Empower Behavioral Health & Intervention

Empower is a good company for people who want opportunities to grow. One of the things I appreciate most is that leadership is generally supportive and willing to help employees move up within the company if they express interest in taking on more responsibility. Many of the Program Managers and Directors genuinely want to see staff succeed and develop professionally.

Because Empower is still a growing company, there are often changes as the organization continues to expand and improve its processes. While growth creates opportunities, it can also sometimes lead to confusion or a lack of consistency in how things are done.

The biggest areas for improvement are training and overall organization. New employees receive initial training, but ongoing professional development opportunities can be limited. Staff who want to continue growing in their roles would benefit from more consistent mentorship, hands-on training, and skill-building opportunities. As the company continues to expand, there sometimes seems to be a stronger focus on growth and operational needs than on developing employees and enhancing service quality.

Another challenge is that many managers and directors appear to be balancing large workloads and multiple responsibilities. Because of this, support can sometimes be difficult to access when it is needed. While there are leaders who are highly involved and supportive, employee experiences can vary depending on the individual leader. Some staff may receive more feedback when problems arise than they do ongoing coaching, guidance, or recognition, which can make professional growth feel less supported than it could be.

Overall, Empower has a positive culture, supportive leaders, and real opportunities for advancement. With stronger organization, better ongoing training, and more focus on service quality, it has the potential to become an even stronger place to work.


I would not recommend working at Empower Behavioral Health. There are no clear policies or consistent guidelines, which makes it difficult to do your job effectively or feel supported. The benefits are minimal—honestly, the biggest impact on your mental health comes from constantly wanting better for both yourself and the kids, but not being in an environment that supports that growth.

The children are not properly advocated for, especially when it comes to their academic needs, which is incredibly disheartening if you genuinely care about making a difference. HR is also frustrating to deal with, often going back and forth without providing clear or direct answers.

If you’re someone who is passionate about advocacy, growth, and being in a structured, supportive environment, this is not the place for you. However, if you’re okay with settling and being undervalued, then this may be a fit.

Working with the kids and families here is great, and rewarding. However, the higher ups in this company only care about money and there is a lot of micro-managing and a very stressful and toxic general environment. You are constantly critiqued and there is rarely positive feedback or any sense that the management appreciates people. Overall it is one of the most unsupportive environments I have worked in, and especially not family-friendly if you try to have good work-life balance. 

Working at Empower has been an overall good experience. The experience is what you make of it! I feel supported every day from my fellow RBTs, BTs and from my supervisors. I also feel as if the benefits and time off here are better than other ABA companies I have worked at. I’ve also noticed that upper management does a pretty good job of handling internal issues.

 It’s no secret that working with the Autism community is hard, but it’s so so rewarding watching our students grow and progress. Ultimately that is the most rewarding thing for me.

This job can be really enjoyable. It also can feel really stressful. It can feel like staff get forgotten about sometimes but when you ask for support you get it. I work at the new building so I don’t know how it is at their other buildings. The behavior support team is great as they respond very quickly and are happy to teach you as they work through the behavior. I wish the training in the beginning was better because I don’t feel like I learned a lot from it to prep me. Luckily the other staff and supervisors are will help and teach you.

Is mentally and physically tiring. A heathy life balance is required.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typically 3 different clients throughout the day

As far as ABA jobs go, it is consistent. You will get paid that day whether your client shows up or not. There are 5 paid sick days and often days are "blacked out" so you need a doctor's note to take them. Very rewarding work with kids/young adults with behavioral needs, mostly Autism. There are a lot of responsibilities put on you which often leads to a lot of stress.

If you are in your masters needing supervision, the director does not make this a priority and is hard to get along with. Management of the two buildings is poor-the director has too many responsibilities for one person. Currently there is no individualistic training specified for your clients which causes a high burn out rate for all employees. You have to be able to handle tough behaviors. 

I enjoy going to work every day and interacting with similarly minded people.  Everyone here has the client's interest as the number one priority.  With the change in management over the past few years, it is great to see the needs of staff being met.  This is a great place to learn and grow.

I have worked at empower for 2 years and been able to develop professionally throughout the process. They are more than willing to work with you and help you move up in your career. I have great coworkers and supervisors, I couldnt ask for more at a company!
