I work at a Homeless Clinic in the basement of St. Joseph's Cathedral Basilica building. Half of our patients are Spanish speaking only and I work in close quarters with two other people on a constant basis. I've learned to work well with other people ranging from front office workers to back office workers and everyone in between. I have also trained all of these people too. Medical Assistants, Nurses, Doctors, Clerks, Medical Records Techs and even Clinic Coordinators. The hardest part of my job isn't the difficult patients, i have become used to the occasional mental health case. I am having a hard time with the salary that i am stuck at. There is no more room for growth in my company. I enjoy working with Doctors and Nurses and with my co-workers. It is great to have personal relationships with my co-workers and to be able to grow as a person with them.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The AOA program did offer a flexible schedule, with a hybrid model of wfh and being in the office. However, this all changed with the productivity demands as they blamed the new state medi-cal reimbursement changes. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There was not an official onboard training program. You really have to advocate with your supervisor about your needs.
And it’s very unfortunate that the company culture suddenly changed due to the productivity demands and shifting the blame towards the state medi-cal changes. Instead of supporting staff through this difficult and stressful time, they started to intensely micromanage and enforce higher productivity among direct line workers, which are mainly therapists.

I was working as a Triage Nurse, Advice Nurse, Case Management. Perform treatment and minor procedures assisting MD in clinic setting; Pediatric, Family Practice, Internal Medicine and OB-Gyne). Works collaboratively with MD in decision making and  plan of care. 

I was able to assess patient initially and refer them to MD for care.

I was able to manage performing triage, using good judgement, priorities patient care and  scheduling patient with MD. Also manage the nursing assistant that is working with me. 

I have to work collaboratively with the MD, nursing assistants for the benefit of the patient.

My day at work always starts with a very busy flow, but I am always able to work under any type of environment.

I have learned to always keep a smile and a great attitude towards stressful situations at work.

I am very proud to say that I have a great team at work and I am always willing to give them a helping hand as long as it is within my reach and professional skills.

The hardest part of my job is working with so many patients that lack housing and a lot financial struggles. I wish I had more in my power to advocate for them.

The most enjoyable part of my job is knowing that I have a really great support team and that if I ever find my self in need of help they are always willing to support me.

Gardner it’s a great place to start as a steeping stone in your career. It really builds a backbone to work under pressure and learn to manage stress. I have learned a lot working for them and had great experiences with colleagues and managers. However, the pay an work load is absolutely not worth the stress to stay there long term. Overall, happy with the experienced I gained. 

The onboarding was helpful but introduction into the department was chaotic. The switch to EPIC in the fall was difficult and staff appeared extremely stressed. The supervisor makes the most difference regarding pressure to achieve productivity and micromanaging. This was not an issue for me but it is an environment where an individual needs to take initiative and ask questions to learn. Overall a good experience and pay was competitive. 

For a community mental health agency, this place is really great. Hours a flexible(ish), management is very supportive with the right manager, coworkers are some of the best I’ve met, and pay is good compared to other companies. A lot of documentation, and high caseloads which is all very exhausting and can really take a toll on you. But that is expected with the shortage of mental health professionals. Overall, great company. 

This is a great place to gain experience. It's especially great if you want to work with lower income folks and do something that makes a difference. Great people that really care and many different programs that usually are in need of staff. Once you get past 6 months probation you have a strong union and a lot of support. 

Good support for new grads since you will be working alongside a team of experienced dentists who can mentor you if needed. There is no pressure to produce or push extensive treatment plans, so you can focus on building speed and efficiency. However, schedules can be unpredictable depending on how many patients decide to show up. Assistants can be hit-or-miss. Pay is generally below market with minimal raises each year.

This is a Non-Profit organization so you won't get much as in other companies.  It is an okay organization if you are a new grad and are looking for your first job experience.  They help out a lot in that area but for people with years of experience, it is probably not a good fit.
