Don't recommend applying unless you like a chaotic environment and like to feel unappreciated.  you work your butt off for nothing because management uses and abuses you as much as they can so they don't have to work. management is rude and favors certain individuals and lets them get away with anything but if your on the bad side you get a write up for it. not even a warning. if you don't see all the favoritism that goes on then you must be blind because its so obvious. you do so much more work here than you would at a real restaurant and you don't even get tipped or paid well. you could make the same starting out at like panda express or some other place around $12-$13. Just saw that in n out was hiring for $14 starting and you could get up to $16.50 starting out. here you do so much you have opening side work, then you take orders and get drinks, buss your tables, get desserts, reset tables, and do a whole bunch of closing sidework. you work ALL the holidays. no days off and they don't pay you well.  I worked at the Anaheim location walnut village. it was a mess.  the chef and the manager team up and have bullied servers that they don't like.  instead of trying to help servers they run them out.  the turnaround of servers is ridiculous.  within the last year id say like 15 people have quit. no joke! wouldn't be surprised if there were lawsuits because its bad and people have gone to the HR and director and they don't seem to care or do anything about it even though all this is going on. how can management get away with mistreating people and not following the rules in the rule book. the manager of dining has no experience.  she doesn't know what she is doing. she gossips all the time even though gossping isn't allowed and is so unprofessional. all she can do is decorate for events thats why the director and hr like her but thats all she can do. she can't manage the dining room or staff. she does whatever she wants and gets away with it because she knows she won't get in trouble. i don't know what the director of dining services does also. i never saw him around at all. he's been there a year now and i've never had a conversation with him. I could go on and on about how bad it was at Walnut Village Anaheim location but i would be here all day. Summary of review, dont' recommend applying. management treats you like a piece of dirt and it won't change unless they get rid of the manager.  did find out the chef will be leaving soon so that might help with making things better because he needs to be in control even though he isn't the director. they don't know how to budget and are going to run the company down.  I heard that the chef doesn't care what he does because he's leaving so he's making everyone he doesn't like theres life horrible. the residents are starting to see how management is and how we get overworked and how servers are getting favored.  people talked to the executive director and hr and all these problems and what has gone on but they haven't done anything.  not sure about their bosses (corporate) if  they know all this is going on but im sure they will find out soon.

A typical day at Fredericka Manor Care Center includes great customer service to all visitors and employees with a smile. The beginning of the shift includes an endorsement from the previous nurse assistant on new admissions, and information regarding patients, gathering assignments is a daily routine. Working with a nurse includes taking vital signs, skin assessments, assisting with wound care and monitoring the well being of patients. Answering to patient call lights is a priority to communicate effectively with the nurse about patients current conditions or request of medications. Also, assisting physical therapist in patient transfers to begin therapy, by helping physical therapist I learn how to improve my skills and techniques in order to make a patient recover from their illness or injury. The hardest part of my job may be the amount of patients I have per day, sometimes there is a certain amount of time to get a task done, and that is when I use my time management skills. The most enjoyable part of my job is working with a professional healthcare team that is productive, it motivates others and patients feel secure at our rehabilitative facility. I enjoy learning ways to improve myself and I enjoy knowing that I am making a big difference in patients recovery.

The room to move forward doesn’t really exist depending on your position. My direct supervisors were great, but are both since gone, so I can’t quite speak for the management side as of now.

The job is very easy, it’s just dealing with the elderly that can get tiresome. Even more so their families, as they are all, generally speaking, entitled. But I’ve also met some great residents whom I would enjoy hanging out with outside of the community should the occasion arise.

You generally don’t have the support you need to enforce some polices, but that’s any job that’s customer service oriented.

I would say my biggest gripe is that your job description is very vague, and you wear many hats after hours. Should something happen, you’re now security and maintenance. And you’re “the guy” if anything small happens. Resident locked out their room? Go help them. Tv is “broken”? Go fix it. Water spill? Grab a mop. But you’re still responsible for the front desk. Luckily you have a partner 95% of the time, but one person is usually patrolling or off handling another issue. On an easy day, the pay fits the job. When things start going wrong, I’d argue you’re under paid. 

The biggest pro is the vast majority of your coworkers, both immediate and otherwise, are pretty cool.

Terrible job, terrible pay, terrible benefits, and ZERO opportunities for advancement. The very definition of a dead end job.

Here's why Covia sucks:

1.) They pay you by the hour, not a flat salary. 

