The worse part of working for Community Health Resources definitely was the human resources. They are incredibly biased and unfair. No matter what your issue is, human resources here (Windsor Connecticut) location will always tell you to "follow chain of command." This is just an excuse to blow you off and get rid of you because they clearly don't wwant to be bothered with doing there job. There were a few times when I went to human resources in this company with complaints of harassment and even discrimination. Human resources shrugged every single complaint off - minimized every single issue and then had the nerve to turn around and suggest that I was the problem "for being unprofessional" by complaining to them? Wait.....what?? I thought that was what human resources was for: to be able to have an honest and open dialogue and get assistance with employee relations issues?? Sure fooled me though... definitely not the case here at Community Health Resources. The whole human resources - especially executive leadership is really snobby and full of themselves. The only time you will ever see human resource s around is when it's time for this Hartford Courant "best workplace" (yeah right...) contests. Then all of a sudden you will see their presence to try to win that contest. No other time, throughout the entire year however will they be visible and definitely not available for guidance and support. Human resources in this company is 100% NOT an advocate for the emplloyee. They will do only what is ordered of them by top executive management - even if it's unethical or unfair. So for me, that was the worst part of my whole employment: unfair and biased human resources who was unable to remain neutral and objective without constantly scapegoating people when they actually did try to use HR for assistance or support.

I have moved around to several different positions within CHR and find, that at least in the programs for which I have worked, that the my coworker are great and so far have had really good direct supervisors. I have learned a lot in my time at CHR. Sometimes upper management is out of touch with the demands of the jobs, but I feel they do try to accommodate as best they can. There is a good work life balance,  and while expensive, the benefits are good (though the recent change of health insurer SUCKS). I wish companies would just stay with the better quality insurer even though it is more expensive. As it has happened for me I have found providers I like only to have the company move insurer and lose access to those providers :( . Otherwise, I do find CHR is a good place to work and I believe that the majority of staff and direct supervisors (that I have worked with) have the best interest of the clients in mind. I like that the company as a whole strives to live up to its mission statement. Unlike with other case management jobs, I leave the job at work and don't take it with me.
However, there is limited ability to move up, mostly just lateral moves, unless you have a Master's or higher degree and the pay seems to be lower than other non-profits for the higher degree's. Benefits are so-so in terms of cost and what you get. New health insurance provider is terrible. Given the high stress nature of the work that we do, waiting five years for three weeks vacation seems excessive, but the holidays and time off are similar to what other nonprofits in the area offer.

A typical day at CHR, I was basically on my own; relying on my own schedule.  There was a daily meeting where staff came together and spoke about the status of our clients that we had seen that day and those we saw over the weekend. I learned a lot of the combination of some medications and alcohol and their affects.  
I learned about the process of phoning 911 and when to call. Other areas I became familiar with was learning about clients' mannerisms and how to deal with them. Management were easy to work with.  My supervisor encouraged me to work with the clients and assist them with housing and case management tasks because I was interested in becoming a case manager. 
The workplace culture was diversified. We had two clients on our roster that I worked closely with. these two gentlemen were from other countries which I was recognized for working well with. 
The most difficult part of the job for me was when I went on vacation and having other staff divvy up my work between them.  Coming back from my trip and getting back to where work was left off, was very stressful. I just had to just pick up and figure it out. There weren't notes on my desk as to who did what. 
The most enjoyable part of the position was the ability to give back to the people in need. It felt great to be able to help people with their daily living skills; budgeting, nutrition, setting a schedule, talking to them when they were sad and/or had a problem that they needed help with.

Most of my employment here was good. The pay and benefits were very competitive. The work was meaningful and full of purpose. I grew a lot as a clinical professional and learned so many effective clinical interventions. Dealing with HR however wasn't good at all. HR here does not value the importance of employee relations. First off they aren't accessible. You can't ever reach HR for assistance. But when you finally do reach them they make it very clear that you are a bother to them. HR doesn't assist with employee relations. Or other problems of your employment. Instead of helping they just shoo you away and tell you to follow the chain of command. They obviously have more pressing bureaucratic priorities to attend to and the people working for them is clearly a dead last priority. I don't feel like the HR leadership at CHR (Windsor Connecticut office) is very competent at their job. And they aren't very professional or respectful either. They only care about pumping up the company's image instead of helping staff resolve workplace issues. That was the biggest disappointment for me working here at CHR. And that's the reason for the one star review. HR here was that bad I felt like the company should've done something to address this but didn't. Everything else was good though: benefits and pay and team camaraderie. Just the HR leadership was the one thing that was so disappointing. The leadership of HR here needs to be scrapped and brand new HR leaders brought in. That would be my best suggestion.

