I started a contract here when the lab was owned by Trivergent, then transitioned to be part of Frederick Health again.

First of all, management does not understand or care how things go in the lab. They, like many other management teams, only look at numbers, and do not care about the needs and keep evening and night shift purposely at minimum staffing to save money. The fact they did this over a pandemic year, with short training with several new tests, doubling the testing load, and multiple additional safety measures is incredible. 

Secondly, giving an employee an unreliable rating for using PTO is not okay on a good year. This past year, myself and a few other coworkers got covid. We missed no other time except the couple paid weeks we were allotted to get a negative result, barely enough time for our fevers to break. One coworker was fired for having an ill child that went into the hospital. But they gush about "great work life balance" and "family is important". One was threatened with being fired if they did not work more hours, despite already working overtime every week, and having a family at home and a partner that also worked.

Thirdly, they really don't like hearing better ideas. Most especially if you have more lab time then them. They don't like it if you can fix things that they don't know how to. And there's an inventory problem. We ran out of stuff ALL. THE. TIME. For weeks at a time sometimes. Inventory was done weekly by management. 

Fourth, when they did decide to offer me a permanent placement, because they couldn't fill the open job slots, because word got out from the high turnover, they offered me significantly less hourly then a man I worked with. Who has the same amount of career time as me, but with less diversity, and less expertise in the highly needed areas. Equal opportunity and pay is what they say, though. And even with that lower hourly, I was getting a a bad deal with the differential as well, less than half what my coworkers received for the odd shifts. 

And finally, the ppe problem. More importantly, the poor specimen processing and phlebotomy team who had to go to every patient room, including covid, without proper protection, getting yelled at by nursing for trying to use their ppe to be safe, and got zero hazard pay or other benefit for risking their lives and those of their families. And they barely make minimum wage, without enough staff, working constant overtime and double shifts, being told to rush training new people, and being told to "just fix it" by management when they ran into staffing issues to do the nurses job for them in the ER. 

All because management wanted to keep their end of year bonuses, make more money with additional tests we did not have the staff for, and pretend we were the best during a crisis.

Yeah, we look good, but the employees suffered, and still are suffering. And while they interview diversely, the hiring does not match up, if you know what I mean. Only certain people got written up a lot. You could do so much better.

This is supposed to be a hospital where patient care is number one. They want you to think that too.

BUT, behind the scenes, they micromanage their healthcare staff. All they are concerned about is productivity. Doesn’t matter what your schedule is, they will send you home if they don’t estimate they have the patient population to support your “need” as a staff member. And, when they do this, you have to use your PTO to get paid for those missing hours. Oh, but wait, they also expect you to come back if they send you home in the middle of your shift now they need you again. Oh, you are part time and helped to in the gaps of the schedule, wait, we have a full time person who failed to reschedule their week when it was time, so they get the hours because we don’t need you now! Oh, wait, now we can’t get our patient care done because people have been sent home! But if you don't have enough productivity, this goes on your performance record and no raise for you. By the way, no raises in the last 4 years, BUT they can spend millions of dollars to change their logo!! And, make sure all patients are scanned for verification of name and medication, and it is your fault if the meds are not entered correctly to be scanned, or if the patient bar code is not printed correctly from admission, or the scanners or computers are not working, or an area you are in has no scanning capability; this will go on your record! Your sick, don't call out too often or you will be fired; better off to come in sick so it does not go on your performance record.

And THIS is just the tip of the iceberg. Lowest paid employees in Maryland! RUN! Run away! Do not work here!

They hire mostly new grads with no experience so they can pay them the lowest wages. Training is almost non-existent, setting new employees up for failure. That sets the whole Dept up for failure because suddenly your Dept has the reputation of “not knowing what they’re doing”. There is zero chance for advancement. All the higher ups have been there for 30 years & if you don’t fit in their “click” (and you won’t), you’ll be a nobody your entire career there. Funny thing is, the higher ups are sooo out of the loop on what their employees actually do. And the ones who’ve attended a seminar & think they know best practices, will pile on dozens of additional tasks to your already overloaded work schedule. They have no clue or just don’t care about your workload. If you’re not a nurse or CNA, you’re probably “salaried” and it’s just expected that you’ll work 10hrs a day, skip your lunch break, and get paid 8 hrs/day. The turnover is extremely high, yet do you think HR checks in with the employees to see why so many of their co-workers are leaving? Of course not.... they let the seasoned, skilled employees go elsewhere so they can bring in more new grads with no hospital experience who don’t know what they’re doing, because they know they can pay them next to nothing. Managers should be held accountable for the high turnover rates in their departments. Clearly they’re doing a terrible job managing their staff. If they showed that they cared for their staff, employees wouldn’t be jumping ship like they do! I’ve honestly never worked for a company who shows such disregard for their employees.

