Working here was like a dumpster fire. You never left on time because the owner refused to let us close the doors even on time, we’d have to keep them open 10 minutes after closing time no matter how busy we were or how many patients were waiting. It was not uncommon to see upwards of 40-50 patients a shift. And not just 40-50 easy peasy urgent care patients with sniffles or ear pain, they expected us to run labs, do ultrasounds, etc. Many of these people should be transferred to ER for higher level of care but they wanted us to work up everything before sending them out ($$$). Management is composed of a bunch of 20-somethings who don’t know what they’re doing but are friends with the owner, hence their position in management. They were very immature and formed cliques - not professional at all. The pay was decent, there was opportunity  for small productivity bonuses - but you do have to bust your butt to get them, and they weren’t much. Benefits were awful, and you only accrue 1 week of PTO a year. Small CME allowance, which is also used to cover license renewals and such. The schedule was somewhat flexible, but certain providers definitely got favoritism as far as not having to work weekends, and working certain preferred clinics, etc. There is on call requirements. People who worked hard seldom were recognized, but they kept providers around who were slow (seeing half the amount of patients as the other providers). One positive thing is there was always an on call medical director for any questions or assistance. 

I wanted to take a moment to write a positive job review for the medical assistant position at Duke City. As a current employee, I can confidently say that working here has been truly rewarding. From the moment I joined, I felt supported and valued. My provider is always encouraging and willing to teach me new skills, as are the other staff members. The work environment is overall conducive to growth and learning, with ample opportunities for professional development. The management team is approachable and supportive, always willing to provide guidance and feedback. The emphasis on patient care is evident, and it is inspiring to see the impact we have on improving the lives of our patients. The benefits in my opinion are pretty good, and they offer no-cost care to the employee and their immediate family at all locations (urgent care and primary) besides the med spa, but they do offer significant discounts for this location. Overall, I am grateful to be a part of this organization and would highly recommend the medical assistant position at Duke City to anyone seeking a fulfilling and rewarding career in the healthcare industry.

A typical work day at DCUC is very productive and fast paced, with patients coming in and out for various health needs... As front desk I registered new and existing patients into a system to be checked and seen by a provider this included taking patients personal info checking insurance and taking co-payments from patients this job is laid back but also requires diligence in multi tasking and complete accuracy to maintain HIPPA regulations... while this job is mainly computer work answering phones scanning and faxing you also have to make sure the patients needs are being taken care of this includes providing patients tissue hand sanitizer vomit bags or having one of the EMTS MA RN or anyone qualified to look at open wounds that need bandaging and to also be a friendly face for patients to see when they first walk in and before they leave the door! The hardest part of the job id say was seeing little kids or babies come in and crying if injured or severely sick, while the most enjoyable part of this job was doing my best to take care of a lobby full of patients to the best of my ability!

I love team I work with at Los Lunas, but the company constantly asks for more of you with nothing in return. Rad Techs are required to either do front desk or work as an MA when they don’t have any X-rays; without extra pay. I asked for a raise because I have been doing overtime for 8 months straight and was denied because it wouldn’t be fair to the other techs if I got a raise and they didn’t. Basically they are money pinchers and refuse to rightfully compensate their staff or incentivize them at all, even staff that has been there for YEARS. The only reason I’ve stayed for so long is 1. I love my co workers. 2. The radiology manager is great and communicates and tries her best to fight for the rad techs for whatever the reason may be. That’s it. 
The amount of X-rays I do is anywhere between 10-30+ a day with both urgent care and primary care patients. Los Lunas doesn’t have an xray suite, I use an old GE portable and the quality of images I get for a hypersthenic patient for a lateral chest for example is inadequate. For extremities it’s great though. 

I feel very supported and appreciated in my role as a PA. I am able to practice very independently, but there is always help available when I need it. It is very rewarding that we are encouraged to try to provide all care we feel is within our scope or refer within the organization to provide much needed access to care.

Work load wise, the expectation is to see 2.5 patients an hour, but a great pay structure based on collections is in place which rewards you for your work. 

I appreciate that the company is constantly working to improve patient care and employee satisfaction. I feel heard and truly part of a team. If you are interested in leadership opportunities, there are opportunities there as well even as an advanced practice provider.

My favorite place to work thus far in my career. In a world surrounded by larger corporations, it is so refreshing to work in a family run and family-feel type of environment. I like that we get to see high acuity patients from the Urgent Care setting and the vision is to really empower the providers and teammates to take the best possible care of patients. I enjoy the education program, chart reviews, CME support, and always having someone that I can call to bounce a case off of. This company puts a lot back into their providers. People who excel in this group typically have ER experience or a desire to learn (ample learning opportunities provided), a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. I appreciate that my voice is heard at work and I have good access to my Medical Director who is receptive. 

You will be surrounded by providers who really know medicine and are always available to help.  There is free CME education several times a month and there is always a medical director on call to answer questions.  Salary is very competative for urgent care.  Benefits are so-so.  However, this is a locally owned business that has had rapid growth in the past 5 years and has become a little disorganized.  It was also hit hard by the COVID pandemic.  There have been lots of changes to hours, staffing numbers, and leadership with little notice.  It is often feast or famine.  During lean times, hours can be cut.  During busy season, you can be drowing with little help.  BUT, I think the positives outweight the negatives and this is overall a great place to work

Unique, independently run network that is truly the best place to work in Albuquerque. There are high expectations, but very high investment to the staff members from owners and management. Education program monthly, annual chart reviews, Treatment guidelines provided. ~30 patients per day expecatation (doable with scribe help), many high acuity patients which is great for those of us who have ER background and want to do procedures. Management has recently put in place many needs that were voiced by the staff (end of shift caps to get out on time, changing the hours to reflect more of what the team wanted). Overall a very satisfying, challenging yet supportive position.

I loved working with our patients. I loved my coworkers and the team in Los Lunas.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The amount of work and the work that was added after starting the job without any compensation.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The people in the clinics were amazing. The nursing supervisor expected too much and I ended up working for free to try to keep up and when I complained, they forced me out.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was average about  hrs a day. I felt stuck in the office and isolated.

The company has made a lot of changes over the past year, including changes involving worsening benefits. You have the opportunity to make more money, but due to the high acuity of patients, does not feel attainable. However, there is a lot of support as there is always a medical director on call that you can turn to if needing consultation on patients, as well as other providers in clinic. Clinical staff works hard, and are very friendly. Ultimately the people are great, but the benefits are not. If you don’t rely on them for your benefits, it’s a great job for those that like to see a lot of different things and practice in a fast-paced environment.
