GE has been a roller coaster for the last few years. The public struggles have been very real from an employee's perspective and we have been experiencing several ups and downs on a daily basis. GE is trying to cut debt and find a new stride, so it's an active social experiment. This presents many challenges for workers, however, it also creates great opportunities to learn and grow at a Fortune 10 company. Internally, the employees say they are a part of a 130 year old startup. Many of the old processes and ways of management have been thrown out the window and the company has been trying new things to survive. If you are someone that is a go-getter and not afraid of some uncertainty, then this could provide an amazing opportunity to launch your career into a new direction from an experience growth perspective. 

From a day to day working experience, many of the employees in the company are remote and the schedule is very flexible. The comp and benefits are pretty good and there is no vacation policy (as needed w/ manager approval). The autonomy is fantastic. The people are fantastic. It's just the ups and downs that could contribute to someone's declined motivation. No matter what, great experience though.

After 2+ decades in leadership roles at leading Silicon Valley firms joined GE Digital after being assured that I would be given the autonomy to "fix" things as I had done in previous roles. Joined GE Digital. Made the decision to leave a year later in most part due to extremely antiquated leadership in my group specifically. Instilling a culture of fear by design and being urged to do the same for my team made me realize that this company was stuck in past decades. Having people more talented and experienced than you reporting to you is a chance to excel, not a reason to micromanage. from the other coast. Let your people know some direction and let them figure it out. Make corrections as needed. Value your people, give them encouragement don't bully and belittle. Work to mentor, guide and acknowledge success in your team and they will perform miracles. Quash their spirit and they will perform only so much as to keep their jobs, nothing more. As potential customer, I wouldn't sign up based on the hype of Predix. The management team at GE Digital composed of old Silicon Valley laid-offs expired retreads mostly from Cisco who are absolutely clueless about software development or agile project management. There are no successful use cases to show the success of Predix in the real world environment outside of GE. Internal GE businesses who are testing the Predix cloud platform are always frustrated with the lack of knowledge in support operations. GE's IoT Predix is definitely not ready for prime-time as they continue to waste money on old retread laid-off IT people. I'm sure massive lay-offs will be coming soon in San Ramon because the Predix management is not delivering any REAL world success for the shareholders. There are many other IoT companies who can deliver the successful industrial internet to your company.

The company itself is amazing.  What a great experience to work for a company that is one of the top 10 in the world!  AMAZING pay, AMAZING benefits.  Unfortunately, the leadership is very much an 'old boys club' and if you're not high up on the chain in the club, you feel like an admin.  The decision to make gigantic cuts at the end of the year was not strategically done.  My role was specifically created to support the inside sales team in Chicago from an operational perspective.  Since I reported to someone else that supported worldwide infrastructure, I was cut, along with my boss and the rest of my team.  The company says they are focused on Digital Inside Sales.  I've never known a sales team to survive without sales operations support.  A joke.

The employees I worked with were great. The management all around was poor. They didn't understand software development or technology, so all they knew how to do was push harder and harder, until employees eventually broke. They offered no sort of guidance in your career. It was a bit of a sweat shop.

Human Resources at GE Digital New Orleans was the worst part of my experience. They didn't care about employees from a human perspective. You were just a liability to them. They were often not in the office. As I understand it, vacations were a priority. When they were in the office, they stayed in their office with the door closed and music playing. 

When employees quit, they gave no concern as to what would cause so many employees to leave in a short period. They didn't try to remedy the culture.

I've been at GE (in some capacity) for 11 years, and I'm still the new guy. That's because people stay with the company. It's definitely a company who invests into their employees through pay and benefits. Before coming here, I was used to being the rockstar on every team. GE surprised me by being a whole company of rockstars. I'm regularly impressed by colleagues. It makes you want to step up your game in a major way.

GE Digital has an extensive college recruiting program and brings a lot of new grads in for a two-year commitment for a rotation-based leadership program.  Good mix of new grads and experienced people - all ages.  When I started there, the atmosphere was very energetic. Open workbench arrangements encourage a lot of teamwork, pairing, an collaboration across teams.

Since they started restructuring, unpredictable outcome. Kinda depressing atmosphere. IIoT is still an important part of going forward.

There are a lot of great people working within GE, including individual managers. Unfortunately, with the constant re-organizations and lack of cohesive leadership direction, most of the company operates in small separate teams with differing objectives and incentives with little in the way of strategic planning at a higher level. This creates enormous inefficiencies and an atmosphere of chaos and confusion where little get's done well.

Had an internship with GE Digital through the Year Up program for 6 months, my experience was great get to meet and work with different people all around the globe. My job title was global asset management which gave me the opportunity to work with different people and not only did i try to connect and meet with people from different teams, they also wanted to get to know me and connect with me. sometimes had the option to work from home, my job didn't require me to be in the office all the time or i could go to a different GE location as well.
