A typical day at work varies: you may be with a client who needs your eyes on them every second or you could be with a client who prefers you to entertain yourself. Being a caregiver has helped me learn a lot of great new skills for working with clients in a home health setting. The management is set up so you have a care manager above you who you bring your concerns to. In my experience I was left with unresolved issues and the inability to take action, since it was not my place to give my opinion or talk to the family or the client. The workplace culture is great in—office, but otherwise lacking, since it is a largely caregiver:client interaction job. If you know this going into the job then it is what you expect.

The hardest part of being a caregiver is coming into a new home nearly every shift  and having to assimilate. This is also the best part of the job, since it allows you to develop new skills.

Overall, I rated this job a 4/5 because it is a great company, that pays you well. It is a great starting point if you wish to become a CNA, an RN, or any other health care job. I was able to get some experience under my belt and build my confidence as a caregiver.

Commonwise has been a wonderful experience for me. The pay is absolutely phenomenal in comparison to other companies. But, most importantly the managers and my co-workers are incredibly supportive and helpful which really makes Commonwise a wonderful place to work. They go out of their way to make sure you and the client have the best fit and are very flexible with you. If you have any questions or concerns they are more than willing to work with you and help. 

Additionally, what the company does to support the caregivers and the care that I’ve seen fellow co-workers give to the clients has been extraordinarily thoughtful and holistic. As both a caregiver in my professional field and in my personal life, I would highly recommend commonwise as both a place to work and a place to seek compassionate care for your loved ones.

I enjoyed working in private care, because no day was the same. I liked helping the folks I worked with. I really enjoyed the flexible schedule, and that one week I could work lots of hours, and then the opposite week, I could work less (which was good for my visitation w/ my kids). There were at times some clients that were more difficult than others, but every new case added to my experience as a Caregiver. I was promised that I would receive a "PCA" certificate after a certain number of hours, that I never acquired. That's my only real complaint. And at times, it was physically and emotionally draining working with sick people.

Get as many hours as you want and great company they have someone to help and answer your questions if any concern 
Very professional company

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I would say having to grab the jobs on your text messages 
Would rather of had a set schedule myself with a client so that they could be comfortable with the aid 
But I will say I only worked here for maybe 2 months so I’m not for certain if it was an option to get a set schedule

Great clients and very professional office management 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
If you wanted hours you got them if you wanted a few you got those

What is the best part of working at the company?
No comment. Working with this company was short lived due to minimal communication. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No communication on what is wanted from the company for the position I had. No follow-up. No support from the Charlottesville office to support the territory in Virginia Beach

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is laid back. Culture is supportive if working in the territories that have developed business, not supportive for a new territory 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Not sure of what is expected of me in my position. Lack of communication and support from the leaders

If you are looking for employment with a flexible schedule, opportunities for training for higher pay rates and a rewarding job with friendly clients and even friendlier staff and management, Commonwise is your place! The hiring recruiter is very approachable, kindhearted and easy to talk too. The CEO takes this business seriously and cares greatly for providing high quality care to all clientele working with Commonwise. The care managers are always available (like literally always, there’s a 24/7 line) to answer questions or provide helpful information before, during, and after your shifts. Not to mention, the caregivers are just as important, appreciated, and respected by the staff as their clientele, which truly makes it a joy to be part of the team.

I've worked Commonwise for 2 years on top of being a full time student and the flexibility has been amazing. Choosing your own schedule and availability is perfect with other commitments or responsibilities. You can have the option of working with the same or different clients, and both experiences have been incredibly meaningful and rewarding. The culture and team is all about compassionate care and they truly care about you as an employee. The care team is very responsive and great at communicating with us. I share this sentiment all the time with other students in the area and every student I know that has worked for Commonwise has also loved it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They support caregivers &  will adjust if there is a general emergency.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Will ask to much and expect to much  12 hr day is a lot & hard to get 8 hr shifts.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
None ! Example this Christmas parties but when you work a 12 hour shift, they don’t care about the person who’s working the 12 hour shift you missed the Christmas party & any other party 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hr days  there is none  and you are on your own.

I joined Commonwise this summer.  I have never worked at a place like this before.  They treat me with respect and Everyone is so NICE - not fake nice, but REAL nice.  They say they care about the care givers and are there to support them (like every other home care provider!) but they really do.  They call before and after shifts, send thank you notes, and have receptions at the office because they want to get to know the caregivers - like as people.  This goes a long way with me.  Everyone here seems to enjoy their jobs - so the good attitude is infectious.  This is the best group of people I have ever worked with.  I feel so blessed.

I love working for Commonwise! I have/had been a stay at home mom and caregiver for my grandmother for years. After my grandmother passed away I decided that I wanted to start working with a company that aligned with my values and agreed that everyone deserves compassion, care, and dignity especially during their most vulnerable times in life. I truly believe that I have found that in this company. They work diligently to insure that caregivers that actually care are hired and pay them accordingly. I really couldn’t have asked for a better company to work for.
