Direct Orthopedic Care

I recently had an experience with Direct Orthopedic Care, and unfortunately, it left much to be desired. While the medical care itself was satisfactory, the scheduling process for PRN (as-needed) shifts was quite disheartening. It appeared to be marred by what seemed like a blatant display of favoritism.

The scheduling system for PRN shifts appeared to lack transparency and fairness. It felt as though certain individuals were consistently receiving preferential treatment, while others were left struggling to secure shifts. This inequity in scheduling not only affected morale but also seemed to compromise the overall efficiency of the team.

Moreover, the communication within the organization was subpar. Vital information regarding scheduling changes, updates, and other pertinent details often seemed to fall through the cracks. This lack of clear and timely communication not only created confusion among staff members but also resulted in a less-than-optimal work environment.

One of the most significant drawbacks was the inadequate training provided. Staff members appeared to be ill-equipped to handle various situations, leading to instances of suboptimal patient care. The lack of comprehensive training not only affected the overall quality of service but also left employees feeling unsupported and unprepared.

In conclusion, while Direct Orthopedic Care may excel in certain aspects, the issues with PRN scheduling, poor communication, and insufficient training significantly detracted from the overall experience. It is my hope that the organization takes these concerns seriously and implements measures to address these issues, thereby improving the working environment for its staff and enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.

Overall my experience with DOC was awful. I worked there for over 3 years and wouldn’t go back even as a patient. The gossip and drama is worse than any high school and management egged it on. You couldn’t voice your concerns to your boss because she would turn around and tell the other employees that you complained about them. You couldn’t go to HR because HR would tell your boss that you talked to her. The atmosphere was toxic overall and Im surprised I stayed that long. They made us work 12-13 hour shifts without a break or a lunch break. Management would intentionally not be at the clinic when we were short staffed so they didn’t have to help. They didn’t even know how to help! They couldn’t do the job of the employees they oversaw. The HIPAA violations were astronomical. You could see patient names on charts from the lobby and you could hear the providers dictating charts from inside exam rooms. This place needs to be audited and fined for all the violations.

Having someone in my current position is early for a company of this size. They invest heavily in training, education, and skill development. I've never worked for an organization that lives out its values quite this well. Coming up on my 4-year anniversary, I've seen enough to know that the mission is more of a motivation than the executives lining their pockets. They make difficult decisions, always with the team in mind. I plan on being here for quite awhile. I've been happy with the two people I've worked under and felt requests I've made were met with fair responses. I would recommend anyone who wants to work in healthcare - either tenured or new to the industry - consider DOC for employment. 

Unfortunately, I do not believe that any receptionist job will ever be overly enjoyable, but my experience at DOC has been wonderful. I am a full-time college student who was enrolled in 31 credit hours over the last year that I have worked here. The front office manager has been incredibly understanding and accommodating - I was even able to stay working a regular full-time while going to school. Some days are brutal - dealing insurance companies, difficult patients, wait-times, ect... - but it is incredibly rewarding to play a part in a patient's return to ADLs after enduring chronic pain or acute injury. This is a great entry-level job for college students looking to obtain relevant experience in the medical field, and I could not thank DOC enough for all of the opportunities and knowledge that working here has provided me. 

The concept is there but the execution is just bad. It used to be a great place to work last year but over the past months it's going down. More and more employees and providers have been leaving to the point where clinics are understaffed and now have to closed on the weekends. It really comes down to management making wrong decisions that ends up hurting the patients because they don't get the right treatment or it gets messed up with insurance and won't get covered. The general level of happiness with staff across all the clinics is quite low.

DOC is a very new company and has some serious growing pains.  Management doesn't listen and is very disengaged to what the people need to be successful.  They're so focused on the marketing aspect of the business, that they lost sight of what it takes to run a business office.  Serious lack of people to do the job.  Possibly they will turn that around, but the money just isn't there.

I asked HR about raises - merit or cost of living, and was told they're working on it...?!!

I wish them well.  In theory, it's good, but the actions don't show it.

Usually we started our 12 hour work days by arriving at 7:45 am in order to manage what we may need throughout the day, ti continue to help the flow. Being able to come in contact with people of different origins all sharing a same injury or bruise, definitley helped our guests feel right at home without any feeling of true discomfort. The hardest part of the job was just walking away from it. Although, I truly believe God works in mysterious ways and what he has for me I am ready to walk into.

Fantastic opportunity for PAs who want to work at the top of their license and treat a wide variety of orthopedic conditions. Collaborative environment with surgeons, PTs, PAs, clinical teams, management, and patients. 

DOC is unique in every sense of the word. There are growing pains, like with any young company, but direct leadership cares about their people and make treating patients a priority. 

Flexible schedule, top notch pay. 

The management at the time had emphasis in the wrong areas, and quality of staff was secondary to their ability to assimilate to their “culture.” I was also told there would not be raises or annual inflation increases, and only raise would come with a change in job title. Since I have left, manager has changed and that can only be for the better. So hopefully things have improved. The overall business model is a good one, and only wish my experience there was better to have stuck with them. But such is life.

Honestly the worst company I’ve ever worked for. I did not feel valued as a human or employee, just a gear in a greedy machine. Untrained, and sometimes unapproachable management team. No structure, extremely stressful environment to learn in. All of my coworkers felt extreme stress and dreaded going into work each day. Several days we didn’t have time to eat, let alone drink a bottle of water. Each position is insanely overloaded with no help and no pay increase.
