to keep this review simple, people shouldn't be fooled by the all progressive we are doing great type of image that this company tries to depict to the public.  Upper management has no sense of communication and along with their HR department they love to threaten people who don't fit their agenda.  They overflow with patients and appoint nurses to be head of the front office and vice a versa for other positions.  Unless you know someone within the company then you are not moving up.  There are a lot of bad things that go on behind closed doors which is the reason why no one gets a drug test done on them when they come on board, no one (I will leave it at that).  They overbook and when something goes wrong they tend to play the blame game.  Their medical director loves washing his hands and is never accountable for what goes on.  I have seen good people come and go because of the lack of understanding of those put in charge, especially when these upper management seniors are mediocre and have had no background experience in managing a medical facility.  Their security cameras catch only what is convenient to them, and lets just say not all the money that comes into play goes where it is supposed to go.   The company has become greedy and their CEO has no awareness of why these people are being let go, he just signs the letter and that's that.  The public has shown concern for how things have changed but it doesn't matter, as long as their billing department keeps cashing in that insurance money is all good for them.  They were already under investigation but I doubt anyone cares.  If you are fresh out of college it is good place to work and waste time, but be careful if you don't fit their ideal image for their "agenda" you may be overlooked or under watch for being different.  Their HR office is a joke, their vice presidents are not that involved other than coming in for lunches and talking numbers, and the little man sitting on top just doesn't know that in modern times things are handled differently.  Good luck if you decide to pursue a career here, be prepared to back stab people if that is your type of thing.  ECMC was a much better place to work for where they actually care for the patients and not just a number.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great co-workers. Pretty fair pay. Free parking.  new to specialty training programs a few times a year if you want to cross train to another unit. Plenty of opportunity for overtime. Various committees (staffing committee) and teams (skin care team). Upper management would like magnet status although I don’t know that we’ll ever be able to achieve it.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Like every hospital our staffing is frustrating- 5-6 for RN’s on a medsurg floor and up to 10 for techs. No ancillary staff at night ie transport, lab. No breakers usually so getting breaks can sometimes be a challenge but not everyday. Frequently at least one nurse per unit  doing primary care.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Like all floor nursing there’s continual increases in what’s expected of nurses without any increase in staff. When we’re short lab techs, we’re responsible to draw labs, when we’re short pharmacy techs nurses are responsible to do med recs. Our social workers had a mass exodus about a year ago - leaving for better pay - and nurses were calling facilities to place people, faxing paperwork and arranging transport! I will say there’s no retaliation for speaking up if you see something wrong or dangerous. Morale s quite low right now but I feel that a lot of hospitals are feeling the post covid pinch in a similar way. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Overwhelmed from the moment you get report, ER doesn’t give report anymore so there might be a brief note and then patients just arrive- frequently at change of shift. There is supposed to be a resource nurse until 11pm but if there’s staff shortages they get pulled. Frequently short a tech also. One HUC for 3 to 5 floors at night, 2 on dayshift. Our epic charting s overwhelming and unnecessarily complicated. It’s frustrating that other departments will be short and nursing has to make up the slack on top of all our other work. This is every hospital right now

First I just state I have had many years of experience at this organization and I would like to share with you a common story: You start and are excited to work for such a place with amazing values. It’s a dream place to work! Right? The pay isn’t great but the benefits are. Years pass and you notice significant changes: many key people are leaving, only certain demographics are advancing, and the ones at the top are driving crazy expensive vehicles while your paycheck increased 45 cents. The culture changes. Your supervisor is incredibly unprofessional and uses derogatory slang. Turnover increases. You’re a dime a dozen. This isn’t the Evergreen I’ve heard of!
The environment turns sour and you hang in there. The environment turns hostile, and HR has been made aware. Upper management takes a blind eye and you continue to stick it out in hops things will get better. 
Evergreen is yet another organization that hides behind a non-profit good-doing facade when in reality, it’s corrupt, and hostile. The people with power watch as the lower levels live paycheck to paycheck barely clinging on. They strategically allow their employees to feel stuck: they wouldn’t dare give up these exceptional benefits, would they?  It’s a non-profit with an increasing corporate feeling. Money money money. It all goes to upper management. A sad but true tale. Look elsewhere if you were hoping for an alternative  employer; this one is going corporate.