I was the Senior Project Manager for the Oncology relocation project.  Oncology services was moving to a new center about 1.5 miles away in a building fully owned by Frederick Memorial.  I over saw the technical aspects of the project and physical radiation equipment acquisition and vendor management.  I reported to the COO.  He is a super intelligent guy with the sensibility of your best bud.  He expects high performance, yet he's equally as involved and engaged.

Overall I give my experience at FMH a 6, but if everyone in the facility performed to the level of my COO, I'd give an 8.5.  

I'd highly recommend working here.  The people are SUPER friendly and helpful.  They are  growing organization and there is a learning curve, but EVERYONE is on the team and engaged in figuring out what they may not currently know.  

AND the city has the very best restaurants.  If you cannot say no to good food, this is not the place you should go.  My favorite restaurant held a space for me 3 nights a week.  I tipped well.. :)

Although FMH seems to be more of teaching hospital, they don’t pay well at all.  They start RN’s off at 30k and Phlebotomist at $14 to $16 an hour.  They need to look at other hospitals and see what they pay their employees for different positions.  Management is unorganized and unprofessional.  They ask that unethical things be done against guidelines and they have their favorite employees.  Not to mention you cannot used a team leader as a job reference.  You have to use the manager and no one else.  This facility is in bad shape and needs major revamping.  Those who are in leadership roles need to be coached, trained and it needs to be mandatory that they attend managerial classes to know how to deal with employees appropriately.  In addition, they also need to be made to attend technical writing courses.  My manager I (am) was under didn’t even know how use proper grammar and punctuation in her emails.

Was given a great opportunity with Frederick Health Services and was excited to start a new career! QUICKLY found out that it is run mostly by office politics and gossip. Received no training of any kind, was hired in the middle of a transition and suffered for it. Disrespected by the staff who I was to learn from. Was let go only after 30 days with no explanation and am considered a non rehire. Meanwhile I had staff under me who were completely insubordinate and unprofessional, I was told not to write them up and to allow for transition, however I was not given the same allowance. Would have appreciated more time to adjust along with the staff to prove my strengths and abilities. If not, then it would be nice to have the opportunity in another position but I have been black listed with no real offense. I guess the employee pool is so large that it doesn't matter.

While working at FH I contracted COVID-19. After a hospitalization it ended up with me being a long haul COVID suffer. Admittedly, I missed a lot of work due to my health complications however FH did not care about my long term health issues. Even days when they told me not to come to work were counted as unexcused absences. I was ultimately let go because they do not accept doctor's notes for missed days, which I have doctor's notes for all of my missed days. In summary FH is an OK place to work as long as you don't contract a long term illness. For a Healthcare company, they care very little about the health of their employees. 

I worked for this company as a medical assistant for a little over 2 years. Management is terrible. They do not support you they tear you down and only add more and more for you to do. The pay is much lower than other places. There is no raises. Sooo much work not enough employees and all management, Human Resources and even the upper management and Ceo do not care about their employees. Everyone is replaceable is their thought to everything. The Liberty Location primary care is the worse place to work. Co workers are amazing and try so hard to keep the practice together but the managers are a mess and do not help out at all. The medical assistants are the backbone of this office. Would never recommend Frederick health for employment. 

Let me start by saying I’m grateful this job hired me having no previous experience. I have truly learned a lot and improved my skills. Unfortunately, this is the worst place I have ever worked. As easy as the job is, management and the co workers make me want to leave on my lunch break and never  come back. There is an endless amount of gossip, favoritism, and call outs. Management will seem friendly, but will gossip with the rude and power hungry people they leave as “charge” or “lead”. There are 3 shifts (24 hrs) and management is only there for about 8-9 hours a day. So the staff pretty much do whatever they want, unless they allow the team leader to walk all over them. If you have just finished your training program and need a job, I suggest that you get hired through a temp agency, do your time, and get the he** out of there. Learn all that you can and run for the hills! 

I never wanted to leave FMH; i was working my clinical hours, my manager at the time would not work with me as far as working my time or possibly going part time for the weeks needed; so i transferred to another department that was willing to do that for me. Which i greatly appreciated.  This manager also let me work at Leidos in the mornings for 2 hours then at Orthopedics; and then i would go to the hospital for clinical.  Once done my clinical hours, i had the amount of experience needed for a Phlebotomist position at FMH, and i could not get hired on.  Have tried for 3 years since then. I honestly don't think my application and resume is even being reviewed.  I had much experience in many departments at the hospital and feel i would be an asset back with FMH. Looking outside the box again.  I am a good Phlebotomist.
