Start day varies according to her schedule and mine. I get her up, get her dressed, get her breakfast ready, give her the medications by crushing 2 pills and mixing with yogurt. Also prepare Carnation instant breakfast to help to wash down the pills. Do dishes if needed, make the bed, fill humidifier with water, vacuum or dust when necessary, also clean the bathroom. Take her at least weekly for a fingerstick for the control of her coumadin dose. Come back late afternoon to fix supper, give her the medications again, empty wastebaskets and recycling. Get her ready for bed. Do dishes if needed. Set up the med box for the next day. Do the laundry 2 x's a week, fold and put away the laundry. Do grocery shopping as needed. Make telephone calls to set up appointments as needed. As I have taken care of her for over 11 years we have become best friends and enjoy doing many of the same things. We also enjoy most of the same foods so it makes it easy to prepare meals as I generally eat supper with her at her request because she feels she will eat a better meal when she eats with me. Because of this we split the grocery bills. Also bathe her as needed.

Set your own schedule. Pick the clients you will take care of and the amount of travel you have to do. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some clients are more difficult to satisfy. Making it stressful in trying to keep them in a health environment. The client chooses the people working the other shifts and many times they do not show up and I had to stay over or could be liable for dessertion of caring for the client. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment varies depending on where the client is housed. Could be in a multiple room residence home like a Cilia house or could be in an individual own rented apartment depending of the individuals contract with DORS

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The typical day varies depending on the individual client's needs. That information is given to you before you agree to work for the client. The work could be easy or it could be very hard.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My supervisors.  They are all very knowledgeable and helpful.  They are always there for you at anytime.  We are all team players and helping others is what our goal is,. And that is what we all do for our clients. Goal is all about helping them achieve their goal to be more independent.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of the job is when your client doesn't want to be a team player. Makes our job hard and not fun.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Our main goal is to be helpful to our clients.  Making everyday life simple and productive.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My day starts out making breakfast for my client,. Morning chitchat while cleaning up when done.  Run some errands after or laundry when needed.  Light housework,. Then off to lunch.  After lunch finish up with light housework and prepare for dinner.  Prepare dinner and cleanup .  Bookwork if needed and or plans for tomarrrow with client.  Call out and go home.

I enjoyed working for DORS because I was able to take care of my mother when she needed me most, in that they are an amazing resource to have. Once that ended though they drug their feet on finding me a new client until I was forced to look for employment elsewhere. My union rep never called me back after I called them to inform them that I needed a new client and I found it hard to figure out how to do this on my own. Eventually two months later after I contacted them I finally received an email stating that they'd put me on a list. I can't get unemployment because, although I was paid by DORS I technically worked for my mother, so in the end, I was screwed. When I got covid, however, they were great. There are always pros and cons to every work environment. I would recommend this job to others, even with the difficulties. They are a great company to work for if you can get them to call you back when you need something.

A typical day is making sure the patient eats, has a clean home and taking care of anything he or she may need, including needs for their children or pets. While a live in care provider is essentially a 24 hour per day job, I only got paid for a total of 3 hours per day, regardless of the hours. I had to make sure that the patient made it to his appointments every week, which were at a hospital about an hour away. I was not paid for driving, nor compensated for the gas used to get to and from the hospital. Nor was I paid for more than 3 hours of work, even if I left for the hospital at 8 in the morning and got back from the hospital after 5 in the evening. The management does nothing but make sure that you don't go over your allotted hours and if you do, they make sure to call and threaten to take your job away. I get paid below the national poverty line and pay rent to live where I work.

My typical day at work stats off with a good morning and a smile i make sure that we have eye contact so I can see if something is wrong before my day starts.I ask a few questions like how did your night go did you rest well did any thing go wrong sense the last time I was here some times the answer is yes something went wrong and sometimes the answer is no. I have learned a lot about different medications what each pill is for and how to check and see if your sugar is high or low I also learned how to prepare food for a diabetic. I show my client how to manage his money when paying bills and shopping for food. My hardest part of my job was being some one pair of legs.The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing my client happy with a smile every day before I go home knowing my client is happy makes me happy.

You work in the community helping others who are disabled or sickly to maintain living at home instead of facilities.

Is the way that you obtain PTO  and vacation time

It depends on where your client lives and their cleaning and personal hygiene status

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I cook breakfast for my client I do light housekeeping to maintain a clean environment to work in and I change my clients chair before I leave for the end of dhift

On a typical day I would going in and start coffee for her and I too drink. Knowing  I love coffee , it was what started my day out to be good. I never had coworkers due to being her only caregiver . Which was fine by me. That just meant job security. When it came to managing things she want done ,it was pretty complexes. we always had a routine, we did certain  things, for every day of the week I was there.  [ Monday through Friday]. Id say the hardest part of the job was not being be able to go in the next day if she didn't need me. The best part of the day was when we would sit and drink coffee n watch her favorite t.v. shows  I enjoyed hearing all her great story's in life.

I assisted  a woman who was struck with MS just 5 years previous to my hire. It took her ability to walk and she was dependent upon a hoyer lift and other people. I would cook her meals, help her bathe, wash her laundry... I would do the things she was no longer able to do due to her disability.

I worked with her on good days, and I also got to see how it mentally affected her. She would talk to me not only as my employer but also as a friend. 

The hardest part of the job was the lifting the was required. Even though she was lifted by a hoyer, I also had to lift to an extent.

The most enjoyable part of the job was I gained a true friend.

A typical day at work was, making breakfast for my client when I get there then attending to all her needs! What I learned from her is always get up and try even if your at your lowest it wont hurt! The workplace itself was nice the house was always cleaned and everybody was so lean and nice. The hardest part about that job was giving my client her baths they weren't easy, let me tell you! But the Most enjoyable experience for me is spending time with her she was a very nice lady and just very calm and humble about a lot of things and she was into a lot of things I was into as well!
