Exer Urgent Care

There are a lot of management changes as of recently. Which could be good or bad depending on who you ask. They do give you a good opportunity to and have the flexibility in your schedule like you wish. They are extremely forgiving when it comes to call out for mental health days. I love being able to say I’m a medical assistant and have the opportunity to work 12 hours giving me that flexibility to focus on other avenues outside of work. Not a bad place to work, if you’re willing to put in the work.
I get along with all of my employees, including management. I get to meet interesting people i.e. patients all day which is another plus for me. Plus the Providers that I work with are always eager into teaching you their craft so plenty of opportunities to learn. There’s also plenty of opportunities to pick up extra shifts, as other colleagues or employees typically call out. With that being said, there might be times where you might be by yourself because you had a coworker call out . If you are an x-ray tech coupled in with medical assistance, I will say that you will be the busiest just because of the demand of x-ray tech

When I first started the process with Exer Urgent Care. I was beyond excited because I truly loved the service(s) that were being offered along with the modern, clean facilities. I began working at Exer pre-pandemic and it’s shocking how much the company has changed, and not necessarily for the best. I worked throughout COVID-19 and after almost three years with the company I never received a merit increase working for at an almost minimum wage rate, and was worked to exhaustion while working 12 hour shifts working up to 10 days consecutively or sometimes beyond that because of how short staffed each facility is. 

Growing with the company was impossible and was mainly based on either employee favoritism or family working with family. 

It was a great experience because of my coworkers and building relationships with the community but definitely disappointed yet grateful to have gained this experience to have been able to move on from this company that doesn’t really care for their employees. 

Oh how I wish I could give this company a better review because when I started I really did love this job and company but due to recent changes within the last year let alone week with corporate I can no longer do that. Recently they “laid off” all the nurses for budget cuts due to their own lack of poor planning on opening unnecessary clinics in areas that they can not provide services to patients because of insurance issues with HMOs. Managers are constantly leaving due to poor pay and awful treatment from corporate. It’s only been two days since they fired ALL the nurses and no one has received new contracts and talks of NECESSARY RAISES are being shut down quickly. I’m now overworked and exhausted. Staffing is now poor and we are severely overworked and underpaid. The only thing I can still say about this company is the offices are great, coworkers and drs on all sites are amazing but I’m sure with people frequently quitting and being underpaid and over worked that will no longer remain the same. 

I hired on with Exer after a great interview with their Medical Director.  I was particularly interested in this position because the clinic was only minutes from my house and was told that I would be doing most of my shifts at that location (Newbury Park).  Within weeks I was expected to do the majority of my shifts in Calabasas, North Hollywood and Northridge.  On several occasions I would be nearly done with a shift in Calabasas and be told that I needed to go and close in Northridge or Hollywood.  Exer states to the public that they ALWAYS have an Emergency Medicine trained M.D. on the premises... WRONG, on many occasions I was the only practitioner on site.
The Corporation is owned by an M.D. that bailed out of her Emergency Medicine rotation (told to me by an M.D. that was in the rotation with her) and her management skills are horrible.
Only good experience was interviewing and working with Dr. Brian Wilbur, great doctor and a nice guy.  Must admit, some of the doctors were nice to work with.

I enjoyed my time working alongside a lot of great people at Exer. My coworkers were great. I learned how to provide fast-paced customer service amidst the rush of covid testing, which I have been able to take with me! Management was not good, with 3 supervisors doing the job of 1. This free time created a hostile work environment by which there was a lot of micromanagement- this in turn caused more turnover. Upper-level management was also not present and frankly they did not seem to care. The hardest part of the job was dealing with management, and the best part of the job was working with good people. 


Upper Management needs to be reconstructed, policies on a person by person scenario. They were the “run of the bull” took off way to fast and got way in over their heads. Great learning experience, work life balance mediocre. Unless of course you were the staff accountant ha! Overall good environment, room for growth, Pay is a little above average for some roles depending on who your boss is! Except for clinical which they make peanuts, and it’s sad because they are the operations of the business! SMH

What is the best part of working at the company?
Flexible schedules, abundance of snacks in the break room, they occasionally will treat the team to Starbucks or lunch, great co-workers, management is decent 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The clinic I work at can get VERY busy at times. Co-workers tend to call-out often so you're left short staffed for the day. The workload they put on you can be overwhelming sometimes. The pay could be a lot better than what they currently offer. They are expanding and opening up new clinics across SoCal but not offering pay raises to current employees at the company.

Idk where to begin.. this place does not care about its employees, the management is terrible and they have employees and managers leaving all the time! It is not a good place at all! I would not recommend anyone go here! Save yourself the stress! They do not care if they schedule you three to four 12 hour shifts in a row! They do not listen to your availability and they clearly ask for it! I understand it was not guaranteed but they don’t even go based off it at all! Do not work here! It will ruin your mental health for sure ! Stay far away! 

Very chaotic and disorganized on day one. Office staff and management seemed confused about who had what responsibility for the six hour training. Providers are shuffled from clinic to clinic.  Little to no support for new employees. Support staff at some clinics are very lazy and constantly on their phones or watching movies on their laptops.  Resentment at assisting providers with procedures such as suturing, wound care, dressing changes and point of care testing.  Management blames providers for long wait times yet clinics are very understaffed. Management prioritizes profit over safe patient care.  

Overall the staff is what makes the place great, despite always being understaffed. Corporate team members always speak about how they have your back and its a team effort. When push came to shove they fired all the nurses out of no where and left the remaining staff to suffer with no coverage. They pay isnt even that much better than other Urgent Cares. It says a-lot about how the company is going when they have to close slower centers to staff the busy ones. If management improves and starts listening and taking care if their staff it wouldnt be a bad place to work.
