Promotions are not merit based or given to deserving candidates at each site. They seem to have folks they favor and place them into house management when they do not have the leadership skills, communication skills or ability to serve as a model to their staff. 

There also is a bit of nepotism - family members of house managers working as staff at those houses. This seems to me a conflict of interest but upper management seems to have no issue with it as they just want bodies to staff the houses. 

The hiring criteria needs to be stricter; it feels like they hire anyone who fits their bare requirements. Many people hired are extremely lazy and lack decent work ethic - but if the manager likes you, there is no disciplinary action. The company gives raises to DSP staff company wide every year, so there's no incentive to actually care about the job when you know you'll get a raise anyway. 

There are also a few work life balance boundaries for some managers. They and other staff text and text and text and call staff when they are not on shift. This is my personal phone - I recieve no compensation from the company for it and I should not feel obligated to address issues when I am off the clock.

I worked at community systems Inc for several years. Save yourself the trouble and do not work here. They make the jobs position sound wonderful, but they entice you to work for them and then completely ignore you once you work there. Many people that work there are nice, but the upper management of the company is horrible. The mission of the company is to bring people with disabilities happiness. They do the bare minimum, for both the people they support and their employees. They do not answer any emails, despite the upmost importance. they only handle situations when they become absolutely emergent. They are a terrible company to work for. After working for them throughout the pandemic, they fired me for not getting the vaccine (despite having a doctors note). They also fired all individuals who had true medical and religious exemptions, and forfeited a covid bonus from the state of MA that we were entitled to for working during that time. I did meet wonderful people and enjoyed working with the people supported. However, it was not worth the hassle and terrible treatment from upper management. Save yourself… and run. 

Serving as the Primary Counselor for individual supported.

Coordinating individual services and program operations with the Case Manager and providing necessary summary reports and other documentation in a timely manner.

Supporting each individual to interact with the community, in vocational, recreational, family, religious, social and other activities.

Ensuring that individuals supported receive medication in a manner which promotes accuracy in dosage, method of delivery, timeliness, record keeping and documentation in accordance with state standards of nursing practice.

	Ensuring client’s safety, by whatever approved means necessary.


I support individuals with disability in a group home , it challenging dealing with different behaviors at the same time. I leaned to be patience with every individual since they all have a different way of communication. My main priority is the people i am hired to support so i always make sure my co-workers and I do our job to support the individuals. the most enjoyable part is you learn to love. i leaned how to document  and report on a timely manner

The core of what CSI does is great.  They take care of a population who really needs supports and their mission is on point. But their practices are so outdated and they are too insecure to change so they are stuck managing the company in ways that no longer serve the needs of employees and they have no appetite for change.  Go somewhere where you will get a raise and where you will be truly appreciated rather than given a box of stale Girl Scout cookies and a card.  

Working for the supported persons was amazing, rewarding, and fun. However management was atrocious.
We (my team in my house) was so short staffed our manager had us picking up hours and working 50+ hours a week (per staff member). Threatened us with write ups because we didn't want to break company policy (3rd shift wasn't allowed to drive or pass meds unless it's an emergency, but we were driving and passing meds). Told us we would be written up if we called out. 
The summer before I left I was pregnant and came down with a stomach bug, followed by the flu. My manager wouldn't help me find coverage and threatened me with write ups and a chat with the executive director if I didn't come in. 
I worked up until 11 days before I gave birth and the manager made rumors about me that I purposely went out "early" to mess up her scheduling.

It was a decent place to work. You really have to trust and rely on your co-workers as the job needs everyone's cooperation and involvement. If someone is lazy or fails to fulfill their duties, it will weigh on others and make things more difficult.

I assisted adults with intellectual disabilities in a group home to reintegrate back into society as contributing members in their communities and social groups. During my time at CSI, I managed clients' finances, personal, and medical records. Each shift I would administer medications and carried out treatments as ordered by nutritionist and physician.

Once a month I would help formulate assessment plans for residents to achieve their short term and long term goals per their individual support plans.

For potential employees who will be hired into the HR role for CSI VA. The company needs to do a better job with training and transparency of all the HR job duties. Coming from pro profit organizations, there was a lot of differences in processes of HR tasks. For example, when they say maintain employee files, coming from a pro profit organization that meant to me your regular I-9, tax forms signed polices. But with CSI VA, their counselors need to renew almost all their certifications on a monthly basis, lots of paper work needed to refiled on a monthly basis. All their benefits needed to be tracked manually. Their HR system is nothing but a repository of data, the reporting component of the system is severely inadequate.

In the home that I managed was a fun home.  Co-workers was a joy to work with and a driving force of help, fun ideas, creative ways to communicate with all persons supported.  The persons living in this home took wonderful vacations, very active in their community and great family involvement.  When there was no family, everyone took turns taking them to their home for family involvement.  The hardest part of this job was to understand the cycle of life then helping everyone in the home to accept the loss of a family member.  Working thru this process and keeping the family member alive in their hearts.

I am fortunate to have worked for CSI now for almost 16 years and 19 collectively. I started as a DSP 22 years ago and went on to nursing school and came back as a healthcare coordinator and now I am the Director of Nursing. Our Executive Director is an amazing woman and there is so much love everyday at work. This pandemic has certainly been challenging for everyone but I see how much our employees mean and are appreciated. If you are a caring person and are honest then you will be given opportunities to grow. I feel that everyone I work with is very easy to get along with. 

I joined Community Systems Inc. at the start of 2022. This was a difficult time for all agencies coming out of a two-year pandemic, however Community Systems Inc. has continued to create a positive environment for the people supported and the staff who have ensured continuity of care. I enjoy the collaboration and creativity that this company offers, as well as the flexibility within my schedule to ensure a work/life balance.