2.) The pay is completely insufficient ($16.50 per hour). This means they pay you slightly better than Walmart does.

3.) Management gives themselves extremely generous salaries.

4.) It's not really a nonprofit

5.) Due to pay and the work environment, almost everybody is eyeing a better job elsewhere

6.) Morale is extremely low. They cannot expect consistent high-quality service due a general miserableness. The patients are the ones that suffer most. That's completely unacceptable and it isn't something you can just paper over with good vices, wishful thinking, and PR..

7.) They advertise themselves as stupendous due to the ratings agency that calls itself "Best Places to Work" and" Best Workplaces." It's a total bill of goods so don't fall for it. These bogus ratings are from some scheisty company that they paid. They put it front at center of the Careers section. Don't fall for it.

For starters we are there for the residents that live there. And thats why it was so hard. All theough some mangement is understanding/ helpful and hard working most are not. The executive director has a "do as I say, not as I do attitude." The Dining Room Director has good intentions yet is going to run the place to the ground.... And did I mention the Executive Director and Dining Director are best friends so they do whatever they want.

Ok ok, its just hard becuase there are many good employees that are holding up the others that cannot hold their weight and in turn they are pushed harder. It shows and even the residents have mentioned it many times.

Also they have been under paying their employees and giving them such small increases (3% on average 1 time a year) that they had to give most employees a just to bring them up to the current minimum wage when that date came along.

Best of luck to all but if I could give some advice to all my years I worked there I would watch out.

I speak for the Assisted Living side at Sunny View. Job is easy when you are fully staffed. However, people call in sick often and staff gets away with it because management is very lenient and forgiving. This causes staff that fulfill job requirements stress and increased workload. 

They are very flexible with scheduling if you have school so that's a plus! Pay is extremely low. Performance reviews that may exceed expectations provides less than a dollar raise. 

Another con is that Assisted Living should have residents that have low acuities but most of the residents in Memory Care are on wheelchairs and required 2-3 staff transfers.  These residents with these types of needs should be transferred to skilled nursing side accordingly.  The director should be advocating for the residents and staff when it comes to meeting the needs of those residents requiring more help with ADLs that Assisted Living staff cannot provide.

A lot of politics within the department. Nothing really stays confidential if there are employee concerns or issues.

Working as an intern at Villa Gardens was great experience because I learned how the corporation operates through each department such as the marketing, payroll, human resources and accounting office. The CEO put me in each office to have an idea what skills you need and understand how everything connects to each other to reach the objectives of Villa Gardens. However, I spent more time in the accounting and pay roll office because of my major. I learn how to enter data of the checks that the company needed to pay for their expenses, also, I learned how to balance the statements of every month, and book keeping. I did not have a difficult time there because everyone that I had the opportunity to work with were friendly and because I’m a quick learner. In addition, the CEO had created a good employment environment in which every week we have a meeting to express our concerns, dislikes and our performance. Everyone that worked there were friendly and passion of what they do.

A typical day as security. Get briefed, interior and exterior patrols, put flippers up on doors, watch cameras, write DAR, and reception duties. Night shift extra duty is newspapers. PM shift extra duty is checking boiler temps. Management is there, like 7 directors. HR is really difficult to work with, mess up on hours have to wait till next pay period to get hours missing. Turn around rate in all departments at Carlsbad is pretty high. Constant complaints by employees. Hardest part as a guard is dealing with supervisor KW. First his nice, but becomes really picky on issues that shouldn't be problems. Our boss TH is easy going boss. Really nice, but maybe too lenient. Best part of the job is residents and co workers. If your looking for a job as security with better pay then agencies this is it, but continue searching after for reasons mentioned above.

Worked here as a food server for about a year. Was good at first but quickly became under staffed. To the point where we were expected to complete the jobs of 4-5 people. Everyone complained, including kitchen & servers had to take the dirt and grime of it all. Sometimes, there were only 4 of us serving about 120-150 residents because we were that short staffed and they wanted to cut budget to save money. On top of all that, we were never appreciated or valued. Complaints is all we got from residents, kitchen, & managers. Whilst everyone else got some sort of appreciation. Don’t expect to be able to get sick or you’ll get fired. Also, don’t expect to have any holidays off, as they’ll promise you something then just schedule you with no warning. Also, they promise free food but then kitchen gets lazy and doesn’t make enough for staff, so very misleading and false contract. Wouldn’t recommend. 0/10
