The best parts about this job are the moments that you get to actually help clients, the wide array of clients you get to work with, and the co workers you meet along the way. Aside from that, there is a lack of on boarding and a lack of ability of management to teach employees what they need to know about their jobs to be successful. There is no separation between work and personal time when you are living in and a part of the communities you are serving and there is a complete inability in management to acknowledge and do anything about this. Management in fact encourages you to exploit every personal connection and moment in the community at all times to be able to meet grant deliverables to make more money for the organization (i.e. the team I worked in was encouraged to invite clients to our own home for HIV testing parties). Examples of the drawbacks to this position include 12 hour days, working through the weekend until 2am and then having to come in at 9am on Monday, unpredictable scheduling, and managers scolding staff for not having a calendar that is up to date to the nearest quarter of an hour and then scheduling meetings on top of other existing work commitments and personal medical appointments because they "don't have time to look at your calendar." There is a lack of processes on how to to things and a swift knee jerk reactions made to punish people for doing things wrong. Underlying all of this is a claim that the organization is there to serve really marginalized groups of people, but the organization does not actually have resources needed in these communities or the ability to retain staff from these communities.

WORST experience of my life. Upper management are the most passive/aggressive individuals I have ever met! They talk to you condescendingly and everything is VAGUE which in my experience is INTENTIONAL so that when they need something to validate corrective actions they use the breadcrumbs they fed you as a tool to use against you. They DO NOT set you up for success they set you up for FAILURE and blame YOU for the consequences of their deplorable “training” antics! If someone TELLS you their learning style and you blatantly disregard and continue to force feed them the way you want them to learn YOU have no business being in a training role you cannot demand someone understand something immediately! Newsflash that’s part of inclusion understanding that different people have very different dynamics if you don’t support staff I feel SORRY for patients iron fisted dismissive statements will NOT generate positive outcomes! The excitement to start on this venture was completely erased within FIVE days of being in the office and it was UPPER MANAGEMENT that confirmed to me that it was NOT a company I wanted to be associated with! I had NO RESOURCES for training for HOURS at a time! It was poorly organized there should have been a MENTOR ONSIGHT EVERYDAY with a CLEAR agenda of what was going to be covered each day! For a company to be focused and driven on INCLUSION its own employees are looked down upon as if they’re the gum they just stepped in! SHAME on everyone that has a hand in making me HATE my opportunity in literally a WEEK of being there! If you want to start a job floundering from day one THIS is definitely the place to go!

The clinical staff members I worked with daily and the community I helped to serve where by far the best part of the job. Everything beyond that was utter disappointment. 

Expected workload is about twice the amount that one person could actually complete in a day. Putting in extra effort and time goes unnoticed and unappreciated by upper management. Mid level management was almost non existing. In my 4+ years with the organization, we rarely had nursing management. We were often missing a clinic manager as well. Staffing was and will continue to be for them because of epicly poor performance by their HR department. The hiring process often takes 4-6 weeks plus. No relevant training is provided. Passionate, hardworking, and dedicated employees are often terminated due to minor issues or chose to give up due to being overworked and underappreciated. 

I learned that just because a company states they support “Care for All” does not mean that is reality. They definitely do not care for the front line workers in their clinics that are there day in and day out trying to support the company mission. Their mission at its core is just a coy catch phrase to lure you in. Don't fall for it. 


What is the best part of working at the company?
The opportunity to help folks in the LGBT plus community living with HIV. You also have a company that puts heavy investment into their diversity equity and inclusion. A company that truly always tries to better itself in order to give better service to those they advocate for.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There are several heteronormative members of leadership that need to be removed. They are very strict on how they operate their teams not willing to be caring towards the folks they are designed to serve within the company.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fantastic. Always opportunities to volunteer and get paid to do so at events that you most likely already want to be at. The opportunity to advocate others and be backed by a very well-known company.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day is not real with an equitas. Some days there may be very little to do outside of training or checking up on some clients you're advocating for. Other days can involve "talking folks off the ledge".  Expect to be doing something that always involves helping others to help themselves.

I know this company has had its share of issues in the past, but I really believe they are doing much better with their new CEO. I’ve always felt appreciated in my role and receive nothing but positive feedback from my managers. I absolutely love the diversity here. They are short staffed at times, but I’ve never felt overwhelmed or unsupported. Everyone seems passionate about their mission here to help the community. I’m very happy to have finally found a workplace where I truly feel like I’m making a positive impact and I’m appreciated. The work is engaging and my supervisor trusts me to complete my tasks accordingly. Company contributes $1000 to your HSA. Good dental benefits as well. 

The organization has a great mission and awesome values. The employees are passion driven. However, lack of infrastructure and disorganization just made it a place that I could no longer be a part of. Coming from larger organizations, it was just very different and not in a positive way. They’re growing fast so many actions are reactive instead of proactive. I feel they’ll balance out one day hopefully but with the speed and not slowing down to fix very important problems, it might not. It’s a good experience builder for those that are first getting out of college with social work and other kind of degrees in that area. First time nurses as well or those wanting to gain entry level experience in pharmacy. You must be prepared because it is highly fast paced and there is never a dull moment. You also must be open to hard work.

This company has an amazing mission! Outside of the mission being great and coworkers being like family, the company is in complete disarray. There is no real training! Everything is reactive rather than proactive. The upper staff not involved in daily patient activities call 100% of the shots with little to no input from staff. HR is disappointing, forms are lost and misplaced for both staff and patients daily. The company is hanging on by a thread. The turnover rate is ridiculous,  but the company doesn't take time to consider that they are the reason so many staff members leave. Equitas Health needs to seriously reevaluate how they operate, or it will be forced to close its doors.

Equitas Health was a place where I began my entry into the public health corridors of the healthcare community.  As a " Prevention Health Specialist" I soared through the city alleviating high risk and stress all throughout my community. A typical day at work started with me being culturally competent by meeting people where their at and striving for Omnipotence. Through my stay here I believe I learned dexterity and application to the cause.In reference to leadership they do not micro-manage at all allowing you to do your job stress free. The most enjoyable part of the job is that you are allowed to put your creative ideologies to use.

Although the organization has a powerful mission they fail to live up to it. Employees work in unorganized,  toxic environments that lack diversity and inclusion. They are further under utilized by a fractured system that does not encompass concrete processes and procedures. I spent months working a position that I was over qualified for due to a pipe dream that was sold to me during the interview process. I further felt isolated, bullied and ignored by an establishment that is supposed to care for ALL. If you want to preserve your mental well-being and work at the peak of your scope this is not the place for you.

I loved my job and Equatas and I was very proud to be working there. I love my job and I love that I was working to help the cause that I believed in. I felt like nothing was ever good enough for the medical director. He could be rude and very hurtful! He hurt my feelings and made me cry on several occasions. The favoritism was ridiculous they would go off one person’s word and deny 10 peoples words about that one person.I was fired over hearsay! I do not miss that place and feel sorry for anyone that has to work with or for the medical director. Or Amanda!!! Thanks for lying on me!
