Company Profile:

Reliance Financial is a privately held finance company dedicated to providing working capital funding solutions to small and medium-sized businesses. The company operates across three core departments: Underwriting, Operations, and Servicing. The Underwriting team plays a critical role in evaluating new deal submissions sourced through a network of Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs). This team is responsible for assessing corporate creditworthiness, conducting detailed bank statement analyses, and reviewing financial statements and tax returns to make informed funding decisions. By balancing risk management with business growth, the Underwriting team ensures that Reliance delivers tailored financial solutions that meet the needs of its clients.

Role Summary:

The Secondary Review Underwriter serves as an independent second set of eyes on deals prior to funding, ensuring each file conforms to Reliance's credit policy and underwriting guidelines. Where a deal falls outside guidelines, this role is responsible for identifying the deviation and ensuring it is properly documented as a defined exception, with clear rationale and supporting evidence. This is a pure underwriting role with no direct reports. The focus is depth of judgment and consistency of policy application, not team management.

Key Responsibilities:

· Perform independent secondary review of underwritten deals prior to fund, verifying conformity with credit policy and underwriting policy & procedures.
· Re-analyze application data, including financial statements, bank statements, credit card statements, AR aging reports, and business/personal credit and due diligence platforms, to confirm the underwriting conclusion is well-supported.
· Identify any deviations from policy; document exceptions clearly, including rationale, supporting data, and the approval obtained, so the file stands up to later audit or investor review.
· Flag discrepancies or unresolved risk questions back to the original underwriter and management, communicating findings both orally and in writing prior to funding.
· Conduct supplemental bank verifications, merchant interviews, or funding calls as needed to resolve open questions before sign-off.
· Maintain a consistent, well-documented audit trail across all reviewed files to support policy consistency and compliance/audit readiness.
· Partner with underwriting management to surface patterns in policy exceptions and recommend refinements to credit policy and procedures.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred but not required.
· Minimum 5-7 years of direct underwriting experience in merchant cash advance or revenue-based financing, including complex and large-dollar files, evidencing deep, hands-on expertise.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound, defensible credit judgment without day-to-day oversight.
· Strong aptitude for problem-solving with excellent written and verbal communication skills. This role must be able to articulate and defend exception rationale clearly.
· Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and data interpretation required.
· High attention to detail and comfort operating in a quality-control/audit-adjacent capacity.
· Strong commitment to integrity, accountability, and consistency in policy application.
· Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines simultaneously, often under funding time pressure.

Compensation:

· Base salary plus discretionary bonus.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year

Work Location: Hybrid remote in New York, NY 10012