I worked at Evergreen for 8 years. I loved the population they work with and their philosophies are progressive and affirming. The pay is fairly competitive and there are a ton of different job opportunities between healthcare, IT, behavioral health, case management, I appreciated a lot their cultural sensitivity/humility, they ensure that everyone in the company is educated on HIV, LGBTQIA+ and race/inequality issues, and harm reduction. There was a lot of room to advance in the company however I always felt that middle management played favorites and was out of touch with the actual on-the-ground reality of the job. Many of them had never actually been in a front-line position before, never have seen first hand the impact of addiction, illness, and mental health disorders. In my experience, if you were a squeaky wheel you would be essentially put on a blacklist with management. In care coordination the case loads were high and clients' needs extremely urgent, it was a stressful job and lacked the needed support from management. 

First let me say working here is not for the faint of heart. They serve and work with most of the underserved communities and populations there are this includes HIV positive patients, patients who identify as Trans or Gender non-conforming/non-binary as well as all members of the LGBTIQA+ community, people who actively use substances or have in the past, mental health and addiction counseling, people living with developmental disabilities, and communities of color. The typical day is never the same and you never know how it will play out. The company is pretty large with about 500 employees at its various sites and locations. The staff for the most part are friendly but you will run into a handful of not so friendly or respectful coworkers. The patients can be very sweet or the total opposite.  Overall the atmosphere is pleasant to work in, the benefits are pretty good, pay could be better, and the job can be tough on both the mental and physical. 

When you hire someone on. Dedicated training it is important to be transparent . Especially when you are hired to do a job that trains others. I was hired on and soon learned there was issues on the inside. Red flags the first day.  As people in my own orientation dropped off before me. 

The hiring manager told me my first day that they were transferring to another dept. Due to internal issues. 

Shifted to  be trained by someone who was overwhelmed training me  and the org. 

Was given a project that I did well on but not related to this position. With little training for my position. I was not going to succeed in the 6 weeks I was there. Also I later learned the community program I was suppose to work with was delayed due to employees not wanting to merge and the position later on  went to a current employee that took on the work in addition to their current position. 

It hurt because I believed in this company, but what I learned did me a favor and I moved on to bigger and better things. 




What is the best part of working at the company?
The atmosphere is amazing. Great co-workers and emphasis on work life balance. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The fact the company can give the CEO 6 figure bonuses, and other executives 5 figure bonuses, but can't give minimal raises to maintain long-term employees. Nepotism also runs rampant.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Easy going; open-minded; mostly good vibes

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come in 5 mins before or after shift starts, work a few hours responding to emails and attending meetings, meet with staff and provide support, take an hour long lunch and then finish the rest of the day in similar fashion to how it started.

Care Coordinator's work with individuals with chronic medical conditions to improve overall health by connecting with critical providers, maintaining preventive health and avoiding emergency room visits. 

A typical day at work is fielding calls, communicating with providers, scheduling transportation, attending medical appointments, and following up with providers.  Collecting information to create comprehensive assessments and creating client focused care plans, which are shared with providers. 

The most difficult part of this job, to me, is the high caseload, and time management.

Job descriptions do not fit actual job duties. Evergreen talks a good game  and has a good marketing plan. They excel in assisting the LGBTQ community but fall well short of respectability in many other areas as health care professionals. They were very effective when they were a smaller practice focusing on HIV and Harm reduction. Once they expanded into chemical dependency treatment and the BUSINESS  of chemical dependency they hired inept leadership, lost sight of treating employees with respect,fail utterly in quality patient care, and have lost sight with what is important as a good employer and caregiver. Today Evergreen is sadly more focused on profit and stroking their own Ego's.

You will be expected to complete miracles on a day to day basis with little pay. I personally believe that employees are set up to fail from the moment they walk in the door. Management is on a high horse and nothing is consistent between managers. One manager will tell you one thing and another manager will tell you something completely different. The work environment is toxic. If someone has a problem with you they will talk negatively behind your back, management will get involved and take sides. It’s not a fair workplace. The best part of the job was the patients. That’s it! RUN AWAY!
