to meet or exceed productivity which makes more money for the company.  Unfortunately, the company does not take care of their employees nor truly care about the people we serve. We work with some very ill clients who need a lot of services, support and care. The people who come to Coleman for help are just a dollar sign to this organization. Most of the good, caring, hardworking staff have left. Those with little to no work ethic remain and seem to be  taken care of within the inner circle of management. Save the frustration and choose another employer who will value you and truly care about the community it serves.

assisting clients with varying degrees of mental instability (from depression and anxiety to Bipolar and schizophrenia) to access community resources, including food banks, JFS, SCCAA, SSA, utility assistance, rent assistance, and develop/implement positive, healthy coping skills and strategies to begin and/or regain self-sustainability and independent living.
Management stresses CMs to not work more than 40 hrs a week, no matter what, but you often have to - on your own time - just to stay caught up on documentation.
work culture is mostly community-based; high potential for entering unsafe environments as the client demographics are generally the poor and homeless. They do offer company vehicles for CM use, which is something most other BH agencies do not offer.
Hardest part is dealing with the unsavory hygiene and and often volatile conditions of clients and their living environment - especially when the agency requires a Bachelor degree to be hired, but pays the same as many food service and retail jobs.
Best thing is meeting a variety of personalities and being able to help with their struggles. It is a mutually rewarding job.

You are bullied, you are never heard, you are put down and demanded to work well over your scope of practice. The CEO is so out of touch with the reality of what it takes to be working in the mental health field, The man gets up at every all-staff meeting and talks about himself. RUN DO NOT WALK to your next job. Workplace culture is depressing and quite frankly toxic. There is little to no consistency between medical and counseling. I worked here for well over 8 years. The only upswing is you work side by side with passionate co-workers who believe in making people's lives better. They leave you in an unsafe environment and have no regard for your wellbeing. AGAIN RUN DO NOT WALK. The hardest part of the job is dealing with the constant barriers leadership put in your way to truly treating the patients with dignity. They can not compete with other mental health agencies in Summit County, so they favor portage county leaving Summit county understaffed and unsafe. The staff turnover is high, and access to space to meet or contact your patient is limited. Again the CEO is out of touch and cares little for your well-being. The pay is grossly under what you could make at other agencies.   

Working at the crisis center, I definitely felt that I made a difference in many different ways. Being that this was the first job, in this type of work, that I have had; it has been a great place to gain knowledge and experience in this type of career. That being said, many people have to remember that this is a not-for-profit organization. You will not get paid what you feel you may deserve. There will be times that they will be very short staff due to that fact and this can make the job very stressful or seem overwhelming. I can only speak for the crisis center portion of this organization. Here, you will definitely have job security and possibly opportunities of moving up, as they say. Yes, work hours and time off is flexible. However, back at being short staff, coverage is hard to find for certain departments. All in all, you can learn a lot here. Not only about mental health/SUD but yourself and what you see career wise for your future. You definitely have to be here for the right reasons to work at Coleman. I worked here for four years and honestly wouldn't take those years back if I could.

Hired quickly with two-week shadow before assigned own clients. Watched training videos during downtime as case load filed out over first months. Assigned caseload of 50ish clients to manage in short time. Steep learning curve as client will ask questions regarding almost anything. Supervisors are good and knowledgeable people. The very high turnover and unpredictable nature of working with a population with functional deficiencies due to mental illness and exposure to poor hygiene, bedbugs, and lice in personal vehicle were major challenges. enjoyed the real-life learning experience. I believe future counselors would find this role essential to their professional development. Also, I believe if perspective police where require to experience this job role prior to entering law enforcement the US would experience a civilizational leap forward.

You will be over stressed and uncompensated for your time and efforts. Coleman perpetuates this rhetoric that "everyone is not cut out to do this" because of the high expectations and demographic you will deal with. The upper management politicizes this sentiment to brainwash their employees into becoming work horses for government reimbursement. Everything about this company is wrong. They use humanitarian taglines to promote their agendas and do not follow through on anything they say they are doing for clients and employees. They is no comprehensive programs or healthy culture in this workplace. Move on. Do not work for this company. The only positive is that the people you work with are all hardworking/dedicated people who really want to impact the world for the better. The company is unethical and has a poor infrastructure. 

Coleman makes a certain amount of sense to me; direct services see clients and have limited to no other responsibilities and managers see little to no clients, and handle the things that keep direct service staff from being able to focus on clients. You don't end up with a million responsibilities that take away from how you are empowered to make money. Separately, after your goal is reached (reasonably set), they pay you accordingly if you're seeing additional clients. 

If you like various responsibilities to mix your day/week up, this may not be the job for you, but most managers could cobble something together. If you got into the field to focus on seeing clients and being compensated for it, you should seriously consider at least interviewing to learn more. It's the most transparent company I've ever worked for.
