When I first started working at Florida Health Care Plans, I was genuinely excited. The environment seemed welcoming at first, and I truly believed I had found a great place to build a career. Unfortunately, that feeling didn’t last long.

It quickly became clear that problems were popping up left and right, and nothing ever seemed to get resolved properly. A large part of the staff is more focused on stirring up drama than actually doing their jobs, and that behavior is tolerated. There are a few employees who come in, work hard, and just try to enjoy their day — but sadly, those people are rarely appreciated or recognized.

Another huge issue is the patients. Many of them are extremely rude and disrespectful to the staff, and there are no real consequences for their behavior. Patients are allowed to no-show their appointments without penalty and treat employees poorly without ever being reprimanded. Staff are expected to tolerate the disrespect without support from management.

On top of that, most of the providers are just as bad — many are unprofessional, rude, and dismissive toward staff, yet they are never held accountable for their actions either. It creates a toxic and demoralizing environment where it feels like you’re stuck between disrespectful patients, difficult coworkers, and providers who think they can treat people however they want.

Overall, my experience turned from promising to extremely disappointing. If you’re considering working here, be prepared for a lot of unnecessary stress, very little support, and even less appreciation.

Highly unstructured, no job security , 

the rate of turn over is extremely high as majority of the staff are poorly trained and seem to get things done by trial and error .

all they seem to care about is aggressively recruiting old medicare patients who are sickly and as thus more money for the insurance business.

The culture here? everyone just shows up for the pay check , works so they can gain some experience then quit .

In a short while , the CIO quit (they would say he retired if you ask), the Tech infrastructure quit , 2 database admins left , a sys admin left also and this is all from the IT department alone so you could imagine .

This place is a nightmare for healthcare . They do not encrypt patients information such as social security number and credit card information so I would be scared to be a member here because a disgruntled employee could take my info .

Technology here is pretty old and archaic but they refuse to upgrade

My day started at 7:30 and ended at 4:00,the shift stated 8:00 to 5:00 but we were allowed to choose a schedule the fit us individually within those hours. My day consisted of reviewing possible coding errors to either capture the HCC or to  remove the submission. Also to audit medical charts to capture HCC's, including RX HCC's when auditing for medicare.The charts I audited were for both commercial and medicare depending on the time of the year. It was a team of about 15 auditors, we all worked well together. We helped each other reach goals. We attended monthly meetings to stay updated on any changes that were added or revised. My position often required me to reach out to physicians to discuss the importance of proper documentation in order to capture all of the HCC's that were possible for each visit. Also part of my responsibilities was to request medical records from Physician offices or medical facilities.

Florida Health Care Plan is a wonderful, growing company.  A typical work day is helping customers on the phone, reimbursing refunds to patients, transferring patients credits onto owing balance, adding new patient to panel, taking payment over the phone.  I have learn all the previous skill and also to work more together as a team.  The culture of the workplace is calm and friendly.  There is not a hard part to my job, However, anyone or any company that owes a person money they just want to get them paid and make sure the customer/patient is satisfied.  The enjoyable part of my job is my coming to work everyday, and working with a great group of people, especially our manager.

Upper management are all part of the "good old boys club", people are put in place because of who they are friends with, go drinking with, etc. Most directors don't even have a college degree and were put in place when the company sold many years ago. This is the epitome of the management team. There is nepotism run wild here, brothers and sisters and in laws, etc. Directors have hired their own (adult) children multiple times to "work from home" even though they had no qualifications. If you question anything, you are targeted and terminated.I have witnessed them routinely break FMLA laws, HIPPA laws and EEOC regulations. When an EEOC complaint comes in, I have seen them shred damning evidence and create evidence to support their position. Horrible, horrible company.

The training is very broad and you’re always unsure of what your actual responsibilities are. The supervisors (in member services) show a bit of favoritism and overlook faults for some. They tend to be dishonest when submitting write ups and verbals so just be mindful of and skeptical about their allegations. Other then that the benefits like PTO, medical coverage & dental are great. But the environment definitely takes a toll. I was warned about this company but chose to see for myself. Its exactly everything I was warned about & it was a different location. This is clearly a company wide issue.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The company has changed so much I don’t have an answer to this question. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor management. So many changes with no communication from leadership. We’re being gutted and liquidated. Severely understaffed.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Overwhelming. No guidance or support from leadership. Severely understaffed. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Rooming. Discharging. Faxing. Surgical clearances. Incoming and outgoing phone calls. Scheduling. Inventory. Med refills. EKG. Injections.

Each day was an opportunity to learn new tasks.  I learned multiple computer skills, medical terminology, ICD9 and ICD10 basic coding, 
 I  participated in CMS and NCAQ audits. 
Our department was a team environment, with supportive management. 
The hardest part of my job was disciplinary action of staff as I had worked with most of them for over 10 years.   The most enjoyable part of the job was when a Member called to say what a great experience they had with our department and company.

The only positive thing about this job are the coworkers and the patients.

Upper management in holly hill are very rude and degrading, they act nice at first but that quickly changes after hire. They are all best friends or family and only promote based off friendships, not performance.

I've personally witnessed unethical practices as well as hippa violations practiced in this company. If you claim harassment of any kind they find ways to write you up. 

Managers at most locations are rude.

The training is inadequate for your day to day position and a lot of offices are very dirty.

You do get a bonus which is good, but by the end of the year, you have sorely earned it. I worked there 3 years.

Coding and Billing for Physician's including family practice, endocronology, and Neurology. Coding for rapid care clinic. Managers are supportive. Company cares about the employees and does do an anual bonus based on revenue. Risk Adjustment coding for Medicare Advantage and ACA Health Care plans. Free Health Insurance for employees, dental and vision at small cost. Excellent 401K savings plan. Work at home after spending 3 years in the office, Coders allowed to work at home after training now. Generous time off plan, above average.
