Typical work day as a Technical Support Engineer is to follow up on your tickets and to drive your tickets toward resolution. 

My boss is wonderful - he and the rest of the team assume you're an adult and that you're getting things done even while working from home. Whenever I have a question he responds promptly and has his pulse on how everyone's doing. 

WFH policy is pretty cool - three options: Flex Remote (come in one day/month), Flex Office (come in 2-3 days a week minimum) or fully remote. Your choice. 

Unlimited sick/personal time! Gotta go to the DMV or take your kid to the doctor's? It doesn't count against your PTO time (2 weeks) so even though PTO is only two weeks - those two weeks are purely for when you're out having fun and nothing more. 

As a new employee here - there's a MOUNTAIN of things to learn! As such it can feel pretty overwhelming. However, I feel very well supported by both management and my teammates. They know there's a ton to learn and are patient with you while you ramp up. 

Detroit office is great! Free coffee/beer, cheap vending machines, ping pong, a mini arcade, and did I mention it's literally in Ford Field? 

It's worth mentioning, too, that if you're aiming to get into Dev Ops / Development work - this is a fantastic place to learn. You can take four hours off a week to study/pursue certs and the nature of the job encourages you to learn about code, Docker/Kubernetes along with various platforms such as Azure and AWS. 

If you're skeptical of my review and how positive it is - I'll just say I've worked for many sucky IT companies leading up to this and thus far Dynatrace has been a breath of fresh air. I will, of course, amend my review should that change but I gotta say I feel like they're doing all the right things here, feel well supported, and looking forward to scaling up here.


A private-equity owned, lay-off fueled, jargon machine. 

The company has 5-10 senior employees (out of more than 500) holding the entire suite of products together.

I learned a great deal about how a poorly directed company can be led from the bottom, by talented DevOps teams, utilizing innovative automation techniques, with open source tools capable of adapting to every caprice of a purely sales driven management which lacks vision. 

Dynatrace has a core culture amongst the Ops, Dev, and Support employees which runs almost counter to the stated mantra of executives. It is this culture that has kept the company afloat despite attempts by upper management to sink it through gross incompetence and inconsistent leadership directives.

Dynatrace's management has little idea of what they want to deliver, and even less idea of how to accomplish it. Fortunately, the R&D is capable of delivering what should be impossible because they love the battle of overcoming seemingly insurmountable financial obstacles with acts of technical heroism. 

This review is personal opinion, reflecting only this reviewer's experience.

I was excited about working here- product is cool, industry has potential, and I have confidence in the CEO. But overall, feels like a career demotion. Generally a pretty disorganized company on all levels. Feels like instead of being proactive about what structures should be in place, they are more reacting to the prior leadership styles and going from there. Culture values engineering - I do not feel there is a consistent culture otherwise. My own in-office experience is poor. The benefits are very good. Great slogans/town hall talk but actions speak louder than words - lot of mixed messages at this company. Internal comms are not great. Yes, there are wellness days, but be prepared to be online at all hours the other days, and I feel if I want to be considered a team player, I need to respond to every email in two hours because the company has not established "smart ways" of working - only adding to burn out and constant distractions. 

What makes a great company is the people who work there, and Dynatrace is a great company for that.
The product is definitely competitive and customers see the value of it, which makes our lives easier to engage with customers.
On the other end, as some departments are growing, certain processes don't scale as fast as the internal organisation changes, which makes things difficult sometimes for the employees to perform in the role (limited onboarding, limited training resources, and no clear direction & guidance, no career development plan in place).
The company should look closer into ways to retain and develop their employees.


View current goals of workers, and create performance goals that can become part of their performance evaluations, or development goals that are added to their development plans to help them increase their skill set.The goals can be tracked and updated by workers and managers on the pages where they manage their goals. Goals created in a talent review are not added to the goal library but are added to the workers' profiles as content items.

Work-life balance is encouraged, a good CEO (2023), decent PTO benefits, overall good group of people to work with (outside of ACE Services VP who is a bit of a snot). Was often encouraged to withhold information from customers which made me uncomfortable. I did not feel that this job helped with skills needed to advance my career elsewhere, as everyone is encouraged to expand their knowledge on Dynatrace products. The products themselves seem overly complicated almost strategically, so as to reinforce customers who use the product to utilize consultants at an additional expense. The value of the product itself is also questionable.

Overall good job. Training was basic but adequate. 

Actual job was daunting at times due to the constant pressure of passing a certification test at the end of probation period (6 months).  I personally was told that I would have as many times to take the certification test as needed. 

I spoke with several fellow contractors/employees that mentioned they took 6+ times to take and pass the certification test.  I personally took the certification test twice. After second time, 1099 contract was terminated. 

Much of the certification test was not used in actual job.

 Dynatrace uses proprietary software so very vertical topics on the certification test was required - even if not actually used on the job. 

For people really good at tests, this would be a good long term job. For me, I do better at concepts and using 'on the job training' and learning as I go. 


I have worked for some of the largest names in technology. What makes Dynatrace different is that they realize it takes time to build out a business in field sales.  Most tech companies give you 90 to 120 days to close a deal all while knowing that most sales cycles take 6 months to a year in the enterprise world to close. These companies have about 70% of ALL reps missing quota if you survive the first year. High P/E earning ratios dumped onto the backs of reps that have a 70% chance of failing if they do not quit or get fired at 1 year.  Dynatrace does not have this problem, that is why I picked Dynatrace over my other 2 offers.

Dynatrace has a great work environment and company culture.  The management team is approachable and will help out with any questions that you may have.  They have a better than average compensation plan and offer unlimited sick and personal time.

There is an unlimited earning potential and they provide some of the best sales tools available to the sales team.  The marketing team is not effective and therefore you will be required to generate all inbound leads and spend a large amount of time on prospecting.

Dynatrace is a good place to work if you are trying to get into tech sales. The management is great and they're open to suggestions all the time. Very collaborative environment. You definitely learn how to pitch the product during training and how applications are created. You'll basically be a master at that. There are 2 kegs in the office, and a ping pong room. Managers sometimes buy lunch or ice cream.

If you do your work, make your daily call/email number of 40/40 and show some results you'll have a ton of freedom to do what you want when you want.