In home clinical teams are expected to work well beyond a 40 hour work week.  Program managers/directors seem to have been behind a desk for too long and expect clinical staff to wear too many hats resulting in burn out and frustration.  Productivity is your only job security although many demands of the job make it impossible to meet productivity as you will be told over and over again that making productivity is a necessity for job security.  When you express frustration program managers are non-understanding of the demands of the job which include several non-billable services that don't count towards productivity and but are required to meet clients needs making it more of 7 day a week 60 hours a week work week.  Upper management does not look into direct complaints against program managers besides notifying program managers of complaints made against then putting program managers into retaliatory actions that even when brought back to upper management are ignored.  No support besides co-workers even during crisis situations.

Community Health Resources use to be a good company to work for now the main focus is on productivity and maximizing employee work. Also the management is not always ethical or fair I went to human resources for help but they didn't do anything to help me. They gave me the runaround, provided lots of lip service yet nothing changed or improved with my situation. So basically my only other choice was to quit. The human resources directorship was my biggest disappointment here at Community Health Resources, the only time I saw anybody from human resources was like maybe once a year when it was time to fill out those Hartford Courant best workplace surveys - which honestly I don't feel this company really ever deserved. The only thing which I truly believed human resources cared about was promoting a falsely good company image like trying to make the list of best employers in Connecticut to work for. However they did actually nothing to really prove it was a good place to work because they didn't do their job very well in my opinion. Nothing was done about my situation, this was such a huge disappointment for me working here I honestly thought it would be a good place to work but it really wasn't.

A truly horrible agency. I worked in a few programs/departments over approx 4 years  & each time was highly disappointed in lack of support from immediate supervisors up to program directors to HR. Human Resources did not support me when I asked for help after exhausting regular chain of command. Even when they fired the person who was problematic-it was still never validated to me that is wasn’t me, it was them. I was  made to feel that I was the problem. Which was the last straw for me &  prompted me to finally resign. CHR is run like a factory- especially AOP - & more specifically Manchester. It’s all about numbers- seeing more clients w/out regard to QUALITY of care or well being of the clinicians. They burn clinicians out, they leave & get a new batch to start over again. Clients see a minimum 3 clinicians during their tx course- some more than that.  This is very difficult for those struggling w/their mental health to have to continuously start over w/some one new.  They’ve lost over 12 clinicians since April, this is significantly high.  I would NOT recommend working here (could be a place to work if you need clinical hours for licensure -then run!!!) nor would I EVER refer a client here for care. Never. 

Hardest part of job was having zero support from HR. They are not for the employee: only for upper management and the employer. The HR governance: particularly at the highest levels of Community Health Resources, Incorporated is very sketchy. I reported a number of unethical work practices to HR here. Just a few weeks later, the standard harassment and targeting began. I've honestly never been so sickened with any other HR governance except here in this organization. HR is definitely not your friend, will turn around and stab you in the back and turn the tables on you in a second! Don't trust HR: that's the hardest part of this job. The one thing I learned while working here is how to navigate through very difficult employment practices and policies which are not parallel to my own. Yet if I could name only one positive benefit to work at this organization: it was the relationships I built with my clients. I truly miss many of them and hope they are doing well. So many of my clients taught me so much about resilience and overcoming adversity. They were my inspiration and my daily joy.

The worst part of this company was human resources. They represent only the company's best interests. But they are not fair or objective in hearing all the facts. Human resources for CHR (Windsor Connecticut company) will always 100% take management's side even if they are dead wrong or behaving in an illegal manner. This happened to me so many times in which I went to human resources for assistance at CHR... only to have my concerns blown off and minimized. I honestly feel like human resources main purpose and goal here at CHR is just to protect the company and definitely not to objectively support employees. These were the sleaziest and most unethical so called human resources "professionals" who I'd ever encountered throughout my whole career. Leadership in particular for CHR human resources in Windsor Connecticut is beyond patronizing and disrespectful and dismissive... they obviously need to go back to school and learn the basics of HR 101

The salaries are not competitive anymore. They're not flexible around compensation and the pay structure leaves much to be desired. The benefits are average. The free trainings are one of the biggest perks. You really don't need to pay for trainings. The quality of the trainings varies widely, but most are good. Getting CEUs isn't a problem. 

The other is that work life balance isn't as much of a priority as it should be. They do cutsie things like yoga, meditation and dance classes that a few people are able to enjoy. Most people are expected to work very hard and sometimes even long days in the interest of meeting productivity requirements. The money isn't reinvested into back into the staff as well as it could be. CHR does have some of the most beautiful buildings of any not for profit. It is nice to have a clean, attractive building to utilize but it definitely shows the priorities.

The trainings are all free and done in-house. That's probably the best perk.
