I had a typical 8am-5pm hybrid work schedule. I didn't feel like my schedule was very flexible even if they said it was. Usually there were tasks laid out for our team to complete on a calendar and we didn't get the ability to plan our own day. This was my first job in HR and I essentially learned nothing here. Most of the tasks were super repetitive and mind numbing, or so confusing that they were hard to complete even by senior employees. No one ever seemed to be on the same page. I disliked management; I felt like no one could give me a straight answer, were fake, and unorganized. Most of the employees were really nice and welcoming. The company attempts to build community through engagement, but I wasn't very interested. The hardest part of my job was dealing with my supervisor and coworkers,  there was a lot of micromanaging and misunderstandings. I felt like I was under a microscope the whole time because my supervisor would give me the 3rd degree during meetings and ask me what I was doing even after telling me I didnt need to keep track of what I was doing. I guess they run reports to try and keep track or have IT monitor what you're doing . I felt like I was in a prison because there are security cameras and locks on most of the doors in my location. You need a badge to use the elevator, I'm suprized there wasn't a lock on the bathroom door. I constantly felt like I was being watched and monitored even when I was working remotely. I would always leave for lunch because I felt like I was on lockdown, even to just sit in the parking lot was better than staying in the building. I think the company tries to help take care of employees with development plans and benefits within the office, like break areas and the cafe. They try to give bonuses with goals in mind and the amount of your bonus depends on how well you complete all the goals. The only joy I felt was when other employees would thank me for helping them. I felt like they really weren't doing a very good job supporting care givers and their clients. I hated working here and I don't ever plan on going back.

Pros: The clear work hours come with some flexibility, allowing you to make up time during lunch or adjust your schedule as needed within those work hours. If you connect with management, they are very understanding about personal needs, including the option to bring your kids to work even if they are loud and disruptive. The team culture is attempted — everyone is friendly and there are regular bonding attempts every Friday to unwind and connect for 15 minutes. The added bonus of being able to listen to music or watch videos with headphones makes the workday even more bearable.
Cons: If you're looking for a place to simply get work done, this may not be the right fit. Management operates in cliques, and training is minimal and often inaccurate, leaving you with little support. If you make a mistake — or even if you don’t — supervisors tend to shift blame to make themselves look better, without offering apologies, even if you provide proof. When you need clarification, the supervisor will ask redundant questions, demand excessive screenshots, and then go to their boss for answers, which can take a day or longer.

The company culture values socializing over individual work preferences. If you're quiet or don't engage in office socializing, it’s seen as a lack of communication skills. Asking questions or offering opinions can be interpreted negatively, and if you speak to HR or management about issues, expect your concerns to be discussed behind your back before they take out their negative feelings about it on you.

On the flip side, if you become part of the social clique, you can get away with doing minimal work and skipping shifts. However, opportunities for advancement are non-existent as most people are new to the company and reluctant to leave. Overall, the environment can be toxic and lacking in transparency, especially for those not willing to conform to the social dynamics.

In the last few months high level directors and mangers and leads have quit. Instead of addressing this the company’s executives carry on the same. 

This company has a major culture problem. 

HR is irrelevant. Directors and Managers are the ones who hire, and advance employees. They do not posts positions. This leaves things open for nepotism, and resentment. HR should be the ones handling it. They should also handle other issues like discipline, and conflicts. Not the Managers and Directors. Their job should be about production. Not personnel issues.

It is also clear the Board is oblivious to the problem. All they did was put one of the same people who allows this culture back in charge. 

I would not expect this company to survive unless they focus on a better culture. To realize that HR is important, and they should allow HR to be roll they are supposed to be. They need help with morale. They need to help with equal treatment and training of employees. Pay is not equal to all and not enough for the stress workers have to deal with. They fail at so much that you would think they would realize that over all the issues come from poor leadership.

Employees Don't Quit Their Job; They Quit Their Boss!

The President, the Board, the Directors are at fault. They need to invest in hiring help to address the culture and make the changes that will create a healthy competitive job environment, and they will see the success they imagine. But I feel they are all arrogant and would probably laugh off the idea of leadership and management seminars, and tools that could turn this place around. My money is on they won’t. Avoid working here. It’s too toxic to fix. And the pay is horrible for the amount or stress.

Reading other reviews validates mine. They must have someone post fake positive reviews to balance things out. This is a great example of how instead of dealing with the problems they will try to cover it up. 

Accepted a job being told Consumer Direct was new to Florida and there would be 'some overtime'.  Went in the first day for almost 11 hours.  The only reason I was able to leave was cause an employee went up to the program manager and basically told her there's no reason I should be sitting around the office and I should be able to go home and she finally let me go.  Had the employee not said anything i probably wouldve been there another hour or two being unrecognized. This program manager resigned my first day on the job as I was told she was set to make an announcement, fortunately I wasnt there long enough to see this happen.  I was told earlier in the day, the next 2 days I should expect AT LEAST 12 hour days, thats at about 35 hours of work in 3 days, with 2 more days left which I assume wouldve been another 10-12 hours each.  'Some overtime' is not 60-65 hours a week daily at compensation of mid 30's.  A fellow employee advised me of such long hours which I appreciated.  I shouldve known there was a catch and a reason why they offered me salary and at sadly a respectable rate for this god awful Southern Florida economy.  Overall just very unprofessional on Consumer Directs part, especially since I had another job lined up to start on this day which I turned down to work for Consumer Direct. I emailed the boss of my program manager with my concerns and received no email back. I suspect this was just 'another day in the office' for him and they probably are use to this and there is heavy turn over. At least be honest with those you interview of what the job will consist of, itll save both parties time and hassle. Based on the way they treat employees and handled this situation, I suspect their business practices are just as shady.

