My IT analyst position was hectic.  There is always something to do, or something to learn.  Much is expected of you, but not much time is given.  On a typical day I would bounce from taking help desk calls and troubleshooting problem tickets, to administrating multiple desktop and server environments.  There are countless opportunities to learn, as the company does spend a good deal of money on next-gen IT infrastructure, and there is a great diversity of software to learn.  Management is a problem here, as things are rarely well thought out or planned.  Project management culture is very infantile and procedures are rarely followed properly, ending up in rush jobs, failed deployments, and no lessons learned to prevent it from happening again.  Coworkers in my group were not very competent, but there were a few that stood out as very helpful and bright.  Those people usually carried the rest of the team on their back.  There are no questions that challenge your IT expertise during the interview process, so that explains the lack of competence.  It is very much a culture of personality, with the idea that the IT part of it can be learned.  The problem is, no one is doing the teaching.

The workload is comparable to large carriers except you'll be required to process subrogation demands, post incoming payments, and complete damage appraisals (under a certain dollar amount). You'll be required to do administrative work before issuing payments. Plus, there's a rotating customer service line that you'll be expected to answer (which is calculated into your performance review). If you're licensed in several states, your caseload will be heavier than most adjusters; and you won't get much relief because not everyone is licensed. The position is very stressful and, before you know it, you'll find yourself logging in early, logging off late, or working on the weekends just to keep your caseload and emails manageable. The pay is salary, so there's no overtime pay. The turnover is high because the adjusters have too much on their plate; and management is not progressive enough to make the necessary changes or find solutions, for all of the issues mentioned above (prior to losing good adjusters). 

My position involved both development and support. 30% of my time was supporting applications working directly with the business clients. I loved being able to help them and found this a rewarding part of the job. I quickly became an expert in all facets of the system and became a 'go-to' person from other technical teams, the help desk, within my own team, and from business clients.

55% of my energy went into new development projects which quickly allowed me to develop 'cutting-edge' solutions. Coming into my position my job was primarily COBOL Mainframe, and thick client server side proprietary software. Upon leaving FMI I was on-call for the COBOL Mainframe work, but all development was in VB.Net, C#.Net, ASP.Net, javascript, SQL Server, and DOS Batch files.

The company is very much 'line-management' based. All interfaces with supervisors of other team must go through your supervisor. Interfaces with other team members also must be approved through management.

I have been at the company a little over a year. Overall, I have a positive experience with the company.  One of the standout qualities of this company is its genuine care for its employees. The leadership here deserves credit for their efforts to create a supportive atmosphere.

However, there is room for improvement, particularly in the area of training. While the company does provide some training opportunities, they could be more structured. Clearer guidance and more comprehensive training programs would undoubtedly benefit both new hires and existing employees looking to develop their skills further.

Despite this minor critique, I genuinely enjoy working here. The emphasis on work-life balance is commendable, and it's refreshing to be part of a company that prioritizes employee well-being.

The supervisors for the most part are unqualified and some are extremely rude.  But if their supervisor is around, they are sweet as pie.

They work as puppets for higher supervisors.  They are not able to make decisions without approval.  It is a waste of money to pay them if they have to run to a higher supervisor.  They hire for reputation and not for needs of the company.  The staff will be nice to your face then talk about you and everyone else behind your back if you do not bow to their tactics or unfavorable work ethics.  This is an extremely bad work environment as far as that goes.  More drama than today's soap operas!  You try to make supervisors aware of it but they shrug their shoulders and refuse to handle it.

Training was decent. Managers are MIA a lot and seem to have personal time. Claims you will drown in work and it will be micromanaged and then more added on. They will sell you on advancement, but they move people like crazy from dept to dept with no experience to move there and so they continue to be overwhelmed. Most of the reviews on here are employees who had regular jobs and not any part of claims (all areas) where the real problem lies. You can tell who wrote the reviews and were asked to puff the co. If you state there is any issue, it is arrogantly dismissed as if you can't handle your job etc instead of poor expectations and managers. Pay is subpar for industry.

I typically make reports on a computer all day. It's great as an office job. The people are all very friendly and eager to help with anything and they enjoy doing fun things such as lunch parties and occasional outings. It's a professional environment but still employees are awarded many casual dress days. The work itself is boring most of the time. I wouldn't mind it as much if I had more interaction with people but most days I work at my computer for hours on end. I've gained a lot of knowledge about insurance as well as valuable skills like maintaining communication and teamwork but I've also learned what I wish to have and don't wish to have in job.

I truly loved my time with FMINS. They truly care about their employees and make sure to have a little fun while working hard. Management can be a pain sometimes, but I believe you get that everywhere. 

Only complaint I have is when I did my exit interview when I left I was advised that my file would state I could reapply for the company at any time, but when I did attempt to come back they stated I did not put in my full 2 weeks so I was not eligible for re-hire. (This was all discussed in my exit interview, and they approved my 13 day notice). I truly wish this could've been handled appropriately as I loved the job and was ready to come back.

The managers are extremely unprofessional. They are never accessible and openly bad mouth members of their team. The training is extremely minimal which leads to many issues within the department. The company promotes balancing life and work then reprimands you for taking time off for family emergencies. The team works very hard but the lack of leadership and the incompetence of the Supervisors unfortunately overshadow the hard work their team puts in. This has lead to the highest turn over rate I have seen in any job in my professional career.

Frankenmuth Insurance has exceeded my expectations a great place to build a career.  The culture is phenomenal along with the communication from leadership. Like any company you have challenges, but everyone is rowing in the same direction which helps allows you to work through them. The compensation and benefits are good, and the company is very sound financially. If you are looking for a place that "gets it" then Frankenmuth Insurance would be a place i would recommend for employment
