Work life - probably the only pro

Compensation - constantly bleeding good talent because they underpay experienced staff. It became an ongoing joke among the staff that they only offer real raises once you hand in your notice.

Benefits - nothing to write home about. I should mention that summer Fridays basically is just working longer on every other day, and they try to claw back CPA bonuses and testing materials costs if you leave.

Workplace Culture - At one time, there were a number of good supervisors/manager and experienced staff. Poor management and HR has pushed most of them out. Without those people, staff are usually left to tread water with minimal help from partners. Very typical to hear your coworkers complain about being responsible for engagements and having no idea what they're doing.

Management - people get in positions of (Location) Leaders who seem to have no interest at it whatsoever.  CEO will talk about how other companies admire them during the company events. Toxic departments staff get pep talks from HR. One department they ended up having to ask staff from another location to help out because they kept quitting.  

Grassi and Company was an incredible company to work for.
I learned how to multi task and take on new projects every single day. I had 3 computer screens to work off of to leave no stone unturned during the work day. I learned how tom have good work ethic and how to prioritize my work load according to importance. The firm was very large and there were several partners I was assisting as well as the administrative staff and tax department. The most enjoyable part of the job was that there was not one single moment where I was not busy, in fact I had no problem staying late to get the work done especially during Tax season which was extremely busy and challenging. There were great perks about the job as well, like employee trips and spending days in Manhattan doing charity work.

This place is good for junior level staff looking for some experience.  Once you're a senior level they expect you to take on the responsibility of a manager without the pay. Overall the work hours are decent compared to most other accounting firms.  Only 55hr required work week during busy season.  Not much career growth and guidance provided.  High turnover in tax and audit due to lack of guidance and management that teaches, grows and develops lower level staff.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Everyone is a family and team player.  Best place I ever worked for. My boss is the best!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No stress for me.  As long as I do my job and what need to be done, I fulfilled my teammate role.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Excellent, respectful,  acknowledgement and seeing each other as working together to fulfill the Grassi purpose 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Always busy, but there is time for a break which is important

A typical day is structured with routine tasks and deadlines. You learn time management and adaptability. Management is generally supportive but can improve communication. The culture is professional and collaborative. The hardest part is handling multiple priorities, while the most enjoyable part is gaining experience and working with a helpful team. Advice: improve coordination and workload balance

Grassi & Co. helped me learn how to become a professional. My first intern job made me ambitious to become a contributor to society in the future. I've learned how to work as a team player as well individually. Management was very helpful and guided me to reach my maximum potential. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to help other employees as well as clients. Although this is not the career path I'm looking for, it was an experience that taught me a lot and was something I will never forget.

I was in charge of reviewing, filing, and engaging files and documents.
The workplace was very professional and busy. There were always meetings going on and always heard people talking. I learned how to take on responsibilities head on and work hard. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and kind. Mostly older adults and some interns were young. Overall I had a great time working there.

Some days a pretty busy and the company tries its possible best to help new employees get settled and comfortable with a suitable work environment. Follow ups are done after  the first month and after 90 days in the company. the company provides a good working environment and the supervisors are always available to help as needed.

Every day, I learnt how to multi-task and take on new projects. I had three computer screens to work from so that I could cover every possible avenue during the workday. I learnt how to maintain a healthy work ethic and prioritize my workload based on importance. The firm was quite large, and I was aiding multiple partners, as well as the administrative staff and tax department.

Grassi is up to date on all of the latest accounting software, rules and regulations.

I learned how to use their software.

I learned about the latest changes to the accounting standards for the Not-For-Profit world and how to apply them when preparing financial statements.

The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing that I was helping out charities.
