My job role has been stocking the Copy Satellite Centers with paper, delivering jobs to the Attorneys, demonstrating my proficiency daily use of the firms applications, sending out email message informing staff and attorneys, updating them of their request routinely. Being extremley proactive to my peers and clients, also I have taken the initiative to continously gain knowledge in my department. I Consistently have taken on task with a sense of urgency daily, I am a self starter, that makes sounds judgements, and very dependable. My job request are completed timely, neatly, and accuratley. Our workloads may vary, however when the loads are extremely heavy, I handle my fair share of the production efficiently and effectively. My strongest asset is my dedication to my job. I take pride in my work and I value the firm commitment to excellence. I plan on keeping up my good work ethic and productivity.

I worked with 5 attorneys, One of them was a retired Associate Justice for the Appellate Court, District 3 for the State of California, and the other partner I worked with was at one time the Managing Partner.  

There were really no typical days, there were new deadlines every day.  I screened all calls for the two partners I worked for as well as calendar events.  I learned very early on to have excellent telephone skills and on my review every year it was mentioned.  I really enjoyed the camaraderie with both the staff and attorneys.  The most difficult aspect of the position was getting the attorneys to turn in their filings within the allotted time.  The most enjoyable thing for me was to mentor the new secretaries.

Worked at a call center, were attorneys and staff would call for help with their Word documents or email.  The calls were not limited to this and included request for assistance with other software and hardware issues.  There was also a high amount of remote access problems along with mobile phone issues and document retrieval/storage/corruption solutions.  Handling a project for document/email production while on the phones was normal, as well as guiding end user on working w/Work, Outlook or Excel.

This was a busy environment and 12+ hour days were average (for me).  The O/T pay was welcomed but after 18 months with only one weekend day off and no evenings (worked early afternoon to late mornings), it was time to look elsewhere.

Biglaw is tough, and GDC is no exception.  While some people are nice, it's very cut throat.  Associates will steal credit for your work and partners will blame you for their mistakes and the mistakes of other partners.  Members of the firm's administration will sometimes go out of their way to be disrespectful and at times harmful.  I've gone to partners and firm administration to discuss issues I've faced, and I'm either ignored or belittled.  This is the second big law firm I've worked for, and the culture is much more toxic than my former firm.  This is overall a challenging environment for team oriented lawyers.

The company provided departments to assist the secretaries and attorneys, including catering, records center, messengers, filing clerks, library, word processing center, copy assistance for big projects.  Office equipment was functional and conveniently located.  Overtime was often required, needed to be preapproved with supervisor which could be an inconvenient in a crunch situation.  Taxi vouchers were available for those who didn't drive their own car to work.  Co-workers were hardworking and friendly.  Company acknowledged secretaries day with donuts and major holiday there was normally a luncheon.  I would recommend this company. 

I worked at Gibson Dunn from mid-2008 to January 2012. The benefits package is unparalleled but you are working for every penny of it. Before I left I was assigned to 2 Partners and 3 Associates, one of the partners was so difficult almost all other secretaries at the firm refused to work for him (this was before the Me Too era). Very heavy work load given to secretarial staff. Partners will give work to secretaries instead of paralegals so as not to have to bill their clients. I decided to leave the firm shortly after this.  HR does not listen to support staff, they will throw money at their problems, but the problems still exist. 

I have had a positive experience working at Gibson Dunn. The Firm fosters a professional and collaborative environment, which makes it a great place to develop both personally and professionally. 

One of the aspects I appreciate most is the emphasis on teamwork and knowledge-sharing across different departments, which helps streamline processes and promotes continuous learning. Additionally, the firm offers a good work-life balance, with flexibility and understanding when personal matters arise.

Overall, Gibson is a solid choice for those looking for a stable, forward-thinking workplace with opportunities for development.

Lack of importance of staff is shown/exhibited (other than to certain assistant staff members assigned to upper level managers), causes rifts and dissention among most other staff. No feeling of confidence placed in staff members' skills, ideas or work. We're just there to make everyone else more money. Staff budgets are at the bottom of the financial books and not updated to keep up with the current economy.

Reviewed thousands of document images for relevancy, privacy, and other legal issues. Coded the findings in databases along with uploading document images to support the analysis.
Constant turnover of co-workers. Hardest part of the job was the transient nature of the team. Projects were always available but being selected to work on the next project was never a sure thing.
Most enjoyable part of the job was the subject matter of the litigation along with the governmental agencies that were ultimately going to review the work-product.

People coming to work here know what they're getting, and Gibson lives up in all counts. Everyone is brilliant and hard-working, from support staff to partners, and there's a friendly and supportive structure. Attorney pay is market rate in all offices, pro bono gets full credit, and the hours aren't all that bad in terms of amount. The unpredictability of the hours can make things rough, though, and takes a lot of getting used to.
