Grandmas House of Hope

I am very proud to work with an organization that does such important work in the community and is constantly seeking out opportunities to do even more. GHH focuses on meeting the essential needs for food and housing for the most disadvantaged members of our community. It is gratifying to be a part of an organization that helps people who have survived incredible trauma to receive the services and support they deserve to help them heal and rebuild their lives. I also really appreciate the dedication, tenacity, work ethic, intelligence and courage of GHH's CEO, leadership team, managers and direct service staff. They are an inspiring group to work with! 

One of the things that really distinguishes GHH is that it emphasizes employing people with lived experience. Starting with GHH's Founder and extending throughout the staff, many GHH team members draw upon their own experiences with homelessness, food insecurity, poverty and trauma in providing services, encouragement, mentoring, guidance and support to others who are struggling. 

There is always a lot of work to be done, but the work is incredibly gratifying. I have greatly enjoyed my work with GHH, and especially with GHH's CEO, for many years. I look forward to supporting GHH's mission for many more years to come.



Working at Grandma's House of Hope was a challenging experience due to significant issues with executive leadership, particularly with the Executive Director. The ED often demonstrated a lack of fairness and balance in decision-making, creating a toxic work environment. It was not uncommon to witness staff members in tears or struggling with stress due to poor management. The high turnover rate speaks volumes about the ongoing problems within the organization, as many talented staff members left because they felt undervalued and unsupported.

Compensation was below industry standards, especially considering the emotional toll and demanding nature of the work. Many employees felt underappreciated, and efforts to advocate for better conditions were often ignored or dismissed. There was a clear disconnect between the leadership and the needs of the staff, resulting in low morale across the board.

Overall, while the mission of Grandma’s House of Hope is commendable, the organization’s leadership needs to take a hard look at how they treat their employees. Until changes are made, the cycle of turnover and dissatisfaction will likely continue.



I previously sat on the board of Grandma's House of Hope while working for a big corporation and when the opportunity presented itself, I was eager to join the GHH family.  I have always respected the CEO and was impressed with her story and what it took for her to establish this organization.  She is always supportive and respectful to me as an employee, and I am honored to consider her my friend. GHH has a caring and compassionate way of supporting their staff and clients.  My experience with the GHH family has been rewarding and gratifying.  I work with some of the most considerate and sympathetic people I have ever met.  Working in a non-profit is so very different than my life in the corporate world. Being able to help clients graduate the program into their new home or providing a meal to families who have suffered during COIVD has brought me so much joy. The work is hard, with sometimes long hours, but is so very rewarding.

The best part of working for Grandma‘s House of Hope was learning from the CEO. Her tenacity and passion left me in awe every single day! Je’net Kreitner is such an extraordinary individual who tirelessly goes over and beyond to serve the invisible populations of Orange County. Je’net is a CEO who believes in her staff, she encourages promotion from within, training, and professional/personal growth. 

The staff at GHH are awesome as well! I truly enjoyed working with such good hearted individuals that sincerely wanted the best for the clients they served. 

If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding experience look no further than GHH! Do you enjoy problem solving, being resourceful, serving others, working on group projects, and taking ownership of your role? Then, you’ve found the right place. 

Terrible place to work, the CEO is a fake, lying, self serving, and is only there to make money for herself. She continually makes mistakes and then blames the staff or consultants, During the COVID crisis she was nowhere to be found, staff would ask questions and there wasn't anyone to answer them.  She treats staff and clients like they are second class citizens, she thinks she is thus great CEO and all the other non profits in the area make fun of her. The fact the board allows her to be this way says a lot abut the organization. There is no accountability for her or her consultants, whatever they say goes, even if it is a total lie. She lies to the board of directors and they just move on,

Getting to know the people your dealing with as well as for the counselors

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Following the guidelines of what needed to be done by the higher up, writing up clients who didn't follow rules

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Laid back, slow, stressful at times, fun sometimes

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Did a perimeter check, checked chore list, checked chores, got to know clients, distributed medication, talked with clients, checked rooms, write up when needed, drug/alcohol tested and cleaned up

GHH is an amazing program and gave me a lot of experience in working with folks experiencing homelessness. Everyone that works there has one goal in mind, to find those folks housing, and everyone there is on fire for it. My main issue/reasonings for leaving was mostly management and poor communication. There were some things happening there that I did not agree with (both on the housing side and the way the programs communicated). I loved what I did, but personally, I couldn’t work in such a confusing environment. 

It’s an honor to work at Grandma’s House of Hope. The founder has a great passion for this mission, to create this nonprofit from scratch to serve those most in need in our community. It’s a joy to work as as team with members who also share passion, talent and teamwork and are focused on the mission. There are many avenues to grow within the organization. As with most nonprofits, it’s hard work, and takes confidence, humility, teamwork and sense of purpose to succeed. Grandma’s House of Hope is an organization that truly makes a difference.

My co-workers at GHH were highly experienced, capable and dedicated. However, most of them have left the organization because the founder/executive director is extremely difficult to work for.

This company has grown significantly over the last 3 years and has experienced the expected growing pains. They care about the work and the people they serve and are working on staff culture in a deliberate and thoughtful way. Great place to work if you “show up” everyday.