Consumer Direct is a very good company to work for.  They care about their employees and equally care about their clients.  They provide very good training and appreciative of your dedication.  A typical day starts with assisting the individual with hygiene matters, as bathing, getting dressed, cleaning the bedroom, providing breakfast, giving medication.  Afterwards, providing day entertainment, learning experiences as paying for items at the store, getting the appropriate change, and how to keep track of money. I also take them into the community and participate with social groups and community activities.  I allow them to assist with preparing for lunch, teaching them what they can eat (according to diet), to keep their hands clean when dealing with foods and taking their medication after meals.  I also spent a lot of time with their family and friends, and ensuring they are at scheduled appointments on time.  I was also responsible for reporting all daily activities to my company as required.  I completed all classes to be able to work with intellectually disabled people in order to be licensed under Consumer Director Services.  The hardest part of the job is when an individual gets sick or when the individual's family is unavailable when they want to spend time with them.  The most enjoyable part of the position is when I see them smile or when they give me a hug and say thank you.

Unless you are taking care of a family member, there are better places to work. I started working here to become a paid caregiver for my grandmother. The starting pay was $10/hr, and do not ever expect to get a raise unless the state minimum wage goes up. For clients, they try to pair you with the exact opposite of what you think you will  be a good match for (for example, I had a disabled obese patient and another bed-bound patient that were located centrally near me, and when management found out the patients were requesting more shifts with  me, I was placed with two new different clients, this time one in Sahuarita, the other in extremely northwest Oro Valley. So on the weekend, I would do a four-hour opening shift (8a-12p) with 45 minute drive to/drive home and then head back to close (4p-8p). I eventually left the company to try and find work with a temp agency, and this route was much more financially compensating than "caregiving" (basically being a nurse without the support, respect, or compensation. I found a job (temp to hire) that was fantastic and was willing to work around my school schedule when I went back to college that also offered tuition reimbursement. I really recommend just staying away from this company.

Going from in peer support to a care worker job the difference in pay for me was almost 15,000$ a year.  Though the job is absolutely worth while and gratifying where you feel you’re making a real difference for someone who had no choice in how they were born, the job itself is paid horribly. I had to move back in with my parents because I couldn’t afford to pay for my car and my apartment together much less my utilities and internet and phone, food and gas. And I’m working full time. What bothers me most is in a job where you’re helping and caring for people who deserve it the most, the true value of that work in the eyes of who pays your wage shows. This is a dream job but I won’t be able to keep doing it because you can’t support yourself on it much less another person. I really hope care-work in the state of Idaho becomes more valued. Because as of right now it simply isn’t. The pay and expectations will not attract the best kinds of workers and I know families who have dealt with people who were willing to do the work but ended up being horrible with the special needs individual. And and when that work is with special needs individuals, that is scary. I write this in the hopes that it can someday be a job that is a career choice. As there are few careers that give you a sense of purpose as this one. But that doesn’t mean you should not expect to be paid a livable wage.

`i was eager to get to work every morning and start my work day with my client. i always had fun and enjoyed being part my clients biggest help. making his days go by smooth with no problems what so ever just made mine and his day the best. i learned that helping others is a great way to live life happier for both you and your clients/patients. i learned to manage my priorities along with my work very well, which are spending time with my children and taking my children to meet my patient at work aswell. as for coworkers i was THE personal caregiver at the time thoughout my employment there, so i didnt get to associate with any other coworkers. for me as in the hardest part of the job was at 1st when i started, i had to get used to the wieght of my patient and be sure in the way that i tranported him to and from his wheelchair and on to his bed, especially when bathing time was given, but soon after, it didnt take long to catch on and get used to handleing his weight, it was a piece of cake, BUT ALWAYS TAKE EXTREME CAUTION AT ALL TIMES. i can say that the most enjoyable part of this job was my patient, he was always a charm to work with, always making me smile and me doin the same for him. he was really an expirence in my caregiving experience i wont ever forget.

This was a temporary position that was through a staffing agency for a little over 2 months but during this tenure I served in the position of Administrative Coordinator assisting clients and caregivers with the process of applying to the program and what the requirements were to be enrolled.  I also assisted the Support Brokers with their clients when they were working from home on days that they were required to work by answering their questions of eligibility, payroll issues, completion of documents and field visits that were required by their case managers and support brokers.  Overall this was a great work experience and I was able to learn their programs and procedures very fast and knowledgeable enough to train my replacement. I assisted clients with preparation of company handbook that guided the participant and their caregivers with the rules and regulations that were required to folllow company guidelines.  I did daily intake of timesheets for accuracy before being scanned and emailed to off site main corporate office for accurate pay & pay period,

My tenure at CDCN was a distressing ordeal that compels me to shed light on the company's alarming shortcomings, aiming to caution prospective employees. The work environment is profoundly toxic, marked by deficient communication and collaboration, fostering a hostile atmosphere that erodes productivity. Leadership at CDCN exhibits abysmal management, with a conspicuous lack of employee support and a stifling micromanagement style that impedes creativity and individual development. Transparency is sorely lacking, adversely affecting the company culture. Employee well-being is neglected, evidenced by subpar benefits and a dismissive HR department that seems more concerned with stifling criticism than addressing concerns. CDCN's approach to professional development is disappointing, with limited training opportunities and advancement tied to personal favoritism. My experience was rife with frustration and disillusionment, prompting a strong warning for potential employees to carefully consider joining this company due to its toxic environment, ineffective management, and dearth of growth opportunities.
